My takeaway from that module was that flying cities are dumb and you're inviting disaster when they fall from the sky. :V

The greater takeaway on my part is that coming at the Goddess of Magic is highly unwise if you are a) mortal and b) heavily reliant on magic to keep your civilisation alive. I mean, your point is fair, but if Karsus hadn't been such an idiot everything would have been fine. And Illefarn wouldn't have gotten shafted by the KoS due to the Weave up and dying for a short (relatively speaking) period of time.

More importantly though, while it doesn't inconvenience Viserys, it would be mighty inconvenient for all the normal people who live in SD. I mean, we can have a small flying island with a castle on it, but it's kinda terrible to tell all the merchants in SD who own sailing ships that they are SOL, only flying ships are worthwhile now.

Not to mention how it would impact foreign trade, when most people probably don't have a merchant fleet of flying ships. :p

Yeah it was the last point that did it in for me... we're stll totally getting a Flying Doomfortress though.

I'm not sure about the utility of a large refrigerator for us. It's greatest use is in food preservation, which we already have a massive advantage in with a chest of purification. Unless there is a more obvious means of profiting from it that I'm missing, a small ice box to chill food as part of preparation, and blue ice goblets and serving bowls would be a better value.
Fine, but we're getting a big ice box to chill food, or several if we can manage it. We're planning on building the world's grandest fortress (if not to the stupidly massive proportions of Harrenhall). That means we'll need a significant upgrade to the kitchens.

I do like the idea of chilled goblets, though. One for each party member and person of import in our kingdom (meaning baby PCs, subordinate PCs, Alinor, etc). So around 30-40 should be a safe number, and perfectly manageable without putting any significant dent in our Blue Ice reserves.

As for the Flying Island, I'll be perfectly happy to settle for allowing our Imperium Fortress (and only the fortress) to fly when we want it to fly.

I just want to point out that Harrenhall is smaller than any of the Five Forts at Yi Ti.
Ah. Well, we can't leave a challenge like that unanswered, now can we?

Stupidly massive proportions it is, only our project won't beggar a kingdom because we can pay for the damn thing.

I'm really looking forward to getting those wards from Bloodraven.

@DragonParadox, who would we need to study First Men wards? Lya is an obvious answer, but could Waymar help? What feats would we need to build wards like that for ourselves?

We don't have a fleet of flying ships yet.

Important distinction.

Note, I implicitly assumed we would have our own flying ships. I was saying even if we did, it would still hurt trade in SD, because encouraging trade is all about keeping costs and barriers low (where you want the trade to happen).

I think a flying palace, or alternatively a flying forward base would be impressive enough on it's own (think of the "flying the flag" potential there).

@Takesis has the right of it. If the selkies want to chill, they can go to the public bath house. Seriously, a chilly pool open for all citizens (yes including the selkies) strikes me as the perfect solution. SD must live up to the hype of world capital!

... I cant believe that fish hybrid of Tiamat went back in time and stole.my idea for their hoard.

(Really, I cant find the comment where Takesis says that, am I just blind? :p)

Waymar could certainly help.

It would be wasted on Maelor since he has at will charm person as an invokation and does not have the spell-slots to use charm monster. Tyene on the other hand has divine not arcane magic so she can't use it.
Well shit. I guess Lya's the default since she's the only one of our party who can use it, but it very much doesn't fit her style. :/

We could potentially sell it or give it as a gift, but that leaves a terrible taste in my mouth. Either way, I want to hang on to it.

@DragonParadox, what does it take to be able to craft a Runestaff?

Have the staff of Charming as a reward for baby-PCs perhaps?
It just needs an Arcane spellslot and Maelor'll get stronger soon enough. I'm inclined to keep it in reserve for him when he gets access to level 3 spells.

After he outgrows it then it can certainly be a reward for baby PCs.

It takes a feat and knowing the spells.

Anyway vote closed.

That's why it's perfect. ;) Capitalize on that innate talent.

But more seriously, with Maelor being sent out on quests with Glyra, a weapon like this would be very useful for him. He can tame the next monster he finds. :D @DragonParadox, who can wield the Runestaff of Charming? I know Lya can, but what about Maelor or Tyene?
Maelor's Charm invocation is Person and Monster in one.
Would be a waste.

Also @Diomedon even if we can keep foodstuff fresh, a large storage area at freezing could be used to keep loot and stuff from melting.

Like say an Ice Dragon. :p

Or like... the awakened snowman protector of Solstice cheer. <Shrug.>

Which reminds me @Goldfish a few gentle repose coins for those PCs without available spells for it. If the minions start bringing in bodies Vee can graft them the good stuff.

Lya would gain some by shoring up some of her weakness. With Charm Monster it's also easier to mission kill enemies for a time.

@Duesal
In a few levels, when Maelor has level 4 Slots, we could exchange his Charm for Chained Blast and give it to him.

Otherwise we'll have to wait for another good caster in our service.
