Stop: DON'T EVEN SUGGEST IT
Zoat's fairly easily doxxable, but given that the relevant data hasn't been posted previously, and that I'd really rather like to keep reading the story without having to wade through a huge doxx-fight in the comments, I think I'll rather firmly leave that particular reveal to the author themselves. If nothing else, it would be in awfully bad taste to give out potentially story-relevant information in advance, hmm?
don't even suggest it 'Easily doxxable' or not, it's a Rule 1 violation. Don't even suggest it, hint it, or go near it. 50 points and three day threadban. Don't do this again. Rule 1 violations are the fast track to permabans.

Stop: Stop
stop @CrackedCosmonaut,

It is explicitly mentioned under Rule 3 that threatening to use the report system and/or mentioning that you have reported another user is unacceptable. With that in mind, you have received 25 points and a three-day threadban.

Also, please steer clear of politics in User Fiction when discussing it is not appropriate in the current context.

warning

Posting solely to get a rise out of another user is not appreciated. You have received a Warning for Marginal Behavior and a three-day threadban.

Stop: Bring them all and in the darkness infract them
bring them all and in the darkness infract them Right, @BrambleThorn , @Chaoswind you can stop right here. Bramblethorn, I don't care how upset you are, I'm not a huge fan of you telling people to hit themselves in the crotch with a meat tenderizer, or armchair diagnosing them as a sociopath. Take 25 points and three days out under Rule 3, and know that this is your one warning in regards to spaghetti arguing. If you'd had previous offences, it'd be 50.

Chaoswind, I'm really unimpressed with your general conduct here. For many and varied violations of Rules 2, 3 & 4, I'm awarding you 50 points and a week out from the thread. Talking about how a character should just 'kill themself' is unacceptable, as is intimating that another user may have been abused, and then using that intimation as a weapon in an attempt to score cheap shots. This is neither clever nor impressive. Knock it off.

wait there's more @Crimson Doom, this post, in dicing up an opponent's post in an argument into tiny little chunks in order to score cheap points rather than addressing the argument holistically, you have violated Sufficient Velocity's Rule 4 in regards to 'spaghetti arguing', and have earnt a Warning for Marginal Behaviour for your efforts, due to no prior offences.

Warning: Oh hey it's me again
oh hey it's me again The conversation about 'virtue signalling' is going to stop. Now.

I'm actually going to take advantage of this to talk about the term 'virtue signalling' and how it relates to discussion. By accusing someone of virtue signalling, you are stating that they are falsely claiming to espouse views, or virtues, that they don't actually believe in. To be blunt, this is a terrible line of argument in the vast majority of discussions, particularly in discussions on an internet forum.

Someone accused of virtue signalling cannot actually disprove such a claim without going to extraordinary lengths - and in all honesty, they shouldn't have to. By accusing someone of virtue signalling you are in effect poisoning the well of discussion in order to score cheap points. Sufficient Velocity's moderation team go to lengths in attempts to foster discussion - people coming in and accusing people who are raising concerns that they feel are valid of 'virtue signalling' is very much frowned upon here, due to it effectively disrupting any attempts at said meaningful discussion and reducing a thread to infighting and attempts to score points.

In short, knock it off.

Furthermore, stop the 'loads of women actually secretly want to be stalked' tangent, effective immediately.

Information: So Let's Talk About This...
Moving to QQ in 16 hours and counting.

so let's talk about this... The really frustrating thing about this decision is that aside from intervening in the fairly consistent dustups that this thread produces the Staff on SV have been nothing but accommodating to Mr. Zoat. The thread is locked for review because it was in the midst of a heated argument that is going to result in fairly significant points for some of its participants. Discussion even raised the possibility of infracting a post under the Terms of Service, although ultimately this was dropped as unnecessary and overbearing.

It is our active and constant effort every time something blows up that helps maintain, along with the effort of the thread's community, a decent environment in this thread, and yet the active decision of Mr. Zoat- when it is locked to prevent an extreme blowup- is not to talk to staff or communicate anything to us but to immediately decide to leave the forum in an almost ultimatum like fashion. If he had asked us to reopen the thread before this we would have done so, contingent on him making an effort to keep the discussion on topic.

None of that was attempted. So as it is, the thread will remain locked until the moderator has completed his review, or Mr. Zoat comes to us with a request, as we would usually grant. If he decides, at the end of his dramatic countdown, to take the fic off Sufficient Velocity and onto Questionable Questing- or any other site- then that is absolutely his prerogative. Ultimately, I don't care where Zoat hosts his fiction, only that I feel that it is important to emphasize that we usually listen when people ask us things. We might not act in accordance with their request but we listen.

If he does decide to take the fic off, then I wish him best of luck. It is an inordinately successful fanfic, so I have no doubt that even if he went to Livejournal he'd have plenty of success! If he doesn't, then we're always happy to continue hosting it.
