Mathilde is going to rest and wrap things up before she embarks on anything, and while it might be relatively short for Mathilde, it probably wouldn't be for us.
Ah. I was trying to say more that being a Noble or Loremaster would be subject to turns and it would only be affected for one of those turns by overwork, whereas the vacation, which would be at least as long update count wise as this expedition, would suffer in its entirety because it would stretch over the time of like, half an usual turn instead of one update, as it would be with the others. If that is not the case, then okay. Was just not sure.

@pucflek
But this is really just my general thoughts.
We're not suffering from overwork in my opinion.
We are overworked mechanically. We took a non-free Overwork action last turn to polish Rite of Way. Next turn, T34, we have a -10 to all actions. So we would want to rest that off before going to Nagarythe.

I would strenuously oppose Nagarythe anyway, because we just came back from three RL months of expedition, and launching into a new adventure immediately sounds miserable. Let's give ourselves time to get bored with normal turns before we go on adventure turns again. That way, Nagarythe will make for a fun splash of novelty in between our new status quo, instead of tons more adventure after 30 updates of that.

@BoneyM Would looking for a solution to have children without cheating on Panoramia go under '[-] Research Sabbatical', require a write-in or seem a feasible spare time side project? Ulgu may not be the ideal wind to making an unorthodox pairing capable of reproducing. But as they say, "only the mother is certain".

I have mixed feelings about the Waystone project. It might be the most important possibility on a grand scale, but I'm not sure it would be the most fun to play out. I guess the initial investigation will give a better idea what the day to day of doing the job would look like, and what we might see in terms of near-term and mid-term objectives.

I'll be looking at the options mostly in the context of specifically the current vote and leave overall pros and cons of the job itself out for now, instead just mentioning whether I like or dislike the actual job fleetingly.

[ ] Loremaster-at-Large of Karak Eight Peaks

Investigating this is probably the fastest and most surefire way to talk about our being declared a Dwarf. Regarding the job itself, we'd be able to gauge Belegar's enthusiasm for this, see if he already has any ideas lined up for our first mission and see whether there will be resources aiding our job and budget coming from other Karaks too or whether it is more about King Belegar providing a "gift" (speak favor exchange and prestige accumulation) to the Karaz Ankor. And maybe, just maybe if BoneyM willing, we could also bring up the Archmage thing.

As for the actual job, I'm undecided, but tend towards no if it would mean definitely depriving K8P of an actual Loremaster in exchange for giving them what amounts to a supercool diplomat.

[ ] The Waystone Project

This could go so many ways, because it isn't exactly a job one person or party would be hiring us for. The "sniffing out" part could be as little as asking King Belegar if he thinks its time and what resources he is willing to spare, to as much as doing the complete round trip of K8P, KaK, Laurelorn and Altdorf to gauge everyone's extend of participation they are willing to provide. It could also include a more in depth need to know education on the current College knowledge regarding the subject and maybe even the first poking that is done in order to learn instead of in order to turn off and on again.

This is currently my favorite, but others are in the running.

[ ] Markgraf of Eastern Stirland

We'd meet up with Roswita and discuss the current situation, the extent of our powers and the things she hopes to see as a result. We might also hear about alternate candidates both for this position and the various counties below it. And maybe a first suggestion for Council members, like for instance whether Kasmir would want to switch to us with Roswita's blessing.

I don't know how interested in this option or the one right below it. On the one hand it would go very much into traditional CK2 Quest territory, on the other I did kind of get hyped up a bit by the in thread chatter.

[ ] Count of Sylvania

Probably a rundown of the pros and cons of the various counties plus an answer to why she is offering it to us in the first place. Also, see above.

[ ] Spymaster of Wissenland

Above all, we'd get to know the EC of Wissenland. We'd also find out just how bad the situation there is and maybe what alternative ideas he has to deal with it should we decline. Even if we don't care at all about the job, it would still be valuable to see the status of this new off-screen counter that is being put next to the Canal/Marienburg one.

I don't much feel like tackling Skaven right now, though I'm sure my enthusiasm would grow again were I to be immersed in it.

[ ] Ambassador-at-Large to the Karaz Ankor

I personally have many questions about just how this job would look. What kind of staff would we have? What kinds of job would we do routinely and what would be the exception? What resources could we call on? How impactful must a treaty get before we have to ask our superiors before signing? What are the current flashpoints? Especially the last one might be of interest even if we choose a different job, like Tutor, Spymaster, or anything that has us remain in K8P.

This one is probably my second choice. And because it is so completely different from Waystone Research it is really difficult to compare the two.

[ ] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred

The second Imperial Politics option. This one closer to home, with less official power but potentially more soft power and freedom. No matter what, we should definitely learn just what Heidi is up to that she wants our help with. We'd also learn details like pay and official responsibilities, which only matter if we take the job. And I guess we also learn what personality traits the young prince has managed to develop this early into his life.

Another job I'm interested in doing, though more directly comparable to the one right above.

[ ] Governor-General of Swamp Town

I too am really curious what the hell is going on over there and who suggested us for the job, so I'd really like us to vote for it in this phase, even if I have pretty much zero interest in actually taking the job. Not much else to say here.

[ ] Ranaldian High Priest of Kislev

We might learn what this is actually about, what Lijliana was talking about regarding Ranald's debt, and how the higher echelons of the Cult of Ranald even work, let alone what a High Priest's day job would be. All stuff that could interest us regardless of what we do and especially if we pick a governorship option and might want to hire a Priest of Ranald into the Faith position.

Job wise it seems the one with the most freedom to act in the day to day, and the one that potentially allows us to pick up an additional hat sooner rather than later. A High Priest of Ranald can still aid the Karaz Ankor or become a Border Princess. Probably also shuts a massive amount of other doors thought.

