@BoneyM

One final rep item, single collection of Dwarven encyclopedia? Basically what they are comfortable to share among friends.

There does seem to be enough crossover that they can collaborate with us on enchanting projects, and they have trainers for human-style enchanting, going by BoneyM's informational post.

But setting aside all that, we could go with:
5 points to set up a facility to turn saltpeter into gunpowder
2 points for a Ranger trainer
1 point stocked for an engineering consultation

That would still leave 7 for the fallback fortress idea.

What's the norm for that on SV? The quests I've read here stick with one thread through thousands of pages. I might just change the thread title, if that's possible.
If we stopped being advisors for good I'd agree that a thread switch could be appropriate. But we're still quite a way away from that.
Presumably knowledge or at least rumours of Van Hal's death have reached Wurtbad by now, as news travels faster than a marching army(?)
This is what I've been saying for two updates now. But did anyone follow my write in?

I guess three people did...
Also, Sigmar abandonment is not going to be a good trait to have. That way lays closer to Chaos and Heresy. He really does exists and He really does care, Van Hal's dice just sucks most of the time
So you're saying Sigmar has to roll dice to help Van Hal? And such a Good is supposed to be worthy of worship? Don't make me laugh!
Now let me in peace as I go play Yatzeeh with Ranald.
Have them send trainers for the watch
One point for skilled but common in dwarf society (Miners), two for specialized units (Rangers), four for true expertise (Ironbreakers), eight for hero-level instruction.
Shouldn't the value of the hired trainer be also dice and diplomacy related as usual? It's not as if we even knew what legendary Dwarf to hire. Or would we be writing "Looking for someone to train tunnel fighters. Please only send renowned heroes. Thanks"?
Wow. Pretty divisive votes all around. Any chance I could convince you guys to switch the detriments to this one,

[] In the confusion of battle, even the greatest warrior can lose their life pointlessly.
I'm pretty sure many here switched to the anti-sigmar vote precisely because the vote you're was winning.

@Exmorri At this point in the vote maybe it makes sense to look if two of your favored votes are competing and if you have any preference between which of the two you'd rather have win.

Sigh. That Dramatis Personae sheet is going to see some major overhauls...

Of the few minor positives, we might have gained a relationship point with Gustav? 'Despite being a Wizard, we know the worth of cannon and where to point them' sort of thing. And the relationship with Kasmir will probably have a... minor rewrite depending how both our respective crises of faith go.

Neatly counterbalanced by how dangerously unnerving we've been acting lately, I suspect.

Cutely unnerving wizard is the threat to your sanity and composure of any upright, Sigmar-fearing gentleman of the Empire when she runs around in her underpants.

Dangerously unnerving is the thousand-yard stare the wizard gives as she takes command and demands you turn the cannons on all major resistance from here to Castle Drakenhof, followed by 3 days of cannons pounding the ancient nightmare of Stirland into rubble.

Since we are speaking about Dwarf rep does anyone want to consider the using it for Julia's Blackwater Canal project idea?

I mean if anyone can actually pull of a canal in the old world it would the dwarves of Zhuftbar the Capital from the Dwarf engineering guild and the new route should open up closer ties to get more Dwarf rep in the future to spend on other projects as we help them.

I'm fairly sure the Dwarves hate the idea of anyone not a dwarf speaking or learning their language. They might let very common words, az (ax), dawi (their word for dwarf), grobi (goblins/orc), throng (if that's even dwarven) etc go just because they are very simple concepts that can easily be grasped, but I don't think they'd allow just about anyone to learn their language, beyond what a word correlates to for another language. It's a secret they guard jealously.

You'd have to make your way to a dwarfhold, but once there it'll only cost you money.

Spending rep would bypass the usual search and dice rolls.

what do all the colors mean on the new map

There's a key in the geopolitics threadmark.

Just had the thought that this is Tzeentch' Advisor Quest Antons doing, too. Some "swap fate" Chaos blessing where he got Van Hals crits to further his schemes, dooming the hapless Elector Count to repeated critfails at the worst time.

Inb4 Anton is secretly Tzzeentch quest with nega sv trying to acquire Weber as a waifu.

I've been on to him since we were voting to tell Van Hal to cross the river and attack Drakenhof town, and had my fake nega-SV suspicions for longer.

Now I see Anton's devious, cunning plan all along. All this time, playing the innocent fool, worming his way into everyone's confidence, gaining their trust. His reward for years of plotting?

He's just been made Regent of Stirland. When... I mean if Van Hal tragically gains the Incapacitated trait in the coming battle, EVERYTHING IS COMING UP ANTON! Reveal the existence of Van Hal's secret kids he no doubt duped Wilhelmina into confiding in him, declare himself Regent until they come of age... if nothing else untoward happens...

Muahahahaha!

Currently, you're in the top three in the Empire for most dwarf rep, after the Elector Counts of Ostermark and Averland. That may chance depending on events in the coming Elector's Meet.

Dwarf Rep is both a rating and a currency - having 15 points means that every dwarf that meets you is going to know you as Dawri. This is a word that means 'as good as something can get without proving itself over a few decades', or, literally, 'dwarf-like'. You helped Zhufbar and Karak Kadrin strike out some very old grudges that otherwise would have been very, very difficult to set right, and that's no small matter.

You can spend the currency to represent calling in favours, but the rating won't drop unless you actually act against the interests of dwarfkind. I'll probably end up recording it as '15 rep, 15 unspent' or similar.
Interesting. The dwarfs are meticulous about favors as everything else certainly.
[*]Have them send trainers for the watch
One point for skilled but common in dwarf society (Miners), two for specialized units (Rangers), four for true expertise (Ironbreakers), eight for hero-level instruction.

