You realize you are endangering what we've accomplished so far for no discernible gain?

How are the shaitan themselves supposed to make arrangements for something higher level where I assume you to reveal this info if they don't know they are dealing with someone important in the first place?

It simply doesn't work.

Well, we are here trying to undo the damage caused by our heroism to their diplomatic efforts* it seems that it would be easy to get in the room to leverage our position to push lots of the credit to the Earth Genies.
We have the pass we were given.
I just don't want to give the information about where we are from easily without even seeing the people we are voting to give the info to.
I'm up for saying we're from PoB, I'm up for saying it to an important member of Alyneah's family. I am not up for announcing it brazenly to the polite functionary we're probably going to meet first, or just voting to tell someone without having interacted with them first.
Basically, not in this vote; not until we get a good look at the inside.

*We caused problems, but they would have fallen to the Sultan's forces without us showing up, so they can't really say much, espically if we try to give them as much credit as we can.

If we call ourselves King, they have no context if that's a big deal, our actions get us an in easily, PoB not needed.

edit: You know what, I've made my position on this clear enough, and I think you can understand, and disagree with it anyway, so... yeah. Things will probably turn out ok, I just wanted to maximise profits and minimse distraction. And a good counterpoint is that with this information, they are likely to not give us too much crap or be racist against Maelor, Glyra and Viserys and Dany.

Any your warded bit does help set the tone (requesting privacy) well enough.

Ludicrous amounts sure but it will still get done, perfect conduction won't care how much you shove into it it still won't burn/melt/etc.

@DragonParadox

The interlude was amazing, love Vee, love the implications of reputation our port is developing.

Clearly even someone trying to get rid of trouble will seek us out for healing, a miracle, soon sailors may even behave on the docks, a MIRACLE.

Even the gods have limits.

But does the Wrath of Vee?

@TotallyNotEvil

I just don't understand why you feel the need to say "Plane of Balance" it doesn't make us any Kinglier.

I'm going to vote for you and hope you change the three unnecessary words that a good portion of the thread has a problem with. It will achieve the exact same thing sans salt and giving things away for free.

Edit: I'd still agree with making sure the place is warded before saying we are King. Merchants don't necessarily need to be from anywhere, they just need to go places.

Being King is a pretty clear indication we have holdings that can be targeted independent of our person.

The plane of balance bit explains our misdirection, and lets us begin negotiating a trade deal. The thing about negotiating trade access to the plane of balance, is we need to tell them about the plane of balance. No one will know how valuable the information is without knowing it, making it just a little bit hard to sell. A lawful neutral noble house that is already in our debt is a best case scenario for release, because they have multiple reasons to keep mum about where we are from, being in our debt, and now the potential to having ready access to plane of balance trade goods.

I guess I can get behind that if we can at minimum all agree not to take people there.

Not to visit, not to inspect our production facilities, not as guards or diplomats or any reason.

@DragonParadox was very clear that the knowledge it exists does not let them travel there, no not even Clerics and their Godhax BS.

Pretty please ?

I'll just wait for a chance to scream "I told you so!" When being introduced as king bites us in the ass.
Misrepresentation works both ways and I feel that being seen as a king closes more doors here and now than it opens.

I still think introducing ourselves as from the PoB as information freely given, is a terrible idea.

The whole point of people knowing it exists being important is that they will now start to attempt to get access to it, where before they wouldn't put the effort in because it would be believed impossible.

Sure, if it just stays to this particular house who only helps us, then that's great, but even then we should get some sort of concession out of them for such valuable information.

[X] "Viserys Targaryen, Lord of Flame and Sky."
-[X] Others introduce themselves as they will.

Okay, I give up on avoiding the Lord of Flame and Sky claim. Can we please nix Plane of Balance reveal until we are actually ready to share, such as during a formalized negotiation, rather than just blurting it out? Viserys is supposed to be savvy. Please?

You'll have to get in line. I've already called dibs on this "I told you so!".

They already owe us a concession, due to the debt they have towards us from saving their guard captain and the diplomatic mission. How can we let them know we have such valuable information, without giving them the information? How will we get in a negotiation with someone important enough to deal with this matter, instead of being led to a junior member of the family who thanks us and says "pick your reward from this list, the majordomo will see you out?"

Not telling them is a mistake, and will throw unnecessary roadblocks in our way to even getting to the negotiation table. A table we will be escorted to immediately and promptly if we do tell them.

Honestly... I just want my reward.

I would only reveal we come from PoB if we meet in a room with someone important not the majordomo.

Perhaps dropping a reference to Valyria could ring any bells and give us said meeting?

No, I like the current plan.

I feel as though we will be trading with this particular noble house more than others, and thus over time we can get to know them better and gain trust.

Then we can tell them that we know a way into the plane of balance, and we will not be seen as a fool or worse.

Basically, I want to know they won't immediately spread it around if we do tell them, because they are in no way obligated not to, and if we do end up telling them, which we likely will eventually, I want to get something out of it.

Plus I doubt being a mortal "king" would impress them all much, if you compare their Jewel to Sorceror's Deep I know which one is found wanting.

We are also still very ignorant of their political landscape, they may make all the promises in the world to never reveal the information on pain of truedeath of entire line.

And then we find out that all Shaitan know that such vows have exclusion clauses for the Sultana's Department of Whatever etc.

Perhaps before the Sultana's father died the Genies already had an agreement to rediscover the Plane of Balance despite other differences.

We just don't know enough to go spouting sensitive information even if we wanted to.

A leader of a polity is different than an individual, not matter how petty his kingship. They're Lawful Neutral outsiders, who are known for being rigid and uptight (comparatively) about social order. They wont be pleased to find out that we've not been properly treating with them, but instead lying to them for a prolonged period of time by pretending to be a merchant.

And they're incentivized to keep this to themselves, if they have even the smallest wit of trade savvy.

Pretending?

We are a merchant, we are also a King. Seeing as we are here for trade and not military alliances etc it's in fact more accurate to say merchant.
