better question @BoneyM Does Mat belive that since the ring was made by Masters, that by studing it she might advance her own understanding of enchantment, or is the magic nature clash (Light/Shadow) too much for it to be useful as a teaching aid, as she tries to master enchantment?

You could, vote for it as one line: [*] two revolvers or [*] revolver and blunderbuss for example.

Changing again. Want that.
Blundebuss for stopping power, revolver for enemies not worth a spell on.

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm thinking we should keep the ring. We got that ring because of Ranald's blessing and it's hardly in his strictures to return what isn't yours. He might be annoyed if we returned it, in fact.
Well I doubt he'd be too annoyed if we proceed to steal an enemy god's shrine for him the same time, he's a pretty chillax god as such things go.

That said, it IS a powerful enchanted item that we probably want to study for ideas later.

@BoneyM
Questions:
I take it she hasn't taken us up on our offer of correspondence?

Her silence is a pretty clear answer.

Any news on what's she's planning on doing to the newly liberated lands of Drakenhof and the Haunted Hills? Count's demesne or new/expanded vassals?

She's desperate for money to refill the treasury, and seems likely to create new counties or baronies to sell off.

Unrelated:
Have we heard of any tidings from Gabriella? (That vampire noble lady)

Her name was on the list you gave your Master, and as such you were unsurprised that she up and disappeared. Succession is for Roswita to decide.

@BoneyM is Haunted Hills land for sale? Can we invite the dwarfs to prospect it and how much would it cost? The goal is to buy out the best mineral spots for EIC.

[X] Melt down the idol, cast it into a new one to Ranald, call in your priest friends to re-sanctify the room. (bonus to rolls and reduced cost to creating a second shrine to Ranald, either in your Estate or elsewhere, +1 room, ???)

[X] Keep it.

[X] 2 Dwarven Revolvers, 250 gc.

Having a revolver is neat. Having two revolvers is badass.

If it was of Ulgu it might help her reach the highest levels of enchantment once she knew a lot more, but as it's of Aqshy it's no good as a study aid.

We can always sell these later if we need to.

It's not currently on the market, but likely will be soon, one way or another. You could spend four favours to do a surface survey of the entire Hills, though it'd only catch the very obvious stuff - it's a massive amount of land to cover.

As I understand it, Marksdwarf's pistol is a smooth-bore, but very well-designed and well-crafted, whiled dwarven pistol is some kind of rifled handgun. Is that right, @BoneyM? How much more accurate is Marksdwarf one? I would honestly expect better accuracy (and superior range) from a rifled design.

Alas, but with half the council resigning she doesn't really have much choice.

The army is decimated, she kept the spy network(whatever she could trust of it), but basically half the treasury is invested into the EIC, which is now owned by former councilors and Anton's brand of diplomacy is...very much personal friendship based, so all his contacts are gone with him.
Oh and we kind of dunked the Watch's budget by signing the entire intelligence network over to it before we left.

Selling off the hills for money means she can focus on restoring the army and going over the network. A spy network built by a spymaster you fired usually isn't very trusted, especially not when a big chunk of it was based off her personal relationships.

But that borrows trouble for her heirs of course. Thats enough prime grazeland to create some really powerful counties and support I think, 3-4 fair sized towns if she doesn't pare them small enough.

We've got plenty of money, no need to sell.

Let's not do any ocean travel for a while.

Awesome magic ring. But we can get a mystery box in return!

Well we're not going to be investing in mining anytime soon, so time to gun up. In an unrelated note we should probably grab some alcohol while we're in the dwarf hold.

Okay, so it's pretty much a given that Roswita is the Witch Hunters' bitch and is happily dancing on their leash, the new Spymaster is a Witch Hunter and the Watch is being taught how to identify illicit magic-users. Time to get the fuck out of Stirland, pass our Magister exams and develop our powers and contacts. While we do this keep in touch with Julia and wait for Roswita to fuck up Stirland enough with her fellow Sigmar-spouting pyromaniacs to the point where we can blow the whistle on her shenanigans to leave her censured at the least.

Keyword is illicit. She might put more trust in the Templar institution than VH, but she's not a puppet. Still, we better pass our exams soon.

Ah... part of me that's an avid lore reader wishes that we can always stay informed on the going-about of Stirland simply because I love reading your work, but oh well, hopefully we'll set out for the magister exam and find out what happened to the haunted hills, Drakfel bridge, and draknhof later.

Well, our master said that most of the names on the list would be dead, I wanted to know if Gabriella was one of them. Seeing how no body was found, I wonder if she still has protection in the Empire.

I think we should contact some of our College friends and ask for books on enchanting. Should make it easier to learn.

Probably won't go super wrong! Really though, it's either this or bricking the room up.

[X] Keep it.

Is a useful weapon and can be studied for enchantment knowldege. Plus, we can give it away later if we want to. Very lucky to find this.

[X] Dwarven Revolver, 125 gc.

All our shots are magical, making more shots just better for us than additional accuracy or greater firepower.

That point decided tyhe ring for me.

Marksdwarf is rifled too, and basically pinpoint accurate. Handgun is 'accurate' to being able to hit a torso at a hundred paces.

To be fair, colonisation isn't an easy thing to do, so it probably won't be a problem within our lifetimes. Still, it'll be interesting how it goes, Wilhelmia is still the Steward after all, so I doubt she'd set up Roswita to outright failure.

So it is a question of accuracy versus damage with comparable range?

Another question - is there some kind of law that requires us to return Doomfire ring to Colleges (or found magical items in general)? Will we get in trouble for keeping it if it is discovered, or is it "finders-keepers"?

Pretty wary of the Stromfels options but in general I'd prefer to try to get rid of it and risk unwanted attention than just leave it be.
