Plausible. Wait, by that logic won't both be even busier than Kragg was in the latter battle?
Here, they would have counter-counterspelling as a specific duty that they should prioritize, given that the Eye can lay waste to a whole section of the Caldera at once, and without spending the charges on any Ancestor Runes.

I suspect he may not have any choice but to get a line in-quest this time
No choice??
Likely, but the shamans have to survive the two runelords sensing them and then destroying everything around the shamans before they can cast a spell.

They may not be counter spelling much but any shaman that reveals their existence is going to die.
Possibly. But that still leaves the issue of spells going off before they get obliterated, assuming the shamans can't attempt a Dispel...has dispelling of Anvil of Doom effects ever come up in quest?

I don't think it has. Kragg had that one screw up in the battle of Karag Nar but that was attributed to him be too into his drum solo. He rolled really really good otherwise so the shamans may not have had a chance to counter the runic magic.

I am unsure if countering/dispelling runic magic is possible in divided loyalties. If it is though there will be another runelord to snipe out the shaman who just revealed themselves.

Since there are no goblins the waagh will be limited to the big waagh lore or whatever they call it. While they have some pretty tough spells, at least in the wiki, it sounds like the majority of them require the shaman to see their target. This could be very hard for them as there will be a large cliff and fortress walls blocking easy viewing.

Jumping on the bandwagon.

Two thoughts- first, I *wish* we had a cavalry force, even just an elite squad, stationed/hidden in Ziflin right now. They could ride havoc immediately after the eye fired the first time, if they trusted the eye not to burn them, they could slash at the orcs huddled in the shadow of the rim and bait groups out to be ashed.

Second- immediately after this battle, when both Kragg and Thorgrim are looking at their dwindling arsenals of charged major battlerunes, is exactly the right time to mention that we may have a recharge method. Maybe even before the battle, so they don't sacrifice dwarf lives being miserly with the power. :)
Some day our spider/halfling pistolleers will be epic.

Y'know... if we've timed this right, we might have some free time that lines up with the Empire dropping the hammer on Drachenfels.

No thanks. I'm getting tired of overdoing our duty when we still have the backlog, which is only getting bigger and likely to increase after we tally the relevant loot from four freaking Karags. And the Mors camps.

He's been ducking us with all that 'Thorek's grumbles haunt the Karag' and 'Thorek tutting over the Anvil of Doom' stuff, and Kragg's been helping him evade the camera by being all territorial and cute over us, but it's time for him to get an actual, real line in-quest! Surely he's not going to just mumble into his beard when Belebro asks the council its thoughts, right?

Hopefully the orcs have decided to bring all of those ancient dwarf weapons with them in this waagh so Kragg and Thorek get even more runic stuff to tinker with. If we win this battle I have a feeling the smelters will be working 24/7 to deal with all the metal we will get.

Can we please start taking an answer for an answer instead of debating it? The illusion and the controls were built to aim Karag Nar's shadow. Fudging it to try to get the illusion useful for something else is not possible without a Grey Wizard directly controlling it to make the alterations necessary.
No. There's nothing to guide. You point it in a direction and turn it on.
I'm sensing a building irritation at the direction of the questions.... how about we just take it that the tower works like Boney says it does

Building up more satrapies in the Border Princes for Karak Eight Peaks and generally working towards improving the stability of the area between the Skull and Blood Rivers and Karak Eight Peaks and Barak Varr. It'd be a long term, and very beneficial option that keeps us close to home in Karak Eight Peaks.

Honestly, if we 'retire' from the council to write and research and do this as our day job, then the EIC becomes the equivalent of our employee wizards in terms of replacing our personal actions. IE we spend a turn or two 'off' of setting up satrapies to write or research or adventure and use our EIC action to keep our objectives with them in play.

It makes action economey slot more flexible, it lets Mathilde play for bigger stakes (that allow tension, because personal prowess matters less and info/strategy more) at a scale that accommodates her ability to project force on a strategic scale. (Elite personal retinue/bodyguard unit and mercs plus whatever she can talk the dwarves into.)

I think I'm just mostly bored with Dwarfs, I miss the intrigue panics and paranoia of the early days that Dwarfs are just to straight forward to incite.

tis why I want to play in the empire and elven lands more.

(for the sake of transparency, I also was against staying in K8P to begin with. though I've warmed up to it a bit. just wish we didn't pick being on the council and where just the local wizard that help when she was around and disappeared every few years on a adventure)

I think the win here might be a good time to transition to that role. K8P is our home now, I think: we need to develop some lasting relationships if we are going to be well-balanced human. So adventures plus returns to see changes and flourishing, tell stories, write papers. We are a Thane and the first court wizard to a Dwarfhold, but I think the Thane title lets us play in our current league politically should we need to despite not being on the council directly if we retired. Thane is forever, after all. ;)

Dwarves are not going to risk untested stuff unless they have literally no choice.

