[X] Spymaster of Wissenland
All these anti-skaven Martial traits, and here's a job running the War Below.

Interested in seeing how the Imperial approach to that works.

I made a big effect post pointing out all the skills and traits we have that make mathy one of the best anti-vampire fighters/counter-espionage agents in the empire.

you dont have to like an option, but don't pretend that mathy won't be very, very, very good at the job.
Being an anti-vampire fighter/counter-espionage agent is not what a leader of a realm should be doing.

I don't mind continuing to work with the dwarves and be useful. But I'm also kind of interested in seeing if we can actually pacify Sylvania on our own. It's a callback to our roots, and the most final way we could pay our respects to our first Count. And then there were all those mysteries in Kislev that I'm very curious about.

One assumes that between the Grey College knowing the results of our Magister test and his mother the intrigue expert they had improved the situation. If the only way to fix palace security someone should really take that up with the Imperial spymaster stat.
Improved, sure, it'll be a process of constant improvement (except when experienced guards die). But one of his mother's attempts to improve it is to hire Mathilde.

Something you're saying is blatantly unnecessary because his mother will have come up with a way to improve security sufficiently to keep out a teleporting Eshin shadow-mage.

This one is an oddity. The others, you can follow the logic as to why it was offered to you, specifically. But why Swamp Town? Are things there so drastic they need a powerful Wizard to get it under control? Is something particularly magical going on there? Has it become a haven for Black Magisters? Whatever the case, if you want mysteries and adventure, there's few places like the New World for encountering both on a regular basis.

I know it's astonishingly unlikely, but I'm sorta picturing that the Imperials at Swamp Town already bumbled themselves into an alliance with the Lizardmen, and the previous Governor-General straight up quit at the absurdity of the situation.

Cue a few weeks later and the Emperor needs to find a new leader for the town with proficiency in military matters and the ability to deal with the strange, poorly understood magic lizards, and Dragomas remembers the recently promoted Lady Magister Weber with her xeno-affinity as demonstrated by her deep understanding of Dwarves and Skaven and just slides on in there.

And so Mathilde shows up for the job and is immediately shoved before skink priests by the confused locals.

Fair point. I still value his life less than I do waystone improvements, but I can see how others will think differently.

Before we would be tasked by the empress to oversee the war below because fellow Ranaldians at Altdorf are complaining about ratmen taking their profits.

In general? True. In Sylvania? Oh yeah, that's exactly what's needed. The way I see this working is that Matty, plus whoever's in martial/intrigue keeps the vampires out and the gribblies dead, while steward/learning/diplo take care of the prosperity part. Even then, she still has ways to contribute there, thanks to the EIC.

I'd just like to point out how frustrating and awkward it would be for Belegar if we left on sabbatical for 4 months and came back to say "I quit". We'd be denying him a loremaster for a turn out of pure indecisiveness.

EDIT: If we do end up picking Elfcation I really hope we have the option of quitting before we go.

And... It's technically right but lacks a lot of context. Aaargh... I do hope the High King eventually comes clean to us.
I hope so, too, but I doubt it. More likely, Mathilde will eventually investigate what the High King could even be doing with all the energy. After all, a single, small Karag produced enough to maintain a stable and flexible bridge between Chaos and Mundus. The amount of energy sent to Karaz a Karak is many times that.
Note that even if Hedi wants to use us for something else we will at least have to do enough toddler minding to offer cover which to my mind at least is still too much toddler minding.
So we will be teaching him how to count apples and how to spell instead of potty train.

Hyperbole aside five years old may not be as boring as a literal toddler, but they are still not the sort of people you explain the complexities of politics or the mysteries of the universe to.
Aside from your posts being unnecessarily exaggerated and polemic, I agree that teaching a 5 year old (is he really that young still?) is not that interesting.

1) My ideal result would be doing a short project before this post. (research or skaven hunting)
2) I think the literal tutoring and body guarding will be the smallest part of what we are doing on this post. He won't need yet another bodyguard at home, so those jobs will be mostly during specific events or on diplomatic visits to interesting places. I assume much of the job will be about more generally being a special agent in the nominal service of Mandred, though probably also more generally in the name of the crown or (less officially) in the name of Heidi, Ranald and whatever Mathilde feels like.
3) I don't think this needs to be a full-time job, at least for the first few years. As such, we could probably at least assist another project in between, similar to how she went after Alzheimer or went on the expedition just now.
Heidi is the Empress; she can get her kid the best bodyguards and babysitters money and power can buy. If she's managed to survive in a Vampire court pretending to be one for at least a decade, then she should be able to account for any threats to Mandred short of an invasion
Which is part of why I don't think physically guarding or taking care of him will not be our main job. The other being that I don't think standing around and waiting for something to happen for weeks and months is either something which BoneyM would write or something which Mathilde would tolerate.
You seem to be reading a hell of a lot into it, the imperial Court has people for all of that.
It seems far more likely to get us wrapped up with Heidi's mess and I really don't want to have to deal with that, shes our friend but its arguable if she's a good person
I don't think these are necessarily what will happen, but I'm saying that there is a lot of potential beyond just court politics, guarding and teaching. I consider this the special agent choice and think that everything Agent 007 might get involved in to be fair game.

I'm also very much suspicious of Heidi. I think she has the potential to be as much of an antagonist as she is an ally. Personally, I wouldn't mind involving ourselves in that mess.

There's no way @BoneyM gave us this option just to make us a babysitter for 10 years lol.
Agreed. Also, how old is Mandred? 5 or 10?
We are in effect his school principal not his teacher and this is quite an infantilizing comment.
Not even principal, I'd consider her to be the general dogsbody/odd-jobs many. Body guard, teacher, cool aunt, special agent, advisor of everything martial, political, dwarf, magical or occult…

[X] Loremaster-at-Large of Karak Eight Peaks
This lets Mathield continue to help K8P and continue her courting of Pan
[X] The Waystone Project
Has the potential to unearth one of the greatest secrets of Malthus and lets Mathield continue to court Pan
[X] Ambassador-at-Large to the Karaz Ankor
Same as above but more interaction with the mountains bros
[X] Bodyguard and Tutor to Prince Mandred
One of the most noticeable ways to influence the future of the empire and to help raise Not!Karl Franz
[X] Nagarythe
For the time investment of maybe six months, this probably has the best payoff, plus Mathield might get to interact with Teclis sempai!!