[*]Have them send experts to assist in setting up industry for turning that saltpeter into quality gunpowder
Five points.

[*]Personally tutor Mathilde in mundane fields (combat, tactics, mathematics, history)
Same scale as the trainers, depending on the quality of the teacher.
Lets see. For the dwarf trainers we probably want Rangers for the Watch at this phase of the War Below, which is mostly Skaven moving around while humans move around as well. We need trackers and investigators who can delve deep and unknown tunnels and report back. That said, when we book this we should clear the schedule to participate in the training as well.

Ironbreakers and Hero training is wasted for now. I don't think our Watchmen even have the basic fitness to finish the training.

Sub-Dawi grade gunpowder...orthogonal to our job, but this would both solve the financial problems for the forseeable future AND probably cause some trouble down the line with Nuln, who'd probably be a little bit unhappy about the competition. Save for later.

Personal tutoring in mathematics...four points would probably go a very long way towards her wizard career. Less so for combat and tactics since she's a wizard and fights completely differently from dwarfs, but I'd probably add Smithing to the table(AFTER learning the basics from a human smith) for when we want to craft our own equipment.
[*] Or in Khazalid?
Four points.
Given how closely the dwarfs keep it to their chest, of limited use.
[*]Let Mathilde move into a dwarf hold and live there
If you promise to refrain from spellcasting inside the Hold, and would be willing to live in the bunkhouses, your rep would be enough.

[*] While conducting magical research?
Four points, and you'd have to work out a way to have a laboratory far from the populated parts of the hold.

High praise indeed.
[*]Have one of their experts consult with Mathilde on vaguely appropriate magical matters (enchantment, Qhaysh Juice study)
Same scale as the trainers, with a 12 if you want to briefly collaborate with a Runelord.
o_O
I'm not sure how the techniques crossover, but presumably by the time collaborating with a Runelord would be only worth the Runelord's time AFTER we're in the running for Wizard Lord...
[*]Provide her with/sell her enchanted equipment of their make
Eight points to commission something from a runesmith; you'd specify the item but they'd decide the details, since it would be a gift rather than a purchase. (yes you spend dwarf rep but that's an abstraction, it would be a gift)

[*] Or mundane but high-quality equipment, such as pistols?
Your rep means they'll sell them to you, or you can spend four points to commission something.

[*] Or have an expert collaborate on an enchantment project with her?
Would need to be arranged personally with the expert, but two points could get you an introduction and their ear.
Expensive, but high quality swords and guns are nice.
A bulk purchase for our Watch elites would not go amiss either, but our Rep also opens doors for supporting Gustav in his efforts to restore the Greatswords by getting them good gear.
[*]Help Mathilde dig or renovate an underground base somewhere
Two points to dig, five to renovate it so that it'll last at least a thousand years. It would cost more to renovate it to a lesser standard.

[*] In total secrecy?
As above, and you provide the ale.
Not really worthwhile yet. But heh.

Net result, my proposed spending:
-Immediate
--2 points on Rangers. Mathilde sets time aside to be trained along with the Watch.

-Mid term
--5 points on Gunpowder production refinement. Depends on the new boss.

-Long term
--Reserve 8 points for personal improvement. Possible combos:
---8 points for enchantment consultation.
---4 points for learning forgework. 4 points for improving Mathematics

I really don't want to roll back the fog of war from an entire continent because of how much extra work it would take on my part to bring the rest of the continent to life.
Yeah. Also keeping in mind dwarfs would find the idea uncomfortable to routinely write to a human enough to constitute a rumor mill.
AND of course, their focus on entirely different matters than we do.

That said, I suspect if they found a Waagh coming or something of immediate strategic value they might write a letter. Might.
Correct. The Empire is polytheistic, and most hold to a single patron god while still acknowledging the others. On top of that, Grey Wizards are usually secular. As long as you don't actually start defacing Sigmarite churches or similar, merely believing bad things about him won't make the sharks start circling.
I just imagined Mathilde sneaking into churches and toiletpapering the roof overnight.
We already worship a prohibited god so actively disliking Sigmar doesn't make much difference.
There is a significant difference. I support the Sigmar vote, but don't underestimate the consequences.
That said, for those opposing the Sigmar vote, you guys are doing it wrong.

A big chunk of the Sigmar voters are there because fear of battle was the leading option. You might have better luck promoting alcoholism.
Lately? Dudes always been a bit scared of us, like the rest of Stirland.

And we were the picture of a driven but calm, in control commanding officer after showing the stick.
I'm not sure Mathilde was calm to anyone but US. I would not be surprised if she conducted the whole thing with wide, bloodshot eyes and clenched teeth.

One possibly important thing to note, according to that list it seems like the Dwarves are willing to sell things to us because we have Rep that only cost money and do not cost Rep. This is important to take into account because if we spend too much Rep we might lose the ability to buy those things.

So, make sure that we have at least a few points left over unless there's nothing on that list that costs nothing but cash that you want to be able to buy in the future.

Been clarified already. Our Reputation is 15. This is the max of our ability to hold favors from dwarfs. It does not go down unless we do grudgeworthy stupids.
Our Favors is 15. This is what we can trade in. While trading it in all at once would be a little gauche, its not harmful to our reputation.

Good to know, thanks.

We can probably make it a little cheaper if we use Abelhelm's Bridge garrison for trainers. They are already here and have nothing better to do than socialize with manlings anyway. Not sure if there are any Rangers, though.
