ah, yes, that's the dude I've been thinking and forgetting everything about!

Ah, so...
If what I'm getting is right, we have the following people teaching in SD Scholarum:
1) Teana
2) Velen
3) 2 Oracles (one of whom is a crafter via craftbots and his feat, and as such also a teacher)
4) 2 Druid Treants
5) 1 Lotus Leshy
6) Sarah

We also have the following problems:
1) Avariel Hunter of 7th level that was there from the very beginning, with the other PoA teachers/crafters was completely forgotten about and we need the results from him.
2) Druid Treants don't give us any druids, despite OG's having made their 'generic' classes (like druid) more-or-less freely available.
3) Alas the Wisperer, level 7 Witch, isn't yet teaching although she's crafting via craftbot nowadays too, and should be moved to teaching.
4) the numbers of applicants/students are bjorked.

is that all?
:/

What I tried to convey with the minor action seen coming to fruition in this update was just that, but DP preferred to just rebuild the tower, instead of dropping some more facilities on the plaza-sized space directly around the tower which is already available :/

From what DP has implied in prose, the Shadow Tower was about two-thirds to one-half functional, or thereabouts, so our total possible local student population just increased by about one or two orders of magnitude.

And I imagine that other locations, based in large, palatial Manses, can house at least one hundred, maybe two hundred if you squeezed them in real tight. If we're assuming our current number deducts about a hundred which Horio has deferred to SD until he could get up and running, that means SD currently has a student population (not counting aspirants) of 400. I have no idea where aspirants fall, but he referenced facilities for people actively learning rather than merely catching up on their letters or attempting to awaken their sorcery. You only need part of the facilities for short amounts of time for the latter, and not at all for the former. So long-term occupation, we can assume he only meant students.

Now increasing the number of Aspirants doesn't greatly increase the logistical problems unless you outstrip the number of mundane tutors or spellcasting teachers/instructors to oversee the sometimes trial and error awakenings.

So we can assume that the Tower alone can accommodate 800 students, at minimum. I think 1,000 might be possible, if you spaced classes very efficiently and had enough instructors.

You start running into problems by trying to actively run an educational institution above that number out of one building, no matter how large. Foot traffic, fire hazards, and classroom sizes.

I also posit that we could theoretically accommodate that same number of aspirants in SD alone, who could first option SD Scholarum when a space opens up, or learn in a neighboring city.

So what are our short term practical limitations, is I think one question you asked? And what's more important, because we can always just expand later.

Minimum, 900 students, if we include Tyrosh. So we could take on nearly 400 more mages. That's 100 for Horio, on his own, to oversee, and 800 that the number of staff we currently have could probably keep up with. Hire three more teachers, and we could probably handle 200 in Tyrosh and 1,000 in SD, bringing that number up to 1,200.

If we're talking about maximum occupation capacity just from opening new outposts in different provinces, the ones in mind (Myr, Lys, Tolos, Mantarys, Naath), if we hired an additional thirteen teachers from what we have now, we could probably have as many as 2,200 students.

That's me spit balling numbers, though.

A complex occupying most of the excess free space in the Shadow Tower, going by my impression of how big it is, and how you could have multiple levels whilst conserving as much room as possible, SD's possible mage population making use of the facilities for both educational purposes and research, quickly climbs to probably a few thousand, to several thousand if they book labs and workshops in timeslots months ahead of time.

I think a lot of our mages, especially those who reach 5th level or higher, would make decent instructors for new Initiates and teaching assistants for the more advanced classes.

Agreed. Battle mages can hold combat classes at Level 5-6, for example, easily. They are quite good at that already by that point.

ENTIRELY CORRECT!
@Azel, @Snowfire, BOW BEFORE THE ULTIMATE PLAN!

[X] STEAL THE ENTIRE FUCKING RED KEEP. CAST FORBIDDANCE TO KILL EVERYONE INSIDE, THEN USE SOTD TO REMOVE THE FOUNDATIONS AND SIMPLY CARRY IT AWAY (UNDER FULL BUFFS). REZZ THE CAT AND THE CHILD WHEN WE GET TO SD.
I both love this plan and want it to happen, preferrably when we can blame it on Varys. Just skip Forbiddance - we take the red keep, clear it out for the xp, and make it a floating fortress.

[X] Plan neat and clean.
This plan has the least chance of exposing our capabilities. I want this mission to go off without a hitch.

So, I was (and am) busy these days... So what the fuck is going on?
Just another contentious vote.

Ok, so, I'm going to give this a shot, because I've realised that if I don't, I may well be done for good and I'd really prefer not to be. I've changed my vote to that of @Sqweaktoy in a likely vain attempt that might go through, now I feel I have no choice but to address why.

