Our Boy Gawain's Stats In a Nutshell:
Martial: 14+2+2+1=19
Diplomacy: 13+2+2+2=19
Stewardship: 14+2=16
Learning: 10+2=12
Intrigue: 11+2=13
Piety = 0(?)

Martial and Diplomacy are too good/high to waste Gawain on getting extra buffage, plus if we ever go to war we get 3 Martial Actions anyways, no point.

Stewardship, not necessary, while a 3rd action slot would be nice it's not an extreme burning need atm.

Gawain's Learning stat is hot garbage compared to us (Garrick's Learning is 18, Gabriella's is 14, ffs why is our son Dumber Than Both of Us), and there's SO MUCH stuff we need to research it's not funny. We need to crank this stuff out faster, and the only way that's gonna happen is that Third Slot until Questor finally let's us expand our departments.

Intrigue, while a third option would be nice, we have been making do so far with 2 action slots and occasional overtimes, so that's fine I think?

Piety isn't a great option, like, even if we DO get to have Gawain ROLL for a Piety stat, which would be the best case scenario. The worst case scenario would be us getting a 2nd Piety option BUT Gawain only gets like... a +5 at best in Piety, for a total of 5 in Piety stat that won't even have % success rolls until like much much later in the game, which is JUST NOT WORTH IT rn.

TLDR: Learning is the way to go with Gawain, I wish we could do Intrigue because a Spy Prince is like, awesome sounding, but otoh that happens to be on fire, we need Innovations and we need them cranked out last week.

I've been leaning towards the latter for the sake of balance and simplicity. Though I'm open to suggestions to the contrary.

I mean, I don't think it would imbalance Too Badly if at all (then again game balance, idk her lol), but the idea could be our Sonny Boy flourishing in the Department we put him for experience, and therefore us also applying his Stat into whatever Department of Actions we put him in could Make In-Universe Sense. That's more a, Watsonian explanation of how things are going if you go "by the power of Garrick and Gawain Combined" on a Department or something.

Welp, that's all I can think of to argue for this (Base % + Garrick's % + Gawain's % = Final Base % Success sans Omakes Applied) to become a reality for our empire for at least One Department (nothing to do with my salt about the... Dice Gods' decision on Arcane Agricultural roll, noooooo whatever do you mean... *sweats nervously*), time to roll the Dice. X3 <33333

.... I just realized something...

Our daughters are now teenagers... And that means boys...

BREAK OUT THE BOOMSTICKS GUYS!! TIME FOR SOME FATHERLY INTIMIDATION!!

We must make sure no boys take an undue interest in our baby girls and those they do are made very aware of how lucky they are and what we will do if they fuck it up or, god forbid, make them cry.....

I think our wife might want in on this action... Maybe come in and give the poor foolish unworthy male a hint of hope that she might restrain us before crushing it....

Alright we should gather some information on House Storm to see what kind of internal problems they could be dealing with, and perhaps find out how the Queen was assassinated as well.

How about we go towards what our sons strength are. He has a 19 in both deplomacy and martial so i think he should do one of those. I personally think diplomacy would be better since we have so many new culture we need to vist.

[X]Diplomacy: As his friendship with Ki Seong has shown, Gawain has no difficulty bridging cultural divides and forging connections with individuals of differing backgrounds; valuable skills for a head of state and diplomat alike. Gisa could always use another helping talon managing the growing number of foreign delegations and embassies she has been placed in charge of. Gawain should fit right in.

[X] Learning: As a former student of Archimedes, Gawain already possesses all the necessary attributes of a scholar and researcher. What better place to have him work than alongside his former mentor in the act of benefiting the Empire's knowledge base?

