Yeah, I'm not terribly interested in using that ritual, either. @DragonParadox Can Dany try again? We have five days allotted for Chains that Bind and she's only used three of them.
@DragonParadox Any powerful Leylines passing through?

Would creating a dedicated ritual chamber should help?

Second of all..... This ritual is too dangerous, and difficult. It needs work. Shuffle time around or put it back on the docket next turn.
Seconded. @DragonParadox, I'm really not comfortable with that ritual as is.

True Death is simply too great a penalty to risk for me considering how hard it was to get all the Erinyes in the first place.

Can Dany try to improve it?
So looking at it, it appears she can get +3 from a Circlet, +2 from Aid Another, for a total of 21.

Depending on if we can create an item to help, a +5 Competence bonus for example would bring that up to 26, requiring rolls of 4 or higher for success. That is a very good margin for success.

If not the odds are more like a 60% chances of success... for each roll.
... Yeah. I don't like the odds of this ritual.

Occult ritual rules have strict limits for this apparently. Aid another grants a +1 bonus to the checks per four secondary casters. There's only about 9 secondary casters involved, so the person making the checks (the primary caster) can only benefit from +2 from aid another.
Then I'm thinking we should design a better ritual. Dany has access to moment of prescience through a template 3/day. That should result in a tremendously improved ritual. We can fluff it as a single Divine insight leading her to the books she needs or something.

4 or higher... on 5 rolls.

With the alternative being true death. Mmph

We could have them hit the books as well.

Edit: If Leylines get O.k.ed we can push it through to 100% with a powerful enough one.

This is definitely not safe enough for the scale we plan on using it however.

It is a good start. Especially given how unprecedented this whole... thing is.

Considering she threw the first one together in a few days, I sincerely doubt she wasn't already using magic to help her acuity.

@Everyone I have adjusted the schedule so that Viserys, Richard, and Lya can all work on the cloak during the 11th, 12th, and 13th of the month, right before the Conference.

This shortens the Upon a Sea of Flame action to five days, but there's no way to avoid that now. The cloak is too powerful, and too potent a symbol to the attendees of the Conference, for us to delay it.

I don't think study would grant bonuses to this. The only thing that might help would be long, long hours of meditation. Which should only really grant a minor bonus in the end.

Tapping into Ley Lines

A primary ritual caster with the ability to cast spells or use spell-like abilities can tap into a ley line within 30 feet by performing a simple ritual that takes 1 hour per 2 caster levels of the ley line. At the end of the ritual, the primary caster must succeed at a Spellcraft check (DC = 15 + the ley line's caster level) to attune herself with the ley line. If she fails, she can try the attunement ritual anew. On a successful check, the primary caster and any secondary casters gain a +1 bonus on skill checks to cast an occult ritual using the ley line, provided they remain within 30 feet of the ley line. This bonus increases by 1 for every 5 caster levels of the ley line, to a maximum of +5.
This form of attunement can be broken in the standard ways described in Using Ley Lines.

And they have 0 spell craft. Lovely.

@Goldfish @Duesal Honestly rather than making another ritual, trying to find ways to get circumstantial bonuses might be better.
Honestly I'd just like to find a way to get rid of that True Death penalty. Anything less than that we can bring the Erinyes back from. True Death? Nope. Way beyond us.

100% behind this, the cloak needs to be crafted before the conference. I'm looking forward to seeing its forging in person, @DragonParadox! :D

Yeah, but was she using enough magic? We have other casters in SD who could take a few seconds of their time to further enhance her efforts with various buffs, plus there is the Philosopher's Tree, too.

Divine Insight (+15), Surge of Fortune (+20), Grand Destiny (+4), Heroism + Moment of Greatness (+4), Visualization of the Mind (+5), Tears to Wine (+15)

That's +63 to whatever check she needed to devise the ritual, and that's just off the top of my head.

Unprecedented magic, planar fuckery, divine secrets fuckery, whatever nightmarish machinations Asmodeus built into the pact primeval, ritual magic, did it in 3 days, bad dice roll.

In the realm we are operating yes, I can see that failing.

It wasn't mentioned in the narrative though, and I don't think we've ever seen her use the template on screen. If she had the buff already, fine. But if not, I'd like to draw @DragonParadox's attention to that fact.

