Report on the past eight years

We already wrote this, and we do happen to want the Provence to do/get better... keeping this only hurts us, although we can probably keep it with no actual repercussions from not giving her a report. She didn't ask for one after all.

But my stance is on Giving it because let's make this place better.

The Runefang of Stirland

It's a RUNEFANG, there's no way we can keep this without getting the entire Empire pissed at us. Lol no.
We're giving it back.

Abelhelm's repeater rifle

Eh either or, there's no reason to believe she'll go after to get it, but no reason to think she won't either. She might not use rifles and thus not care about it, or she might want it. We're training with pistols though so there's no real reason for us to KEEP it either. And the more things of actual value we keep the more she may actually do something about it.

So, giving it back seems fine.

Liber Mortis.

Abelhelm told us to deal with it. We're dealing with it.
Keep it. Duh.

Miscellaneous contents of Abelhelm's Study

Ehh, ehhh... I mean it depends on what these are specifically but it's probably like the rifle that we can probably get away with keeping some of his stuff due to the whole dieing on campaign and likely anyone who knows enough about his study probably being ok with us keeping a few keepsakes or a book or two, or a spare hat and the like.

So either or is fine.

Information Network

We set it up to start getting paid from the Countess, but we can probably take it with us. Although, we can probably also still stay connected to it and let the new Countess use it. AFAIK the current sub-leader of the Network is our/was our subordinate and Anton's friend.

Sooo I guess Give it, but with strings attached? We are a Knight of Stirland after all having info helps us do our duty. Just... out of Demon Explody Range.

Gong Farmers and Niter Factory

Uh we set this up to help earn more money, but we just set it up and it was kind of ours... so I can see a good argument for keeping it.

Discretionary Funds

It's our leaving Pay, Keep it.

Keep that in mind before sparking off a campaign of terror that will end with Mathilde's execution at the hands of the Grey Order.

Who said anything about a campaign of terror? I repeatedly stated that it would be a very polite reminder. Not a fatal one.

Would the Counts and Colleges come down on us like a sack of bricks if we bumped the newbie off? Yes. But embarrassing her in a restrained manner however will get nothing more than a laugh.

Uh... no? Why do you think that'll be how it is? Doing it will more than likely ruin any good feelings she has towards us.

She doesn't DISLIKE us, she's just scared of the chance that we'll go EXPLODEY DEMON WOOPS, FUCKED UP MY MAGIC.

... Which isn't an UNFAIR stance to have in WHF.

Regarding the Rifle and Abelheim's other stuff, how does everyone feel about those if they could choose them independent of plans? Personally I don't have a strong opinion either way and I think there are other plan makers who feel the same. Would be nice to go with the majority on those.

Honestly the only way I can think that is reasonable for us to keep the info network is if we wanted to secure a position in the court of another Elector count.

[Puts aside salt and desire to spite]

Yeah especially since she's just a kid who probably grew up on stories about Witch Hunters dealing with magic users.

Yeah, but I'm genuinely curious about the limits of her power. What exactly checks her power? I'm assuming she has limits, but what are they?
This is Feudalism. The Elector Count's powers would be checked by the nobles under her, her peers and the Emperor. She can't do anything that nobility as a whole are against, because they are the people who run Stirland. She can't do anything that would piss of her peers, as that might risk war or damage trade, and she can't disobey the emperor who she serves.

All of these are enshrined in both law and tradition, and while technically she could strip us of our rights as a Knight, without a good justification the other nobles would be against that even if they didn't like us, simply because that would mean she could do the same to them. Given Wizard Chic and our own accomplishments, I'm fairly sure nobles hold us in a positive light.

Well. That's that. I'll have to think a bit on the non-obvious give/keeps. Magister rank seems the obvious next move, decide on our future after that. If we don't make it, at least we'll fInd out what else we need to do and can focus on that.

On the plus side, the Stirland Watch morale problems are fixed!

Given Wizard Chic and our own accomplishments, I'm fairly sure nobles hold us in a positive light.
Except... we kidnapped, tortured and deposed one of their peers. They'll be happy to see us gone as spymaster, on the whole. Our rights to noble title is probably a little more conflicted than that.

Where will you call home now?
[ ] You're quite comfortable where you are, thank you very much. Wurtbad is your position of power; Spymistress was just one arrow in your quiver.
[ ] There's another way to secure Abelhelm's legacy. Travel to the town of Drakenhof and sink your claws into it.

i could go for ether

And what will you be doing?
Staying in Stirland:

[ ] Managing your institutions - the EIC, your land, and the Information Network and Gong Farmers if retained.

