a fun alternative can of course be that we make it... detrimental to ones health... to own a griffin

our spies have done a good job so far in finding literally every slave owner of notice

we just make sure that one dies every week until all slaves are released.

one grenade in the middle of the night and poof, problem gone.

time to do a ceasar

we pay the ransom. nice as pie

then we invade and put the entire nation to the torch

im not even joking. i will categorically support nailing these fucks to a wall if it so takes generations
I mean we aren't Caesar, don't want to be like him either. Knives don't look good sticking out of us.
We will have... other methods of dealing with these slave-drivers. I wouldn't be opposed to torching some of their places, though that option has not yet presented itself :(

I 100% agree with you. A Caesar would be awesome, and the satisfaction of destroying the smarmy pricks would be so great. We pay, get our people, turn around, take it back as we conquer them and destroy their slave based culture.

Let's put these bastards to the torch. First we inform our allies, then in a joint alliance we fucking burn their little pirate haven to the ground. free every slave in it, and kill every pirate lord before saving our people with the help of the anti-slavery ponies.. Let's show these fucking horrid ass excuses of nobles why you don't fuck with us. Hell, if they've pissed off other nations, we should ally with them for a bit.

They need to learn one of the core truths of this world. That freedom is the right of every sapient being, that people are not property.

For this plan we need:
-To get our allies to help us AND more Anti-Magic Equipment so we can counter their magic.
-Ravenburg and co. helping out the anti-slavery group.
-Knowledge on if the bastards have any enemies who'd be willing to ally themselves with us.

We pay, we ACKNOWLEDGE that life has a price. We play by their rules. Wed say they are right in allowing slaves to be traded.

I will not have ANY PART IN THAT.

Tough decision but ultimately I don't want to give any satisfaction to these slaving ponies we will go the long way to deal with this.

Isn't it their goal to have us pay for our people to be brought back?
Besides, we'd have to get rid of the pirate's den first, since I'm sure the slavers aren't wary of using privateers.
Also, I don't like how y'all are talking like this war would be easy. They have all kinds of ponies and we don't have all that much black steel, and logistics are gonna be a bit overextended with the Crystal Protectorate still rebuilding.

Yeah, the choice is obvious. We're not paying any slaver fucks a single silver. Ready the army, Redbeak!

[X] Bear Any Burden: The easy choice and the right choice are usually not the same. You could pay the ransom. But what message would that send to the Maretonians? To other nations and peoples? Do you want everyone to believe that kidnapping your citizens is a route to a quick payday? That such actions will be rewarded, and not punished? These Citizens may go free now, but what of those that may be taken in the future? No. Simply paying their ransom is unacceptable. It may be cruel to delay their release, but your enslaved brethren are in no danger: they have become too valuable to be worked to death on some plantation, or killed for the public's amusement in some gladiatorial arena. No slaveowner would allow their "investment" to come to harm when the possibility of a fat payout exists...or when the threatened retribution of a foreign Empire hangs over their heads. Send Olive Branch and his party packing. You will find another way to get your people back. New Options Unlocked.

Yeah if we pay the price they want all it will do is encourage them to take more citizens. Our only option is to bear the burden.

Oh, I know itll be a hard war if we do go to war. But I also want to abide by our principles.

If anything, at least getting a message to our people to try and hold out would be good... I'm sure they'll try to demoralize them through words like, "your emperor doesnt even care enough about you to pay a trifling sum to get you back. Hohoho!" But if we can just say "hold out, were doing our best." To em...

It's a tough choice. A hard choice. But one we'll have to make. And for this, I refuse compromise.

They seem to believe that we aren't prepared to risk our citizens over petty things like morality. Let us remind them that no life lost in the service of a noble cause goes unforgotten.

This is a rough call... Despite how much Olive Branch seems to want to tank negotiations. Are we willing to risk war so soon? Taking the deal, despite how bad it is, is still bearable, a huge pain, but bearable. And would end this as quickly and peacefully as possible.

That said... Everything about Mareatona makes it really clear that these idiots need a wake up call. We pay the ransom and it's pretty clear that this is all going to happen again. And will keep happening until Mareatona learns to respect potential threats.

I'm more leaning toward 'no', mostly because we actually have a lot options here, especially with the shake up between their Queen and the Wealthy Nobles. If we kill the Nobles holding our citizens prisoner, Queen Mareia can start consolidating her power in the vacuum, framing the whole thing as a 'You should have listened to me~' from her.

Plus, we have the list of Targets and Hostages. pulling off a series of assassinations seems actually pretty plausible, especially with how well our Spys have been doing. Sneaking in a few Orichalcum clad assassins to steamroll any magical defense they might have and cleaning house sounds well within our purview.

So Ancient Rome, huh? If anything I have learned form being a geek of history, is that a society and economy based on slaves can be easily threatened by such slaves.

In other words, Let's Create Or Own Goddamn Spartacus.

now don't take this the wrong way.

i want to destroy this nation in it's entirety. if aanyone wants to know what maretonia WAS 10 years from now, they will have to look in a history book.

and here is how i think we do it best.

we spend EVERYTHING WE HAVE to build our artillery and navy
we use our spies to ONLY free the griffin slaves. NO ASSASSINATIONS.
we make sure that the nobles get pissed enough to start a civil war.
then, in the following chaos, we invade.

I'm thinking we should pull a Julius Ceaser here. Pay these bitches their money, then show up next season with an army to collect our returns ... plus interest.

With the way the winds are blowing, getting the yaks unified and allied seems all the more important. I dont want to come off as 'we only want you United to toss bodies on the pile', but if we can unite them and politely ask to borrow that GIANT MOUND OF ORICHALCUM they are sitting on...

Also, just in case the refuse demand does go through, that doesnt immediately equate to instant war. We can still do intrigue actions and conquer those pirates first before messing around with the situation down below. Getting the abolitionist movement some steam first sounds like something we should be doing next turn.
