Well it seems you snuck up on my omake idea, mugged it, slit it's throat, stole it's cadaver, and made something better, faster, and longer then what I was working on. ...I concede defeat, teach me your ways o' great one.

Heh. I'm no great anything, but I take your mugging/murder analogy as a great compliment!

As for teaching, I can only give some in the vein of your macabre line of thought: Go Frankenstein on that corpse! Write out the basic thought and ask 'how can I make it interesting?'. Chop up the idea and stitch it back together like I did, as I had started it before the war turn and was going to place it in the palace. Then I saw the update and just rolled with it.

Have fun with your own shambling undead abomination! I believe in you!

Let's see. Come and get me is likely the best bet. he has plan to deal with us, but that would extend both to us charging and staying put. (or advancing slowly).

the Knight's Lion.. I would say they are best used as shock troops. Basicly, rapid response, but applied offensivly. Use the Knight to smash into and through any portion of the enemies line anyplace we see it is weak, then pull back and do it again and again. crush and break sections of the enemy formations, hurting their moral and allowing our forces to mop up the sections they break.

We should also dedicate one of the mercenary units to be used as Calvary. once he's committed his forces, have them fly around to strike at his siege engines. he's likely prepared forces to defend them, but if we don't try, he can use the forces he assigned to that duty as a reserve. and if he dose not have such forces in place, we can capture them, destroying them or turning them against his forces. The Crimson company seems to be the best bet. or if their not willing, then The Wood Stalkers. Incentive for the crimson company, they can smash into the enemy's rear if they want, or look for the enemy king in the supply area afterwards.

[X] Plan: Between Hammer and Hard Place + Crimson strike
-[X] Assume defensive formation and advance, slowly
-[X] Rapid Response: Hold them back, keeping them in reserve to plug gaps in the line and respond to changing circumstances.
-[X] Dispatch the Crimson company (or the wood stalkers if they refuse) to swing around the strike at the enemy siege engines. once they are taken care of, they are to use their discretion on how best to hit the enemy from their new position.

Omake: On the Wings of Hope (Semi-Canon)
On The Wings of Hope

The story of the lifting of the siege of The City of Wingbard is a story filled with many parts. For now we will talk about the arrival of King Golden-Feather and his army and its impact on the city defenders.

By the time the forces of Griffornia had arrived the city had been under siege for months. While at the beginning of the war the defenders were bolstered by the presence of the whole of Wingbardy's military and the announcement of Griffornia's declaration of war in support of Wingbardy helped. It would test the people of the city like nothing they have faced since the last attack by Discord's crazed minions decades ago.

Over the long months many began to lose hope. The brutal attacks carried out by the scum in Brochard's employ both enraged and dismayed the citizen of the city. It enraged them that these monsters would be allowed free reign to do as they please with the promise of a pardon. But, it also dismayed them that they could do nothing stop them.

As more time passed many began to fear that the city would fall before the reinforcements would arrive. There were many arguments on what actions to take in response to this possibility. The warhawks believed that the only way to safe the city was to launch a sally in order to force a breakout. The doves argued that only surrendering would save them now. While the remaining unaligned factions still believed that Griffornia would come in time.

The Doves were shamed into silence with a simple order to look to the army outside the walls. A surrender would save no one. The murderers, rapists and thieves that make up a large part of the army would sack and burn the city. They would receive no punishment for any action taken and would get their fill. The warhawk were told to stand down that launching a attack would simply cost them the lives of their precious soldiers for no gains. The unaligned faction was informed that waiting could only last for so long.

In the end a compromise of the warhawks and unaligned was decided upon. The outer areas of the city would be evacuated into the center of the city. The area would them be made impassable as possible with the intent to funnel forces into ambushes and traps. This would be used to bleed the army of Brochard by making him send in forces when a "weakness" was discovered. Once the force was taken care of the "weakness" would be reinforced. So long as the enemy was not allowed to get to far the Wingbardians could create the illusion of weakening more than the really were. This would buy them time so the Griffornians could come to their aid. Another plan drawn up was that when the forces of King Golden-Feather arrived and engaged Brochard then and only then would a sally be authorized. Brochard would never suspect the "crippled" Wingbardians to have the strength left to challenge his army after all the "successful" assaults that had been performed. This would catch the armies of Brochard between the anvil of Wingbardians eager for vengeance and blood, and the Griffornians hammer.