Also, since aid another is always DC 10, we could simply have students from the scholarum assist as part of their studies on the nature of the planes. Library bonus +int gives pretty good odds for +2 for each one, even if they are untrained.

I need to do some bookkeeping in the evening to assess our funds.

Would be great if you guys don't spend until then.

@Crake @DragonParadox, could any of our Smoke Extracts be used to help here? I remember ideas of alchemical bonuses being used to help in rituals.
Smoke Extracts (Require Hookah to use):

Hannann

This yellowish tobacco has a sweet taste and odor to it. A character smoking Hannan experiences hallucinations, gaining a +2 alchemical bonus to Intelligence and Charisma for 1d2 hours but takes a –2 penalty to Strength and Wisdom for the duration.

Cost per dose: 10 Gold

Jena

This brownish tobacco has a slightly bitter taste and odor. A character smoking it feels a rush of energy and vitality spread throughout their body. For the next 1d4 hours, the character enjoys a +2 alchemical bonus to Dexterity and on all Initiative checks, but takes a –2 penalty to Wisdom for the duration.

Cost per dose: 14 Gold

Najala

This dark brownish-black tobacco is mild in taste and smells like hot metal. Smoking najala grants the character a +2 alchemical bonus to Strength for 1d4 hours and a –2 penalty to Constitution for the same duration.

Cost per dose: 7 Gold

Shun

This orange-brown tobacco has a sweet taste and fragrant odor and is a potent hallucinogen. A character smoking it gains a +2 alchemical bonus to Wisdom for 1d4 hours but takes a –4 penalty on saves against mind-affecting effects for the same duration.

Cost per dose: 1.3 Gold

I can't, not really. A +63 is a larger skill bonus than some God's. This is by no means a task beyond a good.

Edit: why are we rolling for this anyway? Dany should be able to take 10 just fine.

By this point Viserys now has a memetic reputation for being a badass. No one does the stupid and tries to attack him unless they're an Outsider and thus underestimating of mortals in general, some kind of monster of some variety, hasn't ever heard of him, or is doing it oblique and indirectly with near to no hope of tracing it back to them, and if they're competent, no chance at all of tracing it back to their current location, which is usually changing (if they're smart).

> Took out Mammon's aspect like a punk
> Devils in Dis spend their time making "who would win" whatif scenarios about him and whichever warlord they despise/respect

Let's get this show on the road. I've specifically added searching for Scribe's Binding to the plan. Are there any other must have spells we need? Keep in mind that we currently have several dozen spell scrolls we haven't had a chance for Lya to learn yet.

[X] Plan "We are never taking this crown off again!" or "Why everyone who regularly uses Divination to check in on Viserys suddenly became very worried."
-[X] The ritual to free the Erinyes of their connection to Hell is no small undertaking, and the danger to the Furies is considerable. We will to return to this issue at a later date (before the end of the month), but in the meantime, ask Dany to attempt to further refine the ritual if at all possible, using the full weight of the resources available to her (allied casters, Philospher's Tree, library, assistants, etc).
-[X] In Armun Kelisk, first;
--[X] Recover your crown
---[X] Speak to the enchanter about further commissions and ask if he has any completed items we might be interested in purchasing while.
--[X] Then find the sell-spells you hired
---[X] Explain to them that they will be among the first of their kind in untold centuries to venture to the fabled Plane of Balance, where all four elements exist in harmony.
--[X] And then visit the markets to trade, selling 100,000 IM in rare trade goods we brought with us (for a profit of at least 200,000 IM, if possible), while purchasing 100,000 IM worth of crafting and ritual reagents.
---[X] Check with the book and scroll vendor to see if a copies of Scribe's Binding, Cyclic Reincarnation, Greater Planar Binding, Planar Binding, Old Salt's Curse, Nature's Exile, Curse of Befouled Fortune, Curse of the Dragonflies, Curse of Disgust, Black Spot, Mark of Blood, Sun's Disdain, Lipstitch, Spellblight Jinx, Eldritch Fever, or Wall of Eyes have become available since our last visit.
---[X] Send Vee and Waymar off to check into the availability of skilled animal handlers capable of training winged mounts such as Hippogriffs. While they are gone, ask them to look into acquiring the services of anymore Air-Infused Griffons, and how many Hippogriffs might be available for purchase, and at what price.
