I have two questions that are relatively small overall but will be impactful on my grav-ball omake @Dr. Snark :
1) Is the Kaleesh Gravball League playing with or without hover boots? Corellian Rules don't use them. It's also played without them on Corulag and Lothal, but other places used them. Not sure if Riphath did or not.
2) Are we using the canon or legends version of the game? Canon: 8 players, a bit more well-defined rule set. Legends: 6 players, rules are a bit more up in the air (I'd probably use the canon ruleset but roll fullbacks into the center striker position).
When? Indirectors are still cannon. And they don't work at all without mass shadows. The only thing undefined is how close to the planet's surface the mass shadow is now.(due to the falcons in atmosphere hyperspace exit)
Which makes some sense if you think about it. Mass shadows is defined by a planets mass, not its volume. Planters with high density will have mass shadows much larger then their surface. Low density planets(like ones with a visible portion of their crust and mantle removed) would have mass shadows much closer or even below their surface.
If this crit is any indication, Ciaran will soon be known as a beloved humanitarian among the Chiss as much as the rest of the galaxy. Perhaps we might be invited to build a base on Csilla?
501st: Rolled 96 + 10 + 20 = 126 (Palpatine won't realize how screwed he's about to be - who's up for practically total subversion of one of the Republic's most elite forces?)
Standard-grade success gives standard rewards. "Quinlan Vos located and dossier compiled, potential for further communication." I'm hoping that we do in fact make contact with him, to sway him away from the dark side or at least away from anything too drastic, but this will definitely take some follow up.
No super-critical success here, but we've made contact with the Green Jedi, which should open a lot of doors to train with them or learn from their history. (Ruusan interlude or bust!)
"Huh. I knew we had a lot of Senators in our pocket, but this is ridiculous." The Galactic Senate smacks down Palpatine's attempted power-grab, and both factions of the Jedi know that Lady Ciaran was the one who saved their bacon.
Diplomatic Ships: Rolled 55 + 10 + 20 = 85 (One day one of these will crit. Probably.)
+1 Diplomacy Action? (Pretty please). Now we can send our heroes and agents and emissaries all over the galaxy with comfort, style, and heavy ordnance. Plus those shrouds should be really handy when negotiations get tend.
Taris Games: Rolled 64 + 10 + 20 = 94 (Less like Rio, more like...er...the good kind of Olympics. In space.)
It may have started as a camp for refugees from the war, but for its residents, Taris is home, now and forever. Coruscant may be the capital of the Galactic Republic, but Taris is the capital of the galaxy's Rim.
Mungo: Rolled 71 + 10 + 20 + 12 = 113 (I forgot to roll for him. The Dice punished me for my arrogance. Alternatively: "He's a bold explorer who lives for the thrill of exploration. He's a paranoid inventor just trying to stay alive. Together, they fight crime!" Or something like that.)
You thought Maul had it rough in canon when Sidious shows up in his full Sith glory? You ain't seen nothing yet. Remember how Obi-Wan Kenobi lost a fight to Jango, despite using a lightsaber form designed for use against blasters, and despite catching Jango off guard and with a young Boba to protect? Now Jango has the entire Cuy'val Dar behind him, not to mention the Mandalorian Guardians or our other agents in the field. Maul is a goner.
Tarkin: Rolled 71 + 20 + 20 + 12 + 3 = 126 (Thrawn is very happy about this. And you bet your ass this is synching with the Jedi Laws crit.)
Sora Bulq is dead, the Jedi conspirators are MIA or too minor to care about... Tarkin's pretty much the only one left to serve as a scapegoat. Sucks to be him, I guess. Hope he enjoys retirement.
Erso: Rolled 2, Rerolled to 10 + 20 + 20 + 6 = 56 (Honestly this failing and being rerolled to a bare success is so in character for Cheriss I can't help but laugh. Does that make me a bad person?)
Right now I'm envisioning Cheriss as an 'Inspector Clouseau' figure, blundering her way to phenomenal success. Perhaps Gavin could fill the role of Ponton, the sidekick?
Cularin: Rolled 7 + 15 + 20 = 42 (Of course. Cularin was home to the Answer of Life, the Universe, and Everything this whole time.)
Lady Ciaran meets Headmaster Lanius Qel-Bertuk and Lore Keeper Oden Malksch, and realizes there is far more to Cularin that a simple survey would reveal.
Jerec: Rolled 61 + 15 + 20 = 96 (Yay! I can keep doing stuff with him if I want!)
In gratitude, Jerec relates his travels across the Unknown Regions, culminating in a visit to a little planet called Zakuul.... Or maybe it was Ahch-To.
"No one's slick as PR-1,
No one's quick as PR-1,
No one's neck's as incredibly thick as PR-1's
For there's no droid in town half as manly,
Perfect, a pure paragon!"
Thrawn: Rolled 5 + 10 + 20 + 38 = 73 (Understanding Grievous is neither art or science, which is throwing Thrawn for a bit of a loop.)
For all his knowledge of military strategy*, Thrawn had never truly understood the rule "no battle plan survives contact with the enemy." Not until now.
*I didn't realize, until I wrote this line, how badly I want to hear Thrawn's rendition of "I am the very model of a modern major general."
Fingers crossed that the crit on Muunilist will give us access to Hego Damask's old properties, especially his lab on Aborah.
[] Legacy Of Damask: Settling in on Muunilist has given you the opportunity to take a closer look at Hego Damask's old properties present on the planet. While Palpatine has moved to ensure that they are not for sale, it shouldn't be too hard to get teams in and see if there's anything left there. Chance of Success: 95% Reward: Hego Damask holdings investigated/looted
As for Nar Shaddaa... maybe we discover a back-door into Revan's compound?
[] HK-47 - Beneath Scum And Villany: As it turns out Nar Shaddaa of all worlds is home to a compound that once belonged to Revan himself during the Cold War era, and HK-47 was entrusted with passcodes to said compound. Have him lead a team there to see what remains after all these years. (Uses Learning Bonuses, HK-47 must be assigned to this action if chosen) Chance of Success: 60% Reward: Revan's Nar Shaddaa compound accessed, ???
Or perhaps we rediscover an Evocii enclave in the depths of Nar Shaddaa, and offer to help them settle on Taris? That'd be amazing PR, to save a humanoid species from the brink of extinction.
Not sure where the threshold for success is, but I doubt if any of these succeeded this round. Blackguard would give one free 'Study Force' action, Vianist would give one free 'Archaeology' action, and neither of those are near the range where that'd be a reasonable reward. Maybe Vianist gives a bit of 'salvage' income from minor archaeology sites? Fulluusub was another low roll, though that base upgrade wasn't restricted to high-value rewards, so we still might get something out of it.

