I also just want to point out how good Thorgrim was here. I am not sure if he heard what we did or not but he realized that lofty promises would convince no one and that they are more likely to shoot that talk and what does he do? He marches himself right in front of their gate and asks them to tell him all the wrongs that were committed so that he may make the book of grudges more accurate. And once that is done? How many can be striked out.

It is the "tell them the inglorious truth" strategy once more only done in such a way that is rooted in dwarf culture while also fulfilling his job as High King of recording all grudges.

I'll admit reading this I think I get the catharsis of the grudge system.

how do they know so much about the wizard when Mathilde and company left nearly right away? did their scouts watch the whole thing from the shadows?
Protector side of Ranald's Coin means that whenever Mathilde does something to protect someone, said someone gains awareness of it and sincere belief that she protected purely because It Was A Right Thing To Do.

Earlier, we didn't know what's the extent of this mental influence; now, we know, and apparently Ranald does not fuck around.

Ranald's Coin: A somehow four-sided coin dedicated to the four faces of Ranald.
Ranald's Coin is worn showing one of its four faces. During normal turns, you can choose which face you will be showing.
- The Gambler: A +20 bonus to up to two dice rolls affiliated with a chosen action.

- The Night Prowler: As long as you are outside of private property and within a town or city, nobody will question your presence and nobody will be able to find you if you do not wish them to. For non-human population centres, will work if it's not completely unknown for humans to be present, or if you are disguised as that species.
- The Deceiver: Lies you have developed beforehand will be delivered perfectly. The listener may believe you to be mistaken, but they will never believe that you are lying. Cannot be used to tell truths.
- The Protector: When you act in a way that defends an individual or group from a danger that you did not cause, they will become aware of what you have done and will believe you acted selflessly in doing so.
Set to Protector.

Ah, yes. I was more giving the maximum amount of dwarves inhabiting a Karak. That two thirds survived a 180 year siege of chaos is beyond a miracle.
Chaos was not seriously trying to murder them. They were using them as toys, so to speak. Then we came along and wrecked their game.
The population of the Karaz Ankor is about one million Dwarves, give or take. Karak Vlag didn't really have a 'Silver Age' since it was so far from the Empire, it was only really starting to benefit from relations with Kislev when it got yoinked. So it was the least populous of the Major Holds even before Asavar Kul.
It is still a Major Hold. A human saved a Major Hold, and did it mostly singlehandedly. That is bound to have massive political impact. At this point Mathilde alone can probably be used to justify the Dwarf/Empire Alliance.

I sincerely think that the Dwarf didn't give a **** and just wanted more Grudges for his book. The risk of them forever fortifying was worth ensuring that they would, somehow, be avenged.

Yeah that amount of Dwarfs I was expecting maybe a quarter of the original population a third at best not a full two thirds. Man this makes this expedition even weirder than I thought given its original goal is untenable but it accomplished a fantastic amount of secondary goals. And I wasn't expecting the protector to be that effective.
The entire expedition could have died thrice over and Karaz Ankor still would consider it a miraculous, beyond-belief-smashing success solecy because Vlag.

There was also an elf on a dragon, which probably caused Dawi to go ???.

And said Dawi now somehow all have basic awareness of how dangerous (and why) being a Wizard is, which is likely to be interesting.

If he just wanted grudges for the book he could have sent someone to try and collect them. Instead he came up personally to see this done. To me that implies he cares for more than just more grudges for the book.
