Prestidigitation.

Poor DP, how to write slice of life when everything has been fixed by magic.
Neither Waymar or Tyene know that spell and they won't be getting slotless Prestidigitation Rings until the end of the 8th month.

And it could just be a routine that Waymar learned as part of his martial training. I wouldn't be surprised if he partially disassembles his armor on a semi-regular basis to check for damage, worn straps, etc.

We kept planning to build one put together of a normal printing press and Amanuensis to automatically ink it and make sure the prints come out in a good quality.

Though we for some reason never actually built the things.

What about a stone shape enchantment for images to be printed onto pages? Think that would have high enough quality? Hinges seem to be tricky, but maybe that's just a moving parts issue? *Wishful thinking*

...Azel can you answer me a question? If we were to use this and spread our ideas through it. How many could it reach in, say two months? Like if we were to paint a fanciful take about our adventures as propoganda how long would it take to hit every major city in Westeros if we started in Kings Landing?

Amanuensis Printing Presses have now been added to the crafting schedule. 24 of them.
An Amanuensis item, presumably some sort of device in which we place a master document, then activate the spell to make duplicates, would cost 90 IM. Each would operate for 10 minutes per activation, copying 250 words per minute. That's not super fast, but it's super easy and incredibly cheap. There would be no need to create printing plates (not quite a new industry, but an entirely new aspect of an already rare skill, if high level magic is not used) or produce large amounts of relatively high quality ink (an industry we would have to invent in its entirety).

Just 24 of the printing presses could together copy 60,000 words per 10 minutes. That's sixty 1,000 word broadsheets per 10 minutes, 360 per hour, and 8,640 per day. Realistically, that's more broadsheets than we actually need. Purchasing or creating enough paper to keep up with that output would be the largest logistical hurdle to overcome.

It could be done in days. With Teleportation magic and the use of Lesser False Ravens, of which we now have several hundred, every community on the continent could have high quality printed broadsheets delivered to them within a week.

EDIT: The single greatest hurdle to overcome would be the need for paper on which to print our broadsheets.

The issue I have with your version is that they print so damn slow and can't do any images, making them all but worthless for propaganda efforts when so few people can actually read.

My idea was to use movable letters and carved picture blocks, then use Amanuensis just for inking and making sure the print quality is good.

Hmm should we use the same setup as the Dawn fruit trees to grow trees for paper then? I imagine that would do something.

Okay speaking of ideas and religion I am curious about this. Do we have a printing press or the magical equivalent?
Behold:

Amanuensis
You point at the writing and then move your hand as though holding a stylus or quill. As you intone the spell, the script appears on a sheet of paper close at hand.

You cause writing from one source (such as a book) to be copied into a book, paper, or parchment. This spell copies 250 words per minute and creates a perfect duplicate of the original. The spell copies only nonmagical text, not illustrations or magical writings (such as the text of a spellbook, a spell scroll, or a sepia snake sigil). If the target contains normal and magical writing (such as a letter with explosive runes), only the normal text is copied, leaving blank space in the copied text where the magical writing would be expected. Likewise, if the target contains text and illustration, only the text is copied.

The spell triggers (but does not copy) writing-based magic traps in the material being copied.

Blank paper, parchment, or a book must be provided for the spell to write upon. If the target has multiple pages, the spell automatically turns to the next blank page whenever necessary. If more pages in the target exist than blank pages are available, the spell copies the original until it runs out of
blank pages. At any time during the spell's duration you can redirect the magic to copy from another target, copy onto a different blank source, or resume a duplication that was interrupted by a shortfall of blank pages.

The spell does not translate the copied writing. If you do not understand the original, you have no additional ability to understand the copy.
Our magelings make a bit of cash on the side by doing this.

An item of Instant Portrait would cost 180 IM and be able to function every 6 seconds.

We could kitbash the two effects, Amanuensis and Instant Portrait, into a single item to create true copies of a master document. It would cost 315 IM each.

EDIT: Updating the schedule to include these devices.

Thing is, I don't think paper is a thing we know about yet. Everyone is using parchment.

@Goldfish, could you take out the printing presses again? I would rather wait a month more to get something that can print pictures and I'm not seeing paper supply coming forth.

Yi-Ti should have paper though, which we can nick from them, and they should have at least basic printing presses for their money.

Alright, that addresses my issue with the pictures. Still though, paper.

Reducing the initial order from 24 to 5 for now. That should give us something to work with and will prepare the way for a larger production run when paper becomes widely available.

They are in Kings Landing correct? Also +25? Jesus can we get one of those now?