Continuing from my previous post, how the hell is it remotely possible to send a laser through hyperspace? did we ever get any explanation for how that worked? Some technobabble at least?
It's rather fitting that Thrawn can only get limited insight on the Kaleesh. In canon they're the one species he couldn't crack through their art (so he just nuked the planet from orbit).
?
Because you don't want to spend the same amount as a capital ship on a weapon that has only a very slim chance of hitting the target. which is only reduced by spending significant time aiming in full view and range of the targets weapons. not to mention it only clipped the target it was aiming at even after several minutes of aiming, despite its target being several hundred times it's size.
They also could have killed it well before it launched, and chose to do so because they believed it was unmanned and out of the fight. and relying on an enemy's incompetence is not a good strategy to bet on in a battle.
Be it the side in a position of power, or the under dog, any time you had enough time to build/purchase such a weapon, it is a much better deal to buy a ship instead which you can use for MANY other things and deal significant more short term and long term damage with a lot more reliability. It's a nitch weapon of questionable reliability.
Edit: also, you do know that Hyperdrives are often the majority of a ships cost? heavily implied such during the negotiations with Walto for a replacement hyperdrive in the phantom menace.

It...shouldn't be any harder than sending anything else? Or is hyperspace in starwars something that you need a reactor to stay in, not just to break into?

I always thought it was. Maybe I'm wrong, and if your hyperdrive breaks you are lost forever in another dimension? If it is a portal into another dimension, then how does the laser get back out?

Movie had the beam visible from the origin to the target, therefore the First Order somehow built an FTL weapon. Someone get the distance between Starkiller Base and, Coruscant? Did they blow up Coruscant? What the fuck were the script writers thinking? Anyway, get those distances and you can calc the time it would take to destroy the know habitable worlds in the galaxy from a single system. Also, it drained a sun. And didn't just fly off due to its new mass. As you can tell I have issues regarding the film.
So, I take it there may, be a chance that instead of a totally innocent Robot Boy, we'd have a totally not revolving espionage Cowboy for a diplomat, maybe? But more seriously, thinking lightly back. I can at least throw one conclusion;
We are by far, already "The Hank Scorpio" of Star Wars. And if having Grand Admiral Thrawn on our side isn't great enough an indication of what Palpatine doesn't have, then having a few more characters who would have clashed with the Jedi, or even become antagonists in another setting be our most loyal and happy of hero units, is an entirely different thing.
...Y-y-y-you looked up a wiki entry for Automata!? Come on man! 99% of the fun of Automata is figuring things out and - oh god my inner fanboy is trying to break loose.
*ahem*
What I am trying to say is that I'm not disappointed in you for just looking up a wiki entry, it's just that...actually yes, I am disappointed in you. Bad Publicola. Go play the game. Or at least watch an LP of it. I don't care if it means you'll miss thread stuff.
To defend myself: I only glanced at the 'Personality' section to see if 9S resembled PR-1 ("Polite and very formal", "helpful to his partner", "curious mind towards new technology and knowledge as a whole"... close enough). I didn't pay attention to any other section, or the story, since I'd never played the game and didn't really intend to. (I really don't play many games -- it took me until last summer to finally getting around to play KOTOR 1 and 2, after all). Hate to disappoint, but I think I prefer to keep up with the 'thread stuff'.
Incidentally, anyone else interested in voting for PR-Ocelot? I really prefer the less androgynous aesthetic of the MGS character.