Simply put, if we go through with this, this is the point at which we should lose any right to remaining Lawful Neutral. This is the point at which we stop having any claim, whatsoever, to being better than the Lannisters. Because we will have willfully, personally inflicted pain and possibly crippling permanent trauma on a child younger than our niece, for no other reason than fleeting political gain.

Age matters in this, first on a personal level for no reason that's truly logical, because there is an overwhelming drive in the society I've grown up in that children are precious. They are to be protected. If pain is inflicted on them, you help them heal. We are betraying that.

Second, on a character level; for all his flaws, Viserys isn't evil. He cares for people, for the harm he inflicts, and he accepts (or has up to this point) that there are some lines that are too far to cross. That's part of being Lawful Neutral. What Tywin allowed to happen to our goodsister, niece and nephew was one such line. We're about to abandon it for political gain.

Just like Tywin did. Someone Viserys hates for doing it.

@Azel you went on a lot a few days ago about consequences. Have you even considered the ones for this? The ones we will pay, on a personal level, for having just effectively said by our actions that all the pain our goodsister and her children suffered was ok, because it helped solidify a political position. Because that's what you're arguing. A total betrayal of what has long been one of the most positive and interesting traits in Viserys as a character.

Third, and perhaps finally, there is absolutely no reason to do this. At all. We could implicate our target here in any of a thousand ways, easier ways, less magically taxing ways, and ones that wouldn't effectively make the torture of children presented as totally ok so long as it gains us some nebulous political advantage. Just put her to sleep and give her a memory of having played with the cat then having a nap. It gets her out of our way and costs us nothing.

Something I wrote in one of the latest HT chapters is coming back to me here, and I feel it lies at the heart of the rift that's been present on this thread since pretty much forever. The point at which a child is an opportunity instead of a child is the point at which you become a monster.

I'm not saying that those voting for Azel's plan are monsters. @Azel I'm not meaning to call you one either. But this plan is wrong. Even for Viserys as he is now.

For the love of god, can you just compromise with me here? Please. I don't want to never be able to come back to this thread again without feeling sick about what it looks like we're about to do, from the current vote tally.

That's my piece. Goodnight.

Political justifications are sometimes simply that. Untrue-ish, but for a good purpose.

...well at least with all this salt I can finally clearly the driveway. Also fuck Canada with its bullshit winters and fuck my university for its shitty weather watch bullshit.

Just put the girl to sleep and we can kill Stannis. He isn't worth it

@Snowfire has a point, y'all. Personally, I don't have an issue with mind whammying Myrcella, but doing this would be quite contrary to Viserys' character. It's too much of a radical departure from what he would deem acceptable, IMO.

As I've said before, we don't always get to do exactly what we want simply because it doesn't fit with an action the character as we've developed them would undertake.

I mean strategically though not doing it means most likely going to war with stains and killing tens of thousands making many many orphans and making quite a few kids have nightmares. Also greatly leading towards a weaker force against the others.

You know. Maybe this is the cold. Maybe this is me being salty. Maybe I am just tired. Maybe I am pissed that a fucking 3 year old is what it took for this to happen. Frankly I am done. I need a day. So till further ado.

[X] Purchase a Solid Cloud through our new alliance, and place the detached keep upon it by moving the cloud underneath the castle, replacing the destroyed foundation with it at the same moment with Wish.
[X] Move the castle away (air elementals or levitate or...something?)
[X] Blame an 'infestation of demons' for why you have to take the whole castle. Make it really obvious it's us.

TLDR this is a super bad thing to do and we shouldn't do it.

Edit:
Also to those who believe mind whamming her and involving her in this kind of political scheme...

Thats simply not true. Shes going to be mentally and emotionally fucked up by that, even assuming Varys isn't vengeful enough to kidnap her and "interrogate" her.

Especially when he has a demonstrated preference for maiming orphans.

You realize this is a nightmare at worst she will almost definitely forget it in a year or two she's three.

[X] Plan neat and clean

Reasonable enough. @Snowfire that said, we should probably grab a few hairs-it isn't putting her in danger and it gives us a chance for further options, including maybe saving her life further down the road.

EDIT: More than anything else, the thing that's been bugging me is the necessity of the situation. We don't need to do this. It's not the most critical thing to our plans ever. We can work out some way of implicating Varys/Stannish/whoeverthefuck down the line without intentionally ruining some kids day. Maybe that's hypocritical based on all of our previous choices objectively looked at, but Viserys isn't an objective person.

Kid's probably the same age Dany was when we started this mess. Just because we've compromised morals in the past doesn't mean we can't try to take the high road here. No reason we can't save the kid & still get away with our subversion of Kings Landing, and you can't honestly argue that this act will cost lives because we can't know that.