-The Hardbeak Line: The architects and engineers of the Imperial Army have drawn up plans for a line of "star forts" to be constructed South of the Crystal City, intended to serve as a defensive line against any potential Maretonian aggression. Naturally, the construction and maintenance of these forts is going to be expensive, and they're not going to be built overnight. Still, if you're looking to build modern fortresses to defend your Protectorate, it's the best plan you've got. The recent completion of the Crystal Line has made such an endeavor cheaper and easier, though still nothing to sneeze at. Cost: 2200. Time: Two Years. Reward: Hardbeak Line Constructed using new fortification techniques. Southern Border Secured.

After many months of hard work on the parts of countless laborers, carpenters, masons and architects in the employ of civilian firms and the military, the Hardbeak Line is finally completed. Half a dozen star forts and over a dozen fortified watchtowers and signaling stations, all connected by a network of roads and bridges crisscrossing the previously unmarked plains to the South of the Crystal City. With their walls manned by hundreds of garrison troops and bearing dozens of mounted cannons and ballistae, the Hardbeak Line is a nearly impenetrable wall of stone and steel guarding your Southern Border with what was once a unified Maretonia.

When the borders are secured just right.

the followers of the Crystal Heart are now as militant as those of any other major religion.
Influence Level: 2.5 (Strengthed Crystal Heart)
....We made the OP even more OP.....
Our daughters are now teenagers... And that means boys...
How is it that EVERY MEMBER OF THE IMPERIAL FAMILY IS GORGEOUS EXCEPT FOR GWYNDOLYN!?!?

@Markala, I was torn between Intrigue, and Learning, but you convinced me to go with my heart. I do so love things! I'm sure this isn't also some scheme to get Gawain to spend more time with Mr. Merlin.

[X] Learning: As a former student of Archimedes, Gawain already possesses all the necessary attributes of a scholar and researcher. What better place to have him work than alongside his former mentor in the act of benefiting the Empire's knowledge base?

Nah we would just kidnap them then tell them they can choose their fate they can either fight hardbeak in combat or walk through an alley way with ravensburg all will be painful and all will end in death.

Don't worry, powers of arranged marriage make sure every candidate has to go through us first.

huh, so did the refugees make new villages in the crystal empire or did they just move into the city and some moving into the griffon empire? Mostly just wondering if the crystal empire is still basically just a waste land with nothing in but a massive city state in the middle with some forts along its boarders or if it actually has some villages out there now?

[X] Intrigue: When you began your rule, you had no idea just how important your spies and intelligence agents would become to the security and functioning of your domain. If Gawain is to one day become an effective ruler, he must have first-hand experience with the Empire's...less obvious means of influencing events.

Are our friends friends with each other? What would you even call a qilin and griffon hybrid?

Too Easy: ...Griffin. (Unless that's what we call our people now, tbf it's hard to keep track of what we use considering the different ways to spell it, Griffon, Gryphon, Griffin, Gryffin...)

Or Qilffin (Kill-fin, often mispronounced as 'Quill-fin'). The hybrids would have higher fertility rates at the cost of shorter lifespans than Qilin, but still live much longer than Griffon's.

Fairly certain any name that comes up from a possible hybrid of the two - natural or magically-induced - would be an entirely new name rather than a mere portmanteau.

Edit: Actually, I FINALLY found a hybrid that is similar to a hybrid between a Qilin and Gryphon!

Mušḫuššu

Mušḫuššu is a draconic creature of Babylonian Mythology. While not being very well-known itself, it gave rise to the Hydra, and consequentially the Hydra Constellation. It was defeated by the prophet Daniel through poisoning in the Biblical Book of Daniel. It has a draconic appearance, with a...

It's a Mušḫuššu and it is a Babylonian creature that is described as being a mix of a lion, eagle, and horned dragon! Mind you, to fit the setting, we would have to come up with a different name, but I am glad to have finally found something after that conversation about whether such a hybrid has ever appeared in mythology a month or so ago.

EDIT-EDIT: Wait, no. That might not fit this quest's version of Qilin. I keep having to remind myself that they aren't supposed to look like OTL Chinese qilin.

Still would be the absolute closest thing we could find. Nice find man~!
What do you think @Questor ?
