[X] Candidate 3: Genevieve Talonuelli
And the QM has also pointed out that she's a diplomatic mine field:The third candidate is somewhat unusual in that neither she nor her family sent in an offer to marry her. And yet, your advisors have insisted that she be considered an option.
Heck there could be repercussions just from us asking for her hand even if the father says no.. Of course, this is easier said than done. The Duke is notoriously protective of her, having practically locked her inside his personal residence for most of her life, leading to her developing a love of academics and the arts. To refuse a daughter's marriage to a king would be unthinkable…but Duke Talonuelli might just decide to do so. And of course, there's Aquileia to worry about. If King Brochard sees you trying to wed Genevieve he will likely see it as a plot to annex the land separating your borders. If he overreacts things could get ugly fast.
Don't want to rain on people's parade... but a random, attractive female gryph out of nowhere with no name that seems unusually interesting and engaging and seemingly knew exactly how to catch and hold our attention? Dollars to donuts she's a Changeling.
Well... while I personally have nothing against Changelings, the only reason they'd target a king is to control him and become the power-behind-the-throne using mind-control magic, which would actually be quite a coup for them, as it means they'd have at least a generation to fully infiltrate our kingdom and bleed it dry of anything shiny and/or useful. If they're lucky, they could remain in power for decades, if not centuries, but yeah, for us that'd be a problem. The only hive we see in canon belongs to Chrysalis, and her hive? They don't want to negotiate, they don't want to co-exist, they don't even want to rule, they want to dominate. They want to take and take until nothing is left and then move on to the next host like a swarm of parasites....Go oooonnn. Cause it almost seems like your saying that's a bad thing.
...Go oooonnn. Cause it almost seems like your saying that's a bad thing.
If that's the case I want to guess at three potential outcomes:ON THE OTHER CLAW! If this was an option I'd vote for marrying a Changeling Queen. No favouritism here, nopeerino.
Also pointing out that if I were a Changeling Queen, trying to set a Valuable Target up with an infiltrator of the gender they prefer is the absolute last thing I'd do, instead I'd pair them with a bug that has absolutely no way of becoming interested in them, and that they themselves would not be interested in if their true form were ever revealed*. And I'd do that specifically to avoid the possibility of divided loyalties, and infiltrators falling in love with their targets (or at least sympathizing enough that they become compromised). That old literary trope is as old as dirt, and only a fool, or someone exceptionally confident, would ignore it.It wouldn't be but there is an incredible high chance that if she were a changeling then she would be serving someone else; I.e. a changling Queen.
Meaning her loyalties would be split, and that she would most likely side with her people over Garrick.
Don't write my omake again! And considering that she 'hid' as a mercenary for years and our past as a merchant needing guards + backstory:
It would be incredibly amusing that it turns out we actually hired the mercenary company she was part of at some point.
Cue facepalm (and laughs from her) as we make the connection between the mud-coated fight-happy swordswoman that guarded us through troll country and our bride-to-be.
Doesn't Wingbardy not have much in the way of an army? That's half the reason we did/could do the latest diplomacy action in the first place.I like this option because it gives us more potential manpower(Griffonpower?) And more Projected power.
They have about half of our or Aquilea's numbers.Doesn't Wingbardy not have much in the way of an army? That's half the reason we did/could do the latest diplomacy action in the first place.
Relax, this one's all yours.
It seems I don't have the time.Gabriella wins. I'll start writing an interlude, then start work on the rumor mill and next turn.