To be fair, once you hit level 5 you're already rocking a +9 just off of skill ranks, and a solid amount of the bonus is innate to the class. The math is something like

9 (skill ranks) + 5 (Alchemist Class Level Bonus*) + 4 (Intelligence Bonus, Elite Array, 15 base, +2 Racial Bonus, +1 from level 4, total 18) + 2 (Racial Bonus To Craft: Alchemy) + 3 (Skill Focus: Alchemy) = +23

Slap on one of those Feats that add +2 to two different Skills and you're at +25. If you're using the much better Pathfinder versions of the Feats, once you hit level 10 you're likely rocking a +43 while only accounting for an Intelligence +5 Enhancement item and no spells. Considering the buffs and numbers we're throwing around at the mid to high teens...

Suffice to say, Alchemists are going to be big money makers for us even if we only use a basic unspecced human's score of +17 at level 5.

*Alchemists as a class feature get their class level as a bonus to Alchemy checks.

We've had more than enough proof that they are intolerant as far as I'm concerned, what happened to the Old Gods and Weirwoods alone should be enough to prove that.

An event that happened hundreds to thousands of years ago, and has since not seen further direct persecution. The Faith are willing to tolerate other religions, the initial conflicts were "foreign invader come to subjugate these new lands" not "Deus Vult!" Now that their winning conquerering people are in charge, they won't want to not be at the top of the food chain, but they're willing to tolerate a Red Priest in the King's Court and the North worshiping the Old Gods at a rate of 99.99% faithfulness.

Did I forget to say that all Alchemists at level 3 create Alchemical Items in half the time as a Class Feature?

Did I also forget that level 18 Alchemists can make any Alchemical Item as a Full Round Actions as a Class Feature?

I think I forgot to mention those two oh so profitable details.

Unfortunately, we aren't using the Pathfinder versions of those feats.

And we won't see a significant improvement in Alchemy crafting capacity outside of the industrial facilities until we have several hundred trained Alchemists. It will be very rare for any of them to exceed 5th level, so that further limits their potential production.

Up until now, our Alchemy crafting has come from using Mercy and Valeria. They've been spamming Unseen Crafter spells, with further bonuses from statues that provide a +10 to crafting, effectively doing the work of hundreds of Alchemists. This has only worked because DP has been very generous.

Do you see them being at the top of the food chain?

It is also not an accident the North is basically divorced from court with stark (heh) cultural lines drawn between Northern and Southrons, the concept of chivalry is more directly cited but that is a subset of the FotS itself.

When we're done with them, no. But you're ignoring the bit where I emphasized the ability of the Faith to have tolerant relations with other religions, even religions that hold an overwhelming majority with a signficant population in the same realm, even religions that place themselves next to the King to accrue political influence.

The circumstances aren't the same here, but it's much less absolute than you're depicting.

I would love to continue this, but I need to wake for work in 6 hours and have a cat to cuddle with. Good night.

I don't believe I did ignore the point however sleep is a rare commodity, ignore me and take care of yourself :p

As the whole war between the Faith Militant and House Targaryen showed, it was the pen stroke which killed the Faith Militant, and not the sword. Maegor violently persecuted the Faith which led to nowhere throughout his entire live, while Jahaerys ended them in a single pen stroke while also enshrining the King on the Iron into the Faith as the "Protector of the Faith", and making it one of the King's official titles.
And how did Jahaerys do that, what was his starting point?
He gave out pardons to the often broken and mostly leaderless remains of the Faith Militant.

He was graceful in victory when he made his peace, which is utterly different to trying to work with an intact enemy.

If we want to be Jahaerys we need our Maegor. Someone has to humble the Faith, to bring it to their knees, before we can even consider helping it back up.
And if nobody else does it, we will have to do both.

Our best bet is propably if the unrest in Westeros causes the reformation of the Faith Militant without Viserys being the cause, then we would have good reasons to oppose that illegal organisation once we can. Maybe if we can do some subtle work on the Oldtown cconclave that might be possible.

Are you suggesting a Westeros version of the Protestant catholic war? It would certainly weaken the faith, to be sure. It would also weaken everyone who gets involved. Maybe that's how we start our invasion

Well, Blood raven is already trying to make a schism happen actively though I honestly think that a schism is well overdue considering the return of magic anyways.

Does anyone remeber when the Oldtown Conclave/Council is happening?

Next month. We plan on visiting it and causing a general ruckus I believe. What the actual game plan is is unknown but the idea is to lay the foundation for either a reformation or a Protestant church. Either way the faith is in for some interesting times. Also willing to bet that this will be an event watched by the Seven.
