[X] Plan One: The towns and villages are distractions. We should go straight for Castle Drakenhof.

[X] With Asarnil. Your Shadowsteed means you can keep pace with him, and why would you pass up the chance to fight alongside a dragon?

A sensible plan? No but it sounds cool.

[x] Plan three re-existing roads and bridges are necessary for a proper supply line. We should got via Pfaffbach.
[x] By Van Hal's side, whatever happens.

I wonder what Jovi plans.
Is he high enough on the magister-road to do a piece of battle-magic?
The coming fights will show.

Even the least of White Battlemagic can be very useful in burning some undead leaders or heroes, I think. Burning Gaze?

[x] Plan Two: We can't leave the 'Countess' in play. Strike at the town of Drakenhof.

[X] With your fellow wizards, so that you can work with them on the magical side of things.

It's not about being about to contribute but to learn from the high wizards, actual first hand experience on wind weaving are valuable. Van's command tent is also acceptable for learning things like tactic/strategy/war math.

I'd have chosen Plan 3 if only our pistoliers were not dismounted! Without a light cavalry force we cannot afford too stretched supply lines, so the plan becomes really risky and costly in terms of manpower.

Plan 2, if successful, gives us a FOB, denies the Vampires at least a fraction of the city's population and graveyard and avoids a situation in which a botched fording gets our advance guard trapped between Castle and village.

Once the village of Drakenhof is taken our friends the dwarves (miners included!) can help with field fortification and then we are going to blast whatever comes out of the castle and its crypts with our huge artillery (mundane and magical) park. Asarnil and the knights as a quick reaction/flanking force and the slayers to counter charge any tougher gribbly which might reach our lines.

When the onslaught slows down we start marching again and as soon as the castle is in range blow it to smithereens!

Only hitch in the plan is a big fail on the crossing. If only Ranald could bless it!

I want to be with the wizards to see what they are up to (not tabt we could last a minute against tge Amethyst patriarch if for some reason he proved hostile to van Hal, but maaaybe we can spot ill intentions and make a run of it and inform our Count of the risk. If all goes well we will also have a first hand look at how battle magic works and may learn a trick or two from these more experienced guys, even though they are from a different school. (Thinking more of stuff like dispelling, use of a magical staff and the like, rather than spellcasting which will obviously work quite differently for them than with Ulgu).

"Come back soon. It's about time you graduated."
Glad to hear Reggie thinks we're getting ready too. But I'd still like a little more Shadow Magic - maybe the easier Shadowcloak rather than Invisibility. :ninja:
The tale you were told speaks of standing at a certain point on a street corner and turning ninety degrees in six different ways; you opt for standing near that certain point and grabbing the first person that's glowing.
Ahahaha. Glorious practicality and common sense in play: make someone else deal with this shit. But probably not helping inter-Order relations.
not as much as I'd hoped, but better than I'd feared.
This is becoming something of a catch phrase for Abelhelm, isn't it?
The third plan is to acknowledge that trying to ford a river in early spring is ridiculous
Assuming [the dwarves] can get across at all, they'll shave their heads and swear slayer oaths if they can't get something up within a day or two that lasts longer than any 'permanent' manling bridge.
River crossing feels a lot less ridiculous with dwarven engineering in play. :) And I think there probably isn't a River Kraken or anything of that sort which would stop the dwarves entirely, so...

I'm board with the large bloc for these two. Priority targets, short and direct supply line, and stick with the boss.

....The fucking Patriarch of the Amethyst Order came in person.

....There is some shit going on in the background and I do NOT like it.
I'm going to optimistically assume that he's here to recover a lost Orb of Sorcery that made its way to Sylvania.

And we dont necessarily have the numbers (and possibly supplies) to sustain a grinding invasion.
Food from the Moot probably helps a lot on the supply front, but I agree otherwise. This is a tamping down of the gnarliest bits of Sylvania, not an attempt to conquer and hold it all. We'll be doing it again in ten years, hopefully with a few dozen miles of the Haunted Hills being on our side of the border next time.

And a dwarven-made bridge straight into Drakenhof.

Cross training between colleges is not advised. Our Ulgu shaped mind should not gaze deeply into Shyish.

I hope to see a purple sun launched at the enemy HQ and main body of the army.
Well...two battle wizards and a wizard lord...odds are good!

Either we pulled an Anton or that Patriarch has a very ulterior motive.

The Moot sends more soldiers than the rest of the Empire combined? Ha!
So will Van Hal be attending that pie festival they are keep inviting him to?

Free dwarf bridge. Secure forward operating base. Mostly safe supply lines. What is not to like?

[X] By Van Hal's side, whatever happens.
While I would like to keep an eye on Viggo Hexensohn… I'm not certain we could do much about it one way or another. Dude is a Wizard Lord. If he wants to make trouble then trouble shall be made. Better to stick with our own Lord character for mutual protection and asskicking.

Headcanon: Mathilde is definitely not capable of reading at full gallop and is merely pretending, because she's a Ranald worshipper and that's hilarious.
She cheats. When using Shadowsteed she kind of melds with the hourse, getting a perfectly stable seat.

Interesting bit of trivia: He is the only High Elf with Toughness 4. Possible the only elf period with T4, although I don't have the latest DE or WE books to check.

While we might not learn any magic directly from observing the Battle Wizards, the experience about how best to use magic in support of an army and how to reduce the risk of this kind of extremely dangerous magic could be valuable.

That would need some kind of garrison on the place to avoid the Sylvanians just tearing it down again. I suspect even Dwarves probably don't build well enough to hold up under ten years of tireless wrecking.
Yeah, true that: bridges go both way, after all, it's a also a straight way from Drakenhof to Stirland.
