I just fail to see any advantage they provide over any other humanoid in the large size catagory.

You're both missing the point.

Diplomancing won't work right away, but we could go to them now and give them our pitch or at the very least assure them of passage through the Wall. Then they deliberate on that for months or years, and possibly come to us. But either way they will be away from the reach of the Others much faster than they would be if we didn't speak with them.

And you're missing the point. You're sacrificing a time sensitive issue (hiring sellswords), that must be resolved since we will be deploying them in two-three months, for a not time sensitive issue, where if we delay for three-four months will have barely gotten through 25-35% of their expected deliberations.
 
Or we could swing by the giants by next month as we supply the Night's Watch with some stuff and introduce them to constructs.

We don't have to abandon them @Duesal, just not right now.
 
We can't delay Tyrosh. The Stepstone Tax and our dealings with the Iron Bank will make them even more wary of us. And those cults there have been nearly ready to take over 2 months ago from what we know.

We need to get that done, not the umpteenth fetch quest.

A few things, though.

@Azel, this is not a fetch quest, this is steps taken in preparation for the Long Night. I would be fine if we didn't get the giants at all, I just want them south of the Wall.

And @Diomedon, fine, Tyroshi takes priority, but the giant situation is time sensitive even if it's less time sensitive. We likely don't have years until canon before winter comes in earnest. I want to make our pitch to the giants before the real cold starts rolling by while the Others are still hampered.
 
@Duesal, I'm perfectly fine with doing this soonish, but we can take up to a year for this. I would personally set it on the list for the months that Tyrosh needs to settle down.

Fair. We can take care of it next time we're at the wall (important supply drop off, or returning to copy more lore, or prisoner drop off if we capture some appropriate prisoners, etc). I was just suggesting next visit to Bloodraven as the furthest it would be pushed back

I'd rather do it as soon as we can manage. You guys just brought up the point on how giants take years to deliberate. If they're really going to take that long to decide we might as well speed it up as much as we can manage on our end and give them something to talk about, like how the Night's Watch will let them pass and how the dragon-man is offering them sanctuary.

I can live with that. I just don't want people thinking anything along the lines of, "It'll all be fine, we can forget about them for a while," and then later find out that the Others got shiny new giants to match our Children.
 
BTW you guys really should consider how you want to deal with Rhaella's presence at the Wall. I mean I know you want to hide who he is but nonetheless she will still be a a woman so you are going to need some justification for allowing her to set foot in Castle Black. While there is no hard and fast rule against female visitors they are a a matter of habit discouraged.
 
To be fair, we'll have enough time in-between Tyrosh being placed under our dominion and whatever the next milestone of this quest will be.
We will get giants out of there, we will do our best to give all the things they may ever need to Night Watch.
We will hunt down Illyrio, just like we'll do our best to exorcise dracolich from our tower, hunt down Blackfyre and find a weapon against Illithid.
And then there's going for power-up-journey to Yss' old temple in jungles...

...i'm starting to feel like we have too many plates up in the air.

By the way, it seems I've somehow missed it and I'm pretty sure asking for it was in plan when talking to Bloodraven.
What did he tell us about "Old Gods vs Dracolich" match and us setting it up?

Can't surf through chapters searching with my internet in such state as it is now >_<

Seems legit. But in this case the best measure would probably be to just dress her up in something that looks supernatural and vaguely ominous and tell her to not say a single word.

Or maybe a Cotf illusion. No one will think to check when we have a whole band of actual Children with us.

For the woman in the Wall problem, can we just disguise her as a man, and/or supernatural creature? Do we have a handy disguise ribbon lying around?
 
I was hoping the children of the forest would help distract from the whole woman thing (I guess Dany gets a pass, being eight). We can probably negotiate a separate room for the CotF and for Dany and our Mother for perhaps a day and a night, with Ser Richard helpfully dissuading anyone with bright ideas. Given we want to spend that day discussing what the watch needs most and what we might be able to provide it, I think we should be able to swing that much at the very least.

Careful there. We already got warning that hiding too many things when she knows we're hiding them makes her nervous. Fine if you intend to hide extraplanar stuff for now, but you should probably tell her about all the other stuff. It's a strange sort of reassurance that the horrors you're hearing about are the only horrors and that you don't have to worry about what you aren't being told, but that's basically Rhaella right now.

True, but she doesn't really know that other planes of existence exist yet. So we probably have time, since she can't wonder what we've gotten into in the Dreamlands until after she knows the Dreamlands are a thing.