Trying it the first time is testing it? Like, absolutely the first step in getting anything to 'tested' status is the first test.

Some day our spider/halfling pistolleers will be epic.

I hear and support you in this! It'll be a convergence of the halfling population, which i expect to undergo a huge boom shortly as the colony expands to its final dimensions in the caldera, the gunnery school and taking locals of all stripes, and the increasingly close relationship between the We and the farmers who supply them with food.

Speaking of, we are well setup to turn the caldera proper into grazing lands. Good grass that we know will grow here, lots of nutritious ash, and the ooze to bulk out and replace grain. We can probably build some very large flocks easily- keep the east valley as cropland farms with the irrigation network developed off of the aquaduct, where the halfling cottages are already built.

But personally, I really really want and would appreciate support in a campaign for setting up a unit (24-36?) of Smoke Knights on shadowhorses, and poaching Soizic as their captain and our personal agent.

@BoneyM I just really want Mathilde to make Soizic a horse because she doesn't have one, can I beg for an option to vote for that?

I get if no- there haven't been any relationship actions laying groundwork, really, but it would be cool to make magic items for both Oswald and Soizic the way we gave the torq to Francesco. Oswald would really appreciate a trial-and-error collaboration with Johann, I bet...

I just want Soizic to have a horse. (╥﹏╥)

No, the first step for DWARF research as demonstrated by Kragg is:
1) Look up precedents for this material.
2) Look up similar materials.
3) Test, in a suitably protected and isolated spot, for behaviors observed in similar materials.
4) Test exhaustively for properties of the material.
5) Construct a theory of interaction for the material.
6) Test theory of interaction on something expendable.
7) Actually start testing it on runes proper.

And keep in mind runecraft is a sacred art. They WILL abort testing if they feel its improper. Kragg would do it with a heavy heart, but if he can't prove the axe isn't Dawi Zharr he'd lock it up in a vault.

If Soizic wanted a horse she would have a horse.

You know if people wanted to go on a journey but didn't want to do the boat thing for fear of going to far... well the tomb kings are just a hop and a skip away from K8P, and they're the first to ever use theurgy.

Talking shop with a liche priest or two may be very enlightening for you theurgy advocates.

And i'd get to play spooky scary skeletons on the thread, so everyone would be happy.

You know, while there are areas that would be blocked by the Citadel and the Sentinel's peaks shadows from any given orientation of the sun on Karag Nar, there aren't going to be as many places that are blocked from every orientation—at least if there are non-trivial height differences between the 'peaks' and passes. We should have at least partial coverage in the area that isn't an auto-hit when we set the shadow for max coverage of the Caldera as a whole by tweaking the angle of the sun behind us to sweep north-south and the angle with respect to the horizon to reduce area actually in shadow (at the cost of reducing the reach into the caldera itself).

Yeah, if each Knight had shadowsteed enchanted spurs then that's the basis for a Knightly orders winner circle Inheritance. I assume we can pretty casually drop Holy Weapon into a sword given our mastery.

The question is, how do we get the plot hook to the Tomb Kings?

Yeah let's not poke the undead reverents of humanity's first civilisation. They usually don't like it.

Right now I am very invested in being the Loremaster of K8P. I really don't see myself voting to let go of that title right now. There are just so many mysteries that could be explored in K8P when the threat of complete annihilation is lifted.

What the hell is at the bottom of the Lhune depths? It surfaces somewhere so where does it surface? That could be a super fun adventure through the darkest deeps of the world.

We now have cartloads of skaven artifacts. What can we learn from them and what spells could be crafted from the techniques of our enemies?

There's Bok. What's his deal? What wonders could be made by combining wind magic with rune magic. It's fascinating to think about.

The darklands are right next door. What horrors will shamble towards us from that accursed land? What horrors could be prevented by brief stabs into them?

Karag Drazh just emptied out a substantial portion of it's inhabitants. Perhaps now is the time to steal some treasure back for the dwarfs.

We have the ever illusive AV. We know, kinda, what it's made of. What can we achieve with that? What wonders of runecraft could be unlocked once local magic levels no longer need to be worried about? What mighty rituals could we cast if we knew we would never run out of wind?

We could always get an apprentice and inflict horrific, I mean, educational instruction on them. I would prefer to do that in a stable location rather than wandering the world. What place will be more stable once we get rid of this measly waagh?

Then there is the crown of K8P. What's its deal? We know there is more than one system of magic in the world. Could this be a key to discover another?

I know some people want to continue the high risk adventures of Mathilde Weber but I am tired of thinking every other choice could be a game over because of the risk it entails. I would love for some lower key adventures around K8P as we pick apart the threads of ignorance and discover more about this wonderful variation of Warhammer fantasy BoneyM has made. I have been listening to some pretty energetic music for many many updates and I would love to be able to listen to a some chiller tones as I read future updates.

I really look forward to a period of discovery and dedicated self improvement once everything stops burning green.
