We really need to fund more basic research. We got a lot of immediately usefull discoveries, but some simply require time and you don't get anything usefull IMMEDIATELY.

@Questor An idea for after the war, but maybe we could create and fund some general research institution (i think the term is blue sky research?), and this would get us one or more research rolls per turn (maybe depending on how much we pay for its upkeep), with a cost that grows exponentially (100=1 roll, 200=2 rolls, 400=3 rolls, 800=4 rolls..). After a certain number of successes (maybe with DC starting really high (even 100 or higher) and slowly decreasing with every roll to slow us from easily getting too far in developing purely theoretical knowledge, we unlock a learning action to actually translate it to practical.

Example: after 5 successes (starting DC 100, goes down by 4 after every roll, minimum 50) allowing basic understanding of what electricity IS and what its properties are, someone comes to us with the idea of using watermills/steam engines/whatever to produce it and store it for later use.

OR

Example 2: after 8 successes in studying how diseases actually work(starting DC 105, goes down by 5 after every roll, minimum 40), someone comes up with the idea of voluntarily infecting people with a lighter form of a disease to "strenghten them" against the real deal. Vaccination research unlocked!

Investments into education could give bonuses to these rolls, and some special actions might give free rolls in specific categories (for example 1 free "medical research" roll from our "Office of Disease Control", or a free "economic research" roll from our central bank.

Uh, when i started writing my proposal was much simpler :p
I'll consider it. Thank you for the suggestion, I really do appreciate the input.

Finally got a chance to read the thread. Looks like we got a proper battle on our hands! Very exciting. I'm kind of glad we haven't gotten to making orichalcum swords yet, since that means that if we can get through this fight we'll be able to have the element of surprise with them during the invasion. Not that five people with anti-magic weapons will literally win the battle all on their own, element of surprise or not, but every little bit helps.

I'm actually pretty worried about this battle, despite how the situation isn't actually that unfavorable, but I'm just trying to see silver linings here. Now then, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go and work on a sacrifice to the dice gods.

ah. Come back to my computer to find it had shut down and my Omake word files gone and unrecoverable. And that Sombra has decided to attack at this moment. DOUBLE FUN. At least the one I was working on had a backup thats only... half there.

Suppose as a last resort we could try letting one of the lines fall and then blow the central fortress up... if that could be set up. Then pincer formation to the middle. But that would be an absolute last resort.

I doubt he could pull an invasion with normal foot soldiers on this scale again though, if we manage to pull through. Just... DAMN.

Since the 12h moratorium is over...

[x] Plan Tunnelworks

[x] Equal Distribution: Divide your Army into three equal segments and dispatch each to defend its own segment of the line.

[x] One Wall, One Order: You have three strongpoints to defend and three Knightly orders. The course of action is obvious.
-[x] The Knights Lion take the Center, where Sombra himself is most likely to appear.

[x] Command and Control: You shall remain at the command post of Mt. Saker, the best place to coordinate the actions of units in multiple locations. This will also separate you from the frontline, with everything that that entails.

[x] Separated by War: You shall send Gabriella to a different location than your own (specify).
-[x] Western Flank

[x] Special orders:
-[x] Since the Diamond Dogs can use the tunnels to move between battlefields, assign them as a rapid response force and a few of the fastest ones as messengers.
-[x] If he thinks he can do it before the second wave, have Karl Kaboom and half of your Diamond Dogs prepare an underground surprise for Sombra's siege abominations. Maybe a trench that'll only collapse under their lumbering weight? That would be quick to set up and give your artillery stationary targets.

[X]Plan we don't play favourites

How do you distribute your soldiers?

-[x] Equal Distribution: Divide your Army into three equal segments and dispatch each to defend its own segment of the line.

How shall you deploy the Knights?

[X] One Wall, One Order: You have three strongpoints to defend and three Knightly orders. The course of action is obvious.

Where Shall You Go?

[X] Lead from the Front: You shall take direct command at one of the three fronts (specify which). Your presence will boost the morale of your troops, but it will be harder to coordinate the different units, or to keep yourself informed of the larger strategic picture.

What Shall Gabriella Do?

[X] Separated by War: You shall send Gabriella to a different location than your own (specify).

Do you wish to give any special/additional orders?

[X] Every front will get a different Knight Order, and one our most important/inspirational leaders to take control of the local battlefield: Emperor Garrick in the middle, Empress Gabriella in the left and Konrad Hardbeak (THE KINGSLAYER) in the right (obviously with his own knight order). The Diamond Dogs will be kept as a rapid response unit, taking advantage of their tunnels to quickly go where needed. The fastest of them will have the task of passing messages between the forts, trying to keep the commanders updated on what's happening on the others battle sites.

Damn we should had taken those swords
If Sombra is not fighting melee himself it probably won't matter much. They would have probably given a bonus at fighting rolls for our hero units, but they should hopefully stay behind the walls. If we're lucky the army won't get beyond the walls, and our artillery and archers will take care of everything.

(yes, i'm an optimist, i know)
I think we can all agree that the cannons should focus fire down the monstrosities first right.
of course. After all i doubt archers would do much more that irritate them. Maybe we can have a few using scatter shots when the infantry gets too close, but the majority should aim at the monsters.

We don't want them to break the walls.

might be better to use the ballistas on them unless they huddled together. I mean we are using the cannon balls that explode right? it's probably better to use them to aim for hight troop concentrations to eliminate the enemy's number advantage as quickly as we can and have the less explosive but far more accurate ballistas aim for the monstrosities and other high value targets.

i don't think we have exploding cannonballs. We have standard ones, and scatter shot for close/concentrated infantry

After a great deal of trial and error, your head scientist and engineer claims to have devised a simple but reliable method involving numerous grape-sized metal balls packed into a canvas bag. Unfortunately, due to its nature this particular payload is virtually useless at long range, restricting its use somewhat. However, at close range it will utterly devastate massed enemy formations. You instruct Archimedes to add several of these scatter-shot rounds to each cannon's ammunition load. You're sure you'll have need of them soon enough

[X] Plan pincer
-[X] Stronger Flanks
-[X] One Wall, One Order
-[X] Command and Control
-[X] Separated by War
--[X] In the center, with orders to retreat before being overwhelmed.

i'm pretty sure the Diamond Dogs are already part of individual companies/units/whatever, no need to single them out.

This one is a better choice because it allows us to use our communication assets better. Not to mention it makes us use our genius to the best of our ablity in organizing and commanding instead of being cut off and in danger on a front line position.
