"You should help where you can" implies future actions that'll tie Mathilde up.It's not one of the three actions. It's a free choice to decide what Mathilde thinks of his plan.

Isn't that itself an argument that his plan will get many people killed for nothing?Well, actually, yeah, policing an army is frikkin' hard. Like, in most armies throughout history, and even to an extent today, it's simply an accepted fact that once the battle is over, the looting begins.
What's more likely, that the people of stirland are somehow all of pure intention and reason, or that the man chosen as a leader by a force composed of Stirland's most neo-phobic people is biased.I guess I'm actually a bit surprised that so many of the Stirlanders and Sylvanians are actually loyal and responsible, just seeking a way to attain some land and settle down. I was under the impression that most were irate deserters.
Not really, no. The army is going to loot, but if most of the Stirlanders and Sylvanians do indeed have more reasonable aspirations, then it's probable that they can be satisfied by only picking over greenskin and skaven corpses and camps, rather than, "well, that ancestral dwarfish statue is technically on the battlefield - hey, Johann, I think this filigree is gold, get me a chisel!"Isn't that itself an argument that his plan will get many people killed for nothing?
Uh, no, those are the vagabonds, adventurers and mercenaries. They could readily be hired onto most state armies, but you're looking at a list of people with chronic disciplinary problems, criminal records, deserters or simply thrillseekers.Still there is the argument that if they could be seasoned with a bit of hard campaigning outside the command of someone that will never see them as truly his own, they could be whipped into shape. Well either that, or try desertion in the Badlands on for size.
Which, again, relies on him having accurately judged the morality of 10000 people who he has a clear set of reasons to be biased toward.if most of the Stirlanders and Sylvanians do indeed have more reasonable aspirations,.

Well...that IS good strategy as long as the rabble has something more solid in the backline. There may be actions you can take if you choose to lean one way or the other, but you won't necessarily have to take those actions. It will also change whether you nod along, remain silent or object when it comes time to plan open field battles and he starts putting the rabble in the danger zone.
Why? He's a random Stirlander elected because he's a better shot and led a militia for a bit. What about that gives him the insight to understand that 6000 people (a group which miraculously includes almost none of the people he's friends with) are uniformly worthy of death? On the flip side, he is, by far, the most qualified person to judge them.
It's better than nothing. You don't think he's up to the job, vote to help him out, double-check his work.Which, again, relies on him having accurately judged the morality of 10000 people who he has a clear set of reasons to be biased toward.
