The mother-ship helped, but if we rely only on stores we'll be down to stonebread by halfway."

"You're telling me we've got enough food to get there, but nothing for the return trip?"

"That's one way to put it. I've been trying to convince myself that it just means Borek has faith in this deal you struck with the horsemanlings, and in the ability for these Knights to hunt and gather."

Gotrek and Borek don't know about the Rite of Way, right?

That means with Mathilde casting the Expedition ought to overperform.

...well, unless someone has a very good explanation for why he's setting forth without enough supplies to even reliably make it to Dum (he supposedly has enough to reach it, but anyone with a lick of sense knows there are always delays), then I'm officially writing him off as anything except a liability.

Mathilde has brought a dragon and some two hundred knights with exotic mounts (and some wizards but wizards don't eat that much). That's a lot of extra supplies to carry especially since there's also the extra canons that Gotri sent.

The expedition is trading reserves food for killing power/troops. That increases the risk of food running out but also decreases the risk dying due to enemies; right now most forces that can kill the convoy can't catch it.

Presumably she will lend a spell when the convoy hits a river, but an hour or so casting Rite Of Way isn't really an action-grade time commitment.

The path through Kislev runs pretty much parallel to the Lynsk, and the Zorn Uzkul is as dry as a bone. The earliest possible river is in the final week before Karag Dum.

She hasn't brought it up yet, if they plan based on the assumption that the Rite of Way will handwave away terrain constraints, it would make Mathilde the single point of failure that could doom the Expedition if something happened to her. Also it sets her up for a really nice dramatic moment later.

What if Borek did it on purpose so the Expedition had to stay and defend the Karak until enough supplies for a return trip could be managed. But to feed the Karak and Expedition while resupplying we will all have to rebuild and defend and hunt nomad cattle...

Looks like we will be stuck here for a couple of decades manlings! Too bad!

No point wasting Mathilde on scouting as yet.
For people, I want them all. Practicality necessitates some prioritisation however.

They break down into two basic categories: councillors and subordinates. And I think it better to get our own guys in order before nosing about the rest of the top brass.
We have seven options for our troops. Deathfang and the choir boys and arguably subordinates of other subordinates so are lower priority. We need Asarnil to make sure the command structure is understood and to find out if he or Deathfang have any requirements. Egrimm and Michel have seniority. Which means the question is which Journeyman gets to wait a turn.

For now I will approval vote both and see how the thread is leaning.

Nice! Mathilde surprising the Dawi by simply fixing their greatest problems is always fun.

I'm mainly in favour of setting up good relations with the other leaders at the start. I think we should leave the Knights until we can visit both at once for the saem reason we didn't appoint one in command of the other.

Fun update. Nice to see how the gang is working so far.

My first priority is getting to know the most powerful beings we are responsible for. So the two Magisters, Asarnil, and Deathfang.

If we're ever going to social Deathfang, we should do it at the same time we social Asarnil. And I think it's a good idea to be on good terms with the most powerful person on the expedition, not just his BFF Asarnil.
