@TotallyNotEvil

I feel we should drop the plane of balance and replace it with "of somewhere that I've managed to get this far without disclosing" or any possible variant, or just drop the "of the PoB" until we learn more, or just say "Sorcerer's Deep"

And honestly, I think King is a bad idea, it's a technicality, but these are basically a people of friendly!slaving!Stannis. Would "Prince" do, or maybe just add after King, something along the lines of "Well, technically Prince, but that'll change in a few months?" - implying change, ambition and with it, the possibility for those of this house to aid us and thereby profit from our ascension in one sentence.

These are non-human - Lawful, I'd rather play it safe than risk them being dicks because we misrepresented ourselves, or however they see it.

But my big concern is saying PoB without any promise of profit, why not whet their appetites for the info? :)

Misrepresentation nothing. We are King of our own Realm, and people recognize ourselves as such there.

Moreover, people in the lands contested by us as is our right, think of us as King.

At this point, titles like this really do come down to a matter of perception. We already make enough every year to rival two of the smaller Kingdoms in annual profits based on raiding and trading incomes alone, which does not even get into how much we earn just by adventuring a few times a month further afield.

Once you get past level 10, you generally speaking start to have more or as much personal power as leaders who do not have the title "Sultan" in front of theirs.

@TotallyNotEvil, @BeepSmile has a good point. We should wait with the PoB announcement until we got them more curious.

Though declaring ourselves King of the Stepstones should be fine. We are ruling all of them, what with Tyrosh being usually excluded from the count.

They can't burn Fire, they can't fly in an AMF.

Besides that, that title specifically refers to Reds.

Guys, seriously.

If there was ever a time to introduce ourselves properly, it's now.

Just about anything with wings can fly in an Antimagic Field, and as the Black Djinni just showed, we hardly have a monopoly on being able to burn things normally immune to fire.

We can turn anyone who annoys us into a turtle, but that doesn't make us Lord of the Turtles.

Guys, DP has said twice now that us being a king drastically changes the outlook of all future interactions. The Shaitan put serious stock on that.

Let's not let our paranoia, justified as it often might be, unmake everything we've achieved with the protocol-Genies.
Revealing we represent a polity opens up all sorts of new vistas for future talks.

There will be vastly different protocol the Shaitan will follow if they know from the very start they are dealing with royalty. We only have so much time here before our schedule gets completely screwed up. If we're stuck here going through two weeks of ceremony because to do otherwise would not only offend the Shaitan but break the law, I won't be the only one that's salty.

I think in first edition D&D once you hit around level ten you stopped getting money as rewards and started getting noble titles and land as reward due to how hilariously rich they would be otherwise.

@ryuan We seem to hit upon either Magic Items or Supermaterials as a substitution for that most of the time... but even then not all the time. See Mantarys... and Westhaven... and probably Pentos, knowing our luck.

My only grief with this vote is that the wording makes it sound like Viserys is the king of the whole Plane of Balance, which is just a tad premature at the moment. :V
I had this thought also, but I gather that the intention is to introduce ourselves as a king from the Plane of Balance, not the king of the whole Plane. (The comma kind of makes that distinction, but it's not very clear.)

Regardless, DP usually paraphrases the exact wordings of the plans, so I wouldn't worry about it. It'd be OOC for Viserys to claim to be the ruler of the entire Plane given his stance on such things before.

  • [X] "Viserys Targaryen, Lord of Flame and Sky. And company."
-[X] Let the others introduce themselves if they feel the need.
-[X] Once inside, ask if the location is warded and, apologizing for the slight misdirection, reintroduce yourself as King Viserys Targaryen, of the Plane of Balance.
[X] "Viserys Targaryen, Lord of Flame and Sky."
-[X] Others introduce themselves as they will.
[X] "Viserys Targaryen, Lord of Sorcerer's Deep."

I'm sure wrecking the forgefiends and one of our subordinates going full shounen protagonist on someone that's likely a boogeyman in these elemental planes is quite enough to pique their insterest. We are like a Queen and a pair of Knights suddenly entering a chess game, playing red.

I say their interests are quite piqued already, and don't feel the misdirection is worth the risk.

Finally caught up. Vee continues to be my favorite, she's just the right combination of compassionate and tough as nails due to that compassion.

By the way, does Rhaella know about the 'Queen Rhaella'? @DragonParadox please put that revelation in an interlude if possible :D

Waittt! I have a justification for that! Someone else paid for it, it was an experiment in what can be achieved with magically enhanced ship design!

Also, wanted to have something sturdy for kraken ramming.

Sensible stuff.

Edit: Maybe somtihng to overawe people too - imagine if the Hunter's Moon was bigger than it. How embarrassing. Alternatively, it's a metaphor for a dick-size-competition between Robert and Viserys.

I think the whole "Kill your enemies, and get it over with, don't torture them" when we first met her was probably the first bit of stopping her from going down a very dark, angry path.

Sorry, but don't want to drop the PoB bomb just yet. I know it ties the vote, buttt hopefully there will be a change in voter choice or (what I would view as) a positive edit to the votes.

Edit edit: taking out vote.

Edit edit: revoting. Don't have strong feelings on king bit, but PoB points stand.

@Azel I think the first big hurdle for realizing we can make railguns is a reason for us to start playing around with electromagnitism. So we need a reason to play around with magnets. We know that magnetic compasses are a thing in asoiaf, however, there is something that messes compasses up that might give cause to start playing around with them and trying to figure them out. A ship with a ferrous hull (like say, steel) will mess with a magnetic compass, and thus provide a justification for doing things like developing spells to see magnetism and start playing around with that sort of physics.

You realize you are endangering what we've accomplished so far for no discernible gain?

How are the shaitan themselves supposed to make arrangements for something higher level where I assume you to reveal this info if they don't know they are dealing with someone important in the first place?

It simply doesn't work.

"Hmmm, one thing that I have found that Magic is mighty, but Magic coupled with mundane effort can create something that would a shit-ton of magic to accomplish; Lyre of Building + Mortal effort is easier than throwing down a couple of wishes to build stuff.

The Maesters studied a lot of stuff, how reality worked and the rules and such before the mending. I wonder if they have some information that I can use to meld magic and mundane to make something awesomely destructive in a small area?"

Just a thought. *shrugs*

An neither would a perfect non-conductor, since it would not get any electrical flow. Dry wood is terrible conductor. To get around that, you need truly ludicrous amounts of energy, like in lightning strikes.

Ludicrous amounts sure but it will still get done, perfect conduction won't care how much you shove into it it still won't burn/melt/etc.

@DragonParadox

The interlude was amazing, love Vee, love the implications of reputation our port is developing.

Clearly even someone trying to get rid of trouble will seek us out for healing, a miracle, soon sailors may even behave on the docks, a MIRACLE.

Errr, Duesal is voting for TNE's plan. And your vote doesn't tie it.

Sorry @BeepSmile, I switched over a while ago. I really didn't feel like fighting with TNE on this one, I've got way too much going on right now.