[ ] Border Princess of the Howling River

This would pretty much just be meeting the king of Barak Varr and talking logistics, terrain and strategy. Nothing that would be useful if we don't pick this option and little that would persuade people that are already for or against this option to switch position. In my opinion even people that like becoming a Border Princess could skip the preliminary investigation phase for something more juicy.

Myself I am only barely interested, even if I knew what I'd want to do if we take this job.

So. All that said, I'll be withholding my vote till later, where I will bolster the bottom half of the options, except for Border Princess and Sylvanian Count (not Markgraf).

[X] Loremaster-at-Large of Karak Eight Peaks

I don't truly plan on voting for this, but like a lot of other offers on this list I want to hear the offer Belegar will give us. If he's got a couple new tasks lined up for completion I'd be willing to consider it, simply because this is the closest thing to a Status Quo vote I'd accept.

[X] Markgraf of Eastern Stirland

I'm interested in this, it's a position that we can fill as long as we want, or beg out of as soon as we're finished. I want to remind everyone of our timeline and Mathilde's age. Right now she's around 38, very young as far as wizards of our skill go. Because of that I don't want an end of life position where we work on our opus or start building a home and legacy. Count of Sylvania falls into the latter for me, we'd be trading the size of our task and power for the sake of a title we don't have progeny to pass onto.

[X] Ambassador-at-Large to the Karaz Ankor

Again, I'm willing to hear the offer, specifically to get a feel for what the quest pace and format would be in this position. The arcs of this quest I most enjoy are the ones that have multiple problems in need of solving roughly simultaneously; our early years in Stirland, or securing K8P. If this position involves tangible issues that Mathy can solve through blade or spell or skullduggery or politics, I'd be interested. If it's just hanging around places of power adding our boni to The Chancellor of the Seal while we chase down vague ambitions, which I fear it is, than pass.

[X] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred

See Ambassador-at-Large. If the bulk of the quest will become actively or reactively solving threats to the Prince's life or soul, then I could be convinced, but if this is just an excuse to play around in Imperial Politics, then hard pass.

*Edit* after @veekie's comment below I've rethought this position, and while I stand by it he made the very good point that this could be a bit of a break option we could raise a child or train an apprentice during.

[X] Governor-General of Swamp Town

This is, from the outset, my preferred option. It matches what I most enjoy about this quest very well; solving multiple, highly dangerous problems in a freeform manner for the sake of a dangerous endeavor, with a side dosing of Deep Lore. I know people would miss being able to take social actions with anyone in the Old World at will, but personally those actions are secondary to my enjoyment of the shenanigans and skullduggery an option like this lends itself to.

[X] Ranaldian High Priest of Kislev

Starting to feel like a broken record, but again, if there're tangible problems to be solved to promote Ranald, I could be convinced, but it'll be filling a "Ranaldian acceptance" progress bar while pursuing our own agenda, pass.

[X] Border Princess of the Howling River

My second favorite option out of the gate, for much of the same reasons as Governor-General of Swamp Town. We have a problem, secure Mad Dog Pass, and we'll have many smaller problems to solve and quests to go on to that effect. Not truly anywhere new or exotic, like Swamp Town, but people will still be able to Social at our current pace, and keep involved in Imperial and Dwarven drama.

What I don't care to learn more about:

Waystones: I hate research quests with all my being, and dedicating potentially dozens of turns to research sounds so boring. I have faith @BoneyM won't just make it the the standard "stand around and fill progress bars with the occasional flavor text", and if we've certainty the quest will regularly involve problems or roadblocks solved in any way other than just sitting in our tower rolling experiment or research dice, I might not hate it, but it still lends itself to the format I like least of all options.

Additionally I consider this another one of those end of life/quest options. Say we finish it, and spit in chaos' eye or whatever in fiction effects people think it'll have, but what then? What adventures do we go on after ushering in a new golden age? What problems in need of solving will be big enough to be worth our time? Now, I can see parlaying Waystones into becoming Matriarch or even Supreme Matriarch, with all the plot hooks that go with it, but I want to engage in some of these Lord Magister plot hooks before promoting ourselves to a higher level. I'd rather keep putting feathers in our hat, earn more and better perks that can help Waystones, get more knowledge and lore, and then do Waystones as our resume for Matriarch.

Sylvanian Count: I already touched on this, but the only reasons to take this over Markgraf are the smaller scope (hubris is a cowards word!) and it's inheritability. Right now we don't have any progeny or apprentices that could inherit, and while this feels like an option to change that, I'd rather the focus of this quest not be homemaking.

Spymaster of Wissenland: TBH this feels like a horizontal promotion at best, a demotion back councils politics in a human county with fewer agency at worst. Ultimately it's got a lot of elements that just feel like diet versions of other options. Not interested.

I'm hoping that we can figure out how to tap into Waystones so that Mathilde can make a grand sorcerous working, like enchanting a castle to teleport wherever we want.

[X] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred
[X] Border Princess of the Howling River

Main preferences:
-Waystone - Big, world changing research project. Find out what it'd take and see if we want to quietly lay some groundwork first or just dive in.

-Bodyguard/Tutor - I'm actually fairly interested in using this as a 'break' time to raise an apprentice and mentor a child in the ways of squirrely thinking, and also I suppose its actually a pretty good way to convey our Liber Mortis derived tactics to someone who can both use it and not ask difficult questions about how we know it.

-Border Princess - Differently world changing, but I'd genuinely be interested in how feasible this is with the resources that can be rustled up. If not for a Now project, then perhaps the next time.

The only one I'm against is High Priest of Ranald, but thats a personal preference for Pious Wizard story over Priest who's also a wizard story.

I'm voting for a fairly wide selection of things since this is the information gathering part, and I want information about some of the jobs that I don't intend to vote for anyway.