Leaving Stirland:
[ ] That blasted girl will likely follow through on that letter of recommendation. Send words to the Elector Counts, see if anyone's got a spot in their council for a Grey Wizard.
[ ] Hang about. Why bother with that lot? Send word to the Dwarfholds instead. Maybe one of them could use a councillor.
[ ] Traditionally, a Journeywoman journeys, flexing their arcane might and seeing the world. Find Asarnil and seek instruction in the fine art of being a mercenary - one that only serves the Empire and its allies, of course.
i could be convinced for ether of these

[X] Good riddance to Wurtbad; you've got a nice bit of land up in the hills and a commitment to invest in it, and some solitude will do you good. Lock up the Sunken Palace in case you ever need a safehouse in the future.

Made my own plan since I don't like most of the other.

Yeah, but I'm genuinely curious about the limits of her power. What exactly checks her power? I'm assuming she has limits, but what are they?

Entire books have been written about the checks and balances of feudal society and I'm not sure how to summarize it within a paragraph. But I'll try: she can largely do as she pleases, but if she pisses off those with power too much they'll rebel, and if she pisses off too many people without power they'll rebel, and this possibility usually keeps would-be tyrants in checks and if it doesn't, they usually end up dead. So the question is: does she want whatever she might try to take more than she doesn't want to piss people off by taking it? She's brand new to the role and you're a war hero, so she'd be looking for a veneer of legality if she was interested in stripping you of something.

@BoneyM what's going to happen to the things we have "Influence" in, like Bidenhof? Is it tied to our information network or could we use that as a basis for stuff even if we vote to give up everything under Julia?

Most of your influence is tied into your role as Spymistress, but some things, like Biderhof, are held personally.

Re: The Gong Farmers and the Nitrate Factory:

Paperwork under Jack is pretty lax and cash-in-hand. The Gong Farmers were a Guild in their own right before they joined the Watch; you can separate it off again and hand the Watch over, and if she talks to rank-and-file Watchmen and if they say 'hey the people that collect literal human shit aren't around any more', how much of a possibility do you think there is that she will consider this theft?

So the main check on her power is the nobility, who would be upset on principle if she fucked with us like that, and who would only get more upset given that we haven't done anything wrong.

Cool.

But given all that's happened, I say it's time to leave Stirland. Get our Magister Robes and Hat, and start doing some research, with a side of adventuring, though not necessarily in that order.

Now I just have to figure who to vote for.

Anyway, still want to keep our territory now that we've invested in it, who knows? Maybe it'll turn out to have a Gromril lode underneath it that's gone undetected and ahahahahahaahahaha.

Still though, it's out of the way, and now it's fortified and we've gotten the foundations started towards making it capable of being self-sufficient, it's a pretty good spot for research.

The Sunken Palace at least is a decent backup place, but we can't expect to keep it secret indefinitely.

We can probably see about creating an Elite house guard or something like that, after all we are going to be doing some enchanting and we need to do something with all the enchanted stuff.

Jack's chance of remaining as head of the Watch with you no longer above him are absolutely zero. He'll stick around until a new Spymaster is named, hand over the reins to them, and then he'll be on the other side of the Empire and accelerating.

Julia can go either way. Her vision for Stirland can be met by the Elector Countess or by a growing trade guild.

Was that genuinely the new counts idea of a polite dismissal*? Stirland is screwed.

Again I'd like to point out that my suggestion was to throw a few minor headaches at the new ruler not send her a five page essay detailing how we personally set half of Stirland on fire. Subtle, discrete and restrained.

Plus Weber could get away with a fair bit. Van Hal is a new leader with very little support as of yet. A count is only as strong as their supporters.

*Stannis Baratheon would have winced.

Anyway I'm done I'll drop the topic now.

Good to know, thanks.

So, what do we think this would entail? Do we think there's a chance of us taking it over or would we just be setting up shop there like any other mage in Sylvania?

Again, feel free to ignore this. I'm not always the best at judging when I'm asking for too much information so if you don't want to answer then I completely understand.

[X] Plan Fruits of Labor.

as long as we add this
[x] see if you can find a position for Anton in the EIC, he did resign for us and loyalty like that should always be returned

If we wanted to screw R v Hal and Stirland over... casually, we should try and poach Julia for the EIC.

But, it's better for Stirland for Julia to serve there, so I'd be for encouraging her to put her name forward for Spymistress.

Anton is heir to a Barony, with a father who must be pushing 50+. He's fine, and doesn't need a job.
