[X] Throw yourself back into reclusion and goddamn stay there until the job is bloody well done.(takes two actions)
-[X] Ranald's Blessing

Now I wonder about the situation in Nachthafen, is it the alias of a genuine Lahmian vampire? Someone or something ballsy enough to usurp a vampire's 'hard-earned' cattle and territory? An almost Pratchettian Sylvanian tradition of pretending the original ancestor is still around and keeping the blood cults alive, just in case she ever gets out of her lead-lined box in the Stir?

Time to give dear Mathilde a vacation dont you think?

Id vote for the Inn bit and seeking inspiration. Who knows, we may even get a new spell out of it if the dice permits.

Super unlikely to get a spell. Imperial colour magic just doesn't work By getting epiphanies from interacting with the nature of magic. it's a rote memorisation of the proper formsThat allows wizards to cast spells. Not saying that we wouldn't get something from seeking inspiration from Ulgu it's self, just not a spell.

That option's attractive to me as well. One of the big reasons that we're bothering with this project at all is so that we can be acknowledged as a Magister, but that's not only about achievements and competence; an unstated prerequisite to become a Magister is to be so tied to your wind that you've started visibly changing to reflect it. Mathilde hasn't done so at all, yet- at least not that I've noticed in the text. While we're not using the WFRP rules, those outline that otherwise qualified journeymen can and will be told to go back out and keep journeying if they return to the College and attempt to test for Magister status, but their master doesn't believe that they've soaked in enough of their wind to become inextricably tied to it- sometimes repeatedly, stretching out their journeyman status by years.

There are solid reasons for this; not only is it a sign that the wizard in question has used their wind a lot and pushed their limits (timid Magisters who avoid using magic aren't doing their jobs), the more closely they become tied to a single wind the more difficult it becomes to use the others, until ultimately the use of dhar becomes difficult or even impossible because the wizard is simply unable to grasp any wind other than their own so no mixing can occur. That helps a lot when it comes to ensuring that Magisters don't go crazy- or at least not in a black magic kind of way.

So in pursuit of our overall goal of seeking Magister-hood, spending time soaking in Ulgu and handling its concentrated energies as much as possible is a definite benefit- even if it won't necessarily help us with actually writing our paper.

[x ] Countess Gabriella von Bundebad implied quite a lot, and in such a way that it's clear she's trying to needle you into action. But you don't know what. If inaction isn't the correct move, what is? (write in; may take an action) (NEW)
think this is a good thing to do but do not know what part of it too do

[x] If you're feeling nosy, Vanhaldenschlosse is apparently free of anything that would object to you poking around in what was once the proud ancestral home of the Van Hals.
[x] Something apparently quite similar to the Purge of the Haunted Hills is going on in Ostermark's southern regions; you could inspect goings-on up there yourself.

lets set things up right

It would a good idea to investigate the countess, considering she commented on the magical ability of the Von Carstein, implying she has her own magical ability. She also scoffs at the name of the Von Carstein implying she finds her laughable. Their is also more then one sect of vampires. Mainly suggest investigating background at least to ensure we don't trade one vampire for another.

[X] Really Good Swords: You have achieved proficiency with the Greatsword. Future progress is possible, though it will take more effort to see results.

That wasn't a scoff at a Von Carstein, that was a scoff at someone pretending to be a Von Carstein. The implication being that she bloody well knows a Von Carstein when she sees one, thank you very much.

@BoneyM can these two be fused? Like Recursion in a hot springs inn?

Gabriella made completely clear that she was a vampire, or as much as she could without saying it out right. She also implied that she has met our boss before. Even if she hadn't implied she was familiar with Van Hel this is still the sort of information we should report directly to him. I highly suspect that she is not going to be dealt with directly and will instead be treated as the lesser evil. Ablehelm has been a pragmatist if nothing else so far.

There is a time for brute force. This is not it. Take it from me you cannot just grind through a writing project and get anything worthwhile out of it.

--[X] Write in: Tell Van Hal about the conversation. Advise that, as the situation is apparently stable and we have ears in the city, it can probably wait until the purge is done and we have time to investigate properly.

You consider Ulgu. Taken elementally, it is the interplay between light and dark. Taken mystically, it is the coming of dawn and dusk, of revelation and concealment. You consider your own magical repertoire, and find that you've drawn almost entirely from the latter. Your spells owe little to the elemental nature of Ulgu - no Invisibility or Shadowcloak, for instance. Your spells draw more from the mystical significance of shadows - the sudden plunge into darkness of Mindhole, the tireless advance of the dusk and dawn of Shadowsteed. Both directions are correct, or at least no more incorrect than each other.
A point in favor of taking the Ulgu option above, is that Mathilde has mentioned that Ulgu has an aspect of revelation which is undoubtedly appropriate to her scenario where she wants to be inspired.

You could double-up on hot springs, sure.

I am aware that Gabriella is the lesser evil, but she is an insidious evil and out of the two vampires she is the one who is more likely to be our for in character. This is mainly because we know about two Devils there and we know about one which is a direct enemy, but we should probably get to know the one that is at least attempting to be mildly friendly mainly for in character knowledge. Considering Mathilde is dealing with an lahmian vampire even if she doesn't know it yet. We can't counteract a threat we don't investigate.

This is Silvania.
She'd have to become a really big problem to not be the lesser evil for centuries to come.
A stable part of Silvania that pays taxes is already a small miracle, unless we somehow manage to purge far more than planned and get it all permanently garrisoned it's better to have her than not to have her.

Not a NEW spell perhaps, but inspiration comes in many forms.

Maybe a higher tier spell is easier to learn? Or and this is my prefered option, maybe a Mastered spell from our spell lists?

I understand that I am mainly more worried about learning about her, if anything she is a long term threat, assuming she ends up being one. Plan wait and listen satisfying me short to at least until the purge is over. I mainly want her to become a known entity instead of unknown. The biggest thing is I think we have caught her interest considering lahmian tendencies.

I don't see why the paper is so important as to spend both actions on it, could someone please explain their point of view on that to me? As I see it, we're supposed to be spymaster first, wizard second, and getting published is only one part of being a wizard. A part we've already spent a lot of time on. It's useful, but far from urgent.

Seems good enough, I wouldn't say no to doing some enchantment instead of hanging around in an inn in the hopes it gets some creative juices flowing though. Weber also seems to be something of a workaholic and we're currently in the middle of a military campaign so it seems like a bit of an odd time to visit the hot springs.

Certainly spending time in an unknown location would is perfectly acceptable behavior for a spy mistress but being known to be relaxing in the hot springs while everyone else is stuck slogging through armies of corpses seems like it might create a bit of resentment.

@Angelform is there any particular reason you chose to go to the Inn or would you be willing to replace it with enchantment?
