So it would take some very unlikely events for the thief to have survived?

Okay Ranald, I think this one learned his lesson.
He got his hands chopped off and Manfred likely attacked him in an isolated place, so he probably just bleeded to death. And he would be dead of old age anyway.

@Boney, why does Mathilde bother using explosives on the door hinges when she has a magic-dispelling sword that hits like a cannonball ?
Maybe because she's afraid there's hidden spells on the door?

"In the immediate aftermath, Felix Mann, wanting to claim his reward, discovered that with no physical proof of the deal he had with the Grand Theogonist, nobody would believe he had committed a theft on behalf of a holy man. Wronged and angered, Felix stole one of Vlad's Books of Nagash. However, while fleeing from the Sigmarites, he became conscious that someone was following him from the shadows. When Felix was finally cornered by the stranger in a back alley he tried to buy him off with the dead Count's signet ring.

The stranger, who was in fact Manfred von Carstein, severed both wrists of the thief, took the ring and the book and left Felix for dead."
Huh, wiki page says that's from 8th edition Vampire Counts, but that's definitely not right.

The only times Felix Mann comes up is the bit where he's hired and steals the ring, and a bit in Mannfred's part of the Vampire Wars saying:
Some Vampires claim he was awake when the Carstein Ring was stolen, and afterward spent long years seeking Felix Mann.

Is it from the Vampire Wars novels? Anybody here read those?

You've also got the Money vote infiltrating two other categories.

As I've said before, the tally is fascinatingly imperfect.

There's also garlic, Daemonsroot, Witchbane, Silver, specific types of wood etc. If you want to hunt Vampires, you need to have a utility belt as big as Batman's.
And that's not even including materials like sawdust and embalming fluids, running water and Warpstone, though carrying and making use of such materials would be rather more questionable in practicality and, in the case of the last, ethics and safety. There's also the possibility that the vampire you're facing is compelled to count things they see, so you can buy whole minutes of time to regroup in the middle of combat if you've got a pouch full of copper coins, pebbles or the like, as the vampire will either fail to resist the urge to count and sort them, losing track of all sense of the world around them until they're finished, or they'll have to retreat/fight while constantly distracted by their presence.

Don't subject yourself to Thousand Thrones @Codex . It's as bad as Endtimes and really not worth your time unless your enjoying it as trash.
I read the Marienburg section and stopped after that. I really didn't like the whole thing. It just wasn't giving me good vibes. I don't really think I'd read it, more like skim through sections of it.

Disregard currency, acquire reading material. Also a suitably comfortable and prestigious lining for our reading nook.:p

Not sure about who to give the money, but othewise we came for books, we leave with the books.
Anyone tries to stop is gets stabbed. Double for the silk sheets...

Let's just take the flaw and accept that we take no one's sheet.

If we give in now, Johann wins.

And by Ranald we are getting books.

Yes all the books.

Probably the most valuable thing here, by the time we are through we will think of Vlad as an old friend.

Johann had the right of it. Let's not be too proud to admit it.

Always pay the Dwarf what they're worth. They did a lot of heavy lifting here.

Don't much care about these. Undead, Morrite, and Vampire insight, which we already have a lot of, and barely use. Deranged ranting about prophecies. Anatomical knowledge already known among academics, the book held largely for prestige. These are useful for the influence they are worth, and little else.

[X] [RING] Burn
Investigation into the enchantment of a ring we'll likely never encounter... why bother? All his enchantment insights are likely to be Dhar-exclusive, much like the Liber Mortis's spellcasting information was - it was the journal and philosophical aspects that were most interesting (and ignored by ambitious idiots). It could be interesting, but so is everything in the backlog, like the actual pile of enchanted weapons we have in storage.

A disappointing haul altogether. No saucy vampire novels at all.

the sequence of 'mathilde wants silk sheets' into 'we find an evil lair with silk bedding' into 'but they are gross, so we cant take them' has strong meme potential. So i hope boney keeps introducing evil silk sheets for us to reject. For the memes.

Our backlog hardly has anything in it these days unless you count the Waystone project and that is not backlog, that's the job.