The plan was mostly successful. While many enemies were able to be ambushed and killed this only lasted for so long. Eventually Brochard stopped sending in troops to exploit "weakness" in the defenses. Whether this was because he realized what was happening, ran out of disposable pawns, or was saving his troops for a coming battle was unknow. The casualties for the Wingbardians were luckily light with only a few fatalities and some permanent injuries. Most the the wounded were able to recover and they had extracted more than a fair trade in blood. Few if any troops that assaulted the city survived the encounters with its defenders.

Even with the time gained from such actions the people still grew restless and scared. The Duke did all he could to keep the people calm and content. In this he was mostly successful due to the trust he had gained from years of faithful and wise rulership. When after months of the ongoing siege in the dead of night a messenger arrived without being detected. One of Griffornia's vaulted operatives had arrived with a report for the Duke and his forces. The army of Griffornia were only a few days away. This lifted the spirits of all the Duke's inner circle. When the numbers and composition of the army was given there was gasp of shock. No one expected that the army would be able to grow so large in such a short time. The army on the way to relieve them numbered at 18,000 and armed with some of the best weapons and armor available for massed troops. When asked how much was the King taxing to pay for the army they were once more stupefied. The King had not increased the tax rate at all. Instead he had looked to strengthen his people through vast economic endeavors and infrastructure improvements. This allowed greater wealth to be gained without draining his people of their livelihoods. The operative was sent with a report on the current status of Wingbard's forces and people along with the plans to attack Brochard when Griffornia engaged them in battle.

A few days later after spreading the news to the commanders of the defenders. All forces still left standing inside the city made themselves ready for the coming battle. They were ready to claim their pound of flesh from the monsters that dared to attack them and break the peace that had being gained from the disappearance of Discord. On the morning with the sun to their backs the army of King Garrick arrived. Resplendent in their steel armor and weapons, and at the head of this army like a champion of old stood the Queen herself magnificent and imposing in her armor. Next to her stood the impressive but overshadowed by his wife the King himself. Together they lead the attack upon Brochard and his ilk. The move was slow at first with their siege weapons being used to destroy the opposing siege instrument that Brochard had employed. Once those had been destroyed the army made its move fully committing and charging into the fray. Brochard was fully engrossed in his rival King's attack that he forgot about the city to his back. From the gate came all that remained of the Wingbardy military along with plenty of new recruits from the city. They smashed into the rear of Brochard's camps and cut off his retreat. There was only two options left for this battle death or surrender. It would fall to Brochard to make his choice.

@Questor Here is my contribution for the coming battle.

As you can see I have this written out most to try and get people to vote for [] Plan: Between Hammer and Hard Place since the city counter attack is meant to be the anvil to our hammer.

I actually really like this plan, does what I think we should do and uses the disposable mercenaries in an effective way.

    - [X] Charge!: Brochard is many things, but he's not an idiot. He had to have known you'd try to assist Wingbardy, and he has to have a plan to deal with you. Don't give him time to enact it. Rapidly close with his forces and engage them before they have a chance to try anything.

Okay after digging through the thread these are the unused Omake bonuses that I found:

@Thedudeman400 You have a +10 to use from Eyes Up Guardian and a +15 from Grey Warden.

@masterofmadness You have a +10 to use from the A letter from Father to Son omake.

@Zaratous You have a +10 from the Griffon Versatlity Omake.
Yeah I remembered, just didn't know where to put it. @Questor can I out my +10 the Ballista rolls?

Also:
[X] Plan: HEY BROCHARD, COME AND GET MY RAPID RESPONSE!

[X] Plan: Between Hammer and Hard Place
-[X] Assume defensive formation and advance, slowly
-[X] Rapid Response: Hold them back, keeping them in reserve to plug gaps in the line and respond to changing circumstances.

And I'd like to put my +10 on the Lion knight when they have to do the rapid response.

[X] Plan: Lockstep Legion

Attacking them is much better then waiting for them to attack us. They have siege weapons there* and they will use them, they are in a really bad position to defend themself if we attack and i prefer not to give them more response time then needed which every non charge does give them time to do what they want before they attack that is if they don´t just sit there and use their siege weapons against us.

* i bet that they have more siege weapons than us.

Chargingin leaves us open for a trap, waiting for Brochard to come to us leaves him to finish of Wingbardy and then adjust his battle plans to attack us.
Brochard is most probably martial genius (and we should consider him as such) so i don't think that he will just leave everything and charge at us or leave him self open to the attack.

