It's an understanding of the circumstances under which multiple magics in one place goes bad and how to avoid that. Off the top of my head, times Mathilde may have been able to develop this understanding are the Vitae research, the three towers of the Eye of Gazul, using Ulgu to manipulate Waaagh Magic, the reading of the Liber Mortis and the observations of Alkharad, and the Dragon Ogres sickened by 'wrong' lightning.
Also her realization that the Eshin Shuriken spell is basically shadow knives but formed around a ball of squeezed winds.

In retrospect, it's not actually surprising that Mathilde stumbled across too many interactions between Winds to mention them all while being employed to look at weird magical shit and figure out what the heck is going on.

Yikes. If shit keeps escalating with Belegar and Thorgrimm, we might need to spend the friggen boon to stop a civil war from happening.

Which would make me sad.

I mean sure, he now on Character Sheet hates Thorgrim, but at least he isn't Stressed anymore!

We just have to worry about him using all that free labor to turn the Eye of Gazul into a really really really tall slanted tower for to burn Karaz a Karak down! :V

This whole thing has made me regret that we got that look into Thorgrim's head.

Like, imagine if we didn't get that one mini-chapter. Where Cadeath's bombshell shocked us as deeply as it did Mathilde, and launched the thread into a dizzying frenzy of speculation until Belegar's partial truth solidified us into the worst interpretation. Just imagine the discourse around Thorgrim then, because we do not and have never truly known what goes on in that head, and it sure looks like he has never stopped acting only out of the interests of his own Hold.

And then picture a future scene down the road, where Belegar and Mathilde have escalated far enough that Thorgrim is forced to break his secrecy and read us into the full truth, that the continued existence of the Dwarven race depends on our Waystone's continued function. WHAM.

As it is, this OOC knowledge will change the course of our actions and the feeling behind them. We would have to deliberately choose to pick suboptimal choices that depend on Belegar's inaccurate guess. The consequence of metagaming would be a success that we didn't figure out on our own, and the consequences of failure would be spoiled by the fact that we didn't earnestly make that mistake.

What a touchy subject this subplot is going to be. I really do not know how it is going to unfold.

I clearly want a diplo-trait, this will do.

The flip side is the months of complaints that I'd have gotten for making Thorgrim OOC if I hadn't given that glimpse.

I'd just as soon go without the thread constantly hating on someone. Again. And it never lasts once we get to see more of the person, this just skipped to there.
