[X] Use Rite of Way for the worst patches of rough terrain
[X] Attempt to steal the Chaos artefact with Ljiljana
[X] Attempt to make contact with the Dolgan
- These are the Kurgans Mathilde met with earlier, who agreed to sell her cattle.
[X] Attempt to make contact with the Yusak
- These are the Kurgan that live directly south of Karag Dum, who are said to have lost the favour of the Gods and may be seeking to move further south.

-The only reason I am not spending 2 of our time on Rite of Way is it would be a boring update to read personally.
-About the artifact when we talked to the ice witch she told us she won't help unless we are going to definitively fail because she wants to conserve her strength. If we can get it early we will get an extra magister level witch with us and that would be pretty helpfull in what we can find out in Karag Dum. The downside is whoever we steal from is not going to be happy about the theft but I think we can mitigate it with being pretty sneaky.
-Dolgan is self explanatory. We need food they got food it is win win.
-Yusak can be an unexpected boon or something to be wary about. Either way I think we need to be at the helm to observe it and mitigate it should they be friend excaping from chaos or a warband trying to win their favour by raiding south.

I find it hilarious that after all the "how do we stop Borek from continuing the doomed quest" discussions in thread, Mathilde was the first one to jump on the "press on" train, even before the food solution was found. I gather that without it it would be Mathilde+Borek vs. the rest of the council debate.
Nah, Borek was ready for the rest of the Expedition to turn back, too. At least that's my read. I expect he'd have continued, even alone as he promised, but wouldn't have asked others to continue on to what seemed like near-certain death.

Perched on the back of the Volans like a very surly bird.
Did his pillows survive?

The area is massive, it's simply impossible for Mathilde to cover a significant amount of it solo, especially when you consider how fast some of the monsters move, something 200+ miles away from the expeditions projected course could potentially travel that distance in less than a day.

Being able to get a general overview meanwhile will be more broadly applicable.
Noting that this is in theory - because while someone able to travel 200+ miles if they wanted to does not mean they would travel 200+ miles for no reason.
As seen by basically anyone with a car being able to travel a hundred miles easily, but most people in not actually moving outside a 20 mile radius in a day.
How much fuel do we have? We are planning on carrying a lot of cows on the landships. Wouldn't that increase the fuel requirements? Would we have enough for the whole trip?
The weight of the cows isn't that much when compared to the weight of the steam-wagons.
For what its worth, most of the fuel consumption of a wheeled vehicle comes from:
-Friction - Mostly a constant barring the load bearing parts being overloaded dangerously.
-Acceleration - Very little of this when running on cruise, you'd do this when you break camp. You do use extra fuel per mass unit whenever you hit a bump or something, anything but level ground would lose linear velocity into a whole lot of shaking.
-Maneuvering - Avoiding obstacles, turning, etc. Again, per mass unit.

Assuming we use Rite of Way heavily, any amount of mass that the superstructure can support is largely irrelevant to fuel consumption, but over rough terrain that can change dramatically as energy is constantly wasted.

Did his pillows survive?
They would've been on top of the wagon and have greater drag, so they would've fallen slower than the wagon and only landed on it after it finished crashing, so they wouldn't have been torn to shreds. However, lots of sharp rocks around plus the sharp edges of the broken wagon plus a long drop with a relatively large weight, so they would've been greatly dirtied and heavily damaged. Not to an irreparable degree perhaps, but the people with the skills to repair and clean giant luxurious pillows are probably not part of the expedition.

If we steal the artefact now, there's the chance it will cause complications, or pursuit of said artefact by vengeful Chaos worshipers will cause problems. Better to get it later.

I really want to get there without any further logistical issues. Enemies can be stabbed, but good luck fixing anything wrong with the wagons with the main engineer lost.

This just seems smart. We've just lost a lot of our engineering experience and have a limited food supply so the easier and quicker the journey is to Karak Dum the less wear and tear on the wagons, the more time we'll have at Karak Dum itself, and the less chance it is that someone tries to ambush us on the way there. It's also a nice demonstration for any who are scouting us with the wagons moving over a road of Ulgu, surrounding by massive carnivore monsters.

Secondly is it's vital to get in touch with both the Dolgan and the Yusak. The Dolgan possess the answer to our food supply situation so making sure the diplomacy there goes well has a grave impact on the success of the expedition, and the Yusak are thr tribe in control of the area around Karak Dum. It should be obvious why we should try to make contact with them, as there could easily be a chance for misunderstanding if an heavily armed force is coming into their territory and staying while they're notably on the outs with Chaos and other tribes are eyeing them up could easily cause a fearful reaction if they think we're there for them. This interaction could give us a great deal more time actually exploring Karak Dum itself multiplying both the efficiency and effectiveness of this expedition multiple times.

Why are people passively assuming the Ice witch will go along with what ever we want regardless and wont try and make a solo play for the chalice, keep in mind if she's willing to go for it with just Mathilde helping her she must be pretty sanguine about doing the same solo because from her perspective I doubt she views Mathilde as massively more competent than her.

If we want to hold off on snagging the Chaos artefact we should absolutely be talking with the Ice witch.

Well is she gets herself killed trying to do something stupid that's on her. I don't fancy treating her like a toddler.

Yes, and if she pulls it off and comes back with the chaos artefact and she pulls a load of attention our way? I'm not assuming she's a toddler, I'm assuming she's competent enough to get the job done but with complications. After all if her + Mathilde is capable of grabbing the artefact it stands to reason she likely believes the same is true more or less with out her as she wouldn't be on this expedition otherwise.

Truthfully this sounds like fearmongering. If she wants to do this now and not later she can come to us. Or she doesn't and we do it later. I don't see her going berserk and jumping at it in first oppurtunity.