So we advance slowly and carefully keeping eyes open for traps while being ready to adapt to any new situation.

... they are sieging a city* that doesn´t leave them with much in the way of setting traps without that very likely being used against them by the city.

*that means they need to block all way for the city to get food or people otherwise they aren´t going to win this ever

I'll go with this then as i would rather have some sort of attack then no attack at all.
Waiting for Brochard to attack will as i said leave him time to adjust and attack us while finishing of Wingbardy's.

i like it, but it looks a bit like trying to get the dogs in our army without taking the option.

This also makes it obvious how usefull they would have been if we added them, being able to (relatively) easily deal with both siege weapons and get beyond most fortifications. We'll have to add them sooner or later.

[X] Plan: Lockstep Legion

the "Plan: Between Hammer and Hard Place" is the one that convinces me the least. If we advance SLOWLY aren't we simply giving him the time to hit us with his siege weapons for massive splash damage?

in this specific case the compromise option isn't really that good in my opinion.

We will not falter here. Charge them now and ensure that the knights act as a spine to keep our forces together and moving.

War Dogs

Garrick found himself pacing in his tent as he waited for the other members of this 'important meeting' to finally arrive.

There were many things about this whole thing he didn't like; that it was being held in the dead of night, he didn't know who was coming, and that all he had gotten out of his Spymaster was 'What they have to offer can be very useful', which was as clear as mud. So he was stuck waiting like some inept chick when he could be cuddled up to his wife before this vital battle that will change griffon-kind.

Thankfully for his patience, he heard the shuffling of armor from his guards outside, followed by the claw of Ravenburg that was parting the canvas flap. The stoic avian stepped in and offered only a curt nod of greeting before stepping aside and gesturing for someone to come in.

Garrick had been expecting alot of things, but a massive diamond dog had not been one of them.

The biped's pointed ears brushed the top of the tent as his head swiveled down to look at the king, his fur coat a mix of black and brown that was partly concealed by the worn leather coat he wore. There were no visible weapons, the lamplight flickered off the spikes on his collar and bracelets, as well as his thick glinting claws as he waved..then brought his hand down and offered a halting bow. "Howdy there, Bos-er..yer Kingness. Name's Bowser."

A blueblood would have turned their beak up at his tone, but Garrick knew enough about diamond dogs didn't really understand royalty. This one at least considered him their alpha and tried to show proper appeasement, though both sides weren't sure how to take this. So he chose to just push on and nod. "Hello Bowser. Lord Ravenburg has told me you've something important to speak on."

The canine nodded quickly, lips pulling into a grin and making his teeth semi-visible as he looked to the stiffly standing griffin. "Yeah! Yeah! Gav here says you guys's worrying about some thing that throws super-big rocks, right?"

The king blinked and looked to 'Gav', who was pointedly looking at everywhere but them, then back to Bowser. "Erm...yes, the catapults are a concern. Do you have a solution?"

"Sure!" Bowser brightened. "I got some mutts that're willin' ta come with me and just take care of 'em." Something in his eyes turned devious. "If them griffons set 'em on the ground, us dogs can dig it right out from under their snooty beaks." He looked about to laugh, then coughed into his fist. "Not that your bunch are snooty. Yer good folks."

That was...a surprisingly good idea actually. Garrick rubbed his chin and nodded slowly. "I think that would be a clever idea. I assume you want something in return for your effort."

"Yep! Show us how we can have a pack like you got."

Huh. He hadn't been expecting that. "You mean a kingdom?"

Bowser grinned. "Yeah! Not a big one like yours, yer Kingness, but one that us dogs can make underground." He nodded quickly. "It can be dangerous, so we travel in packs, right?" He waited for the king to nod before continuing. "So I figure if we can getta bunch'a dogs together like yer kingdom thingy, we don't gotta wander around all tha time. And that sounds pretty good ta me!"

Garrick had no idea what kind of society diamond dogs have, but it wouldn't be a bad to try and organize them into some kind of vassal state. And if the metaphorical groundwork started with their literal groundwork, he could live with that. "It sounds good to me too, Bowser. If you help my army, I'll help your people as best as I can."

The canine's grin went from ear to fluffy ear.

----------

Just something I made up for giggles, and to stretch me writing haunches after my time off in December. That, and I like the idea of turning diamond dogs into the ultimate sapper units.

And before I forget, here be me vote:
