I wonder if/how much the first technicolor children were harassed at school, be it by fellow students or by disciplinarian teachers.

It's not unknown to have left-handed children drilled to use the right hand instead, after all - let alone singling out people with unusual features for harassment.

It wasn't unknown in Japan to have children be forced by the school to dye their hair black even if the hair color they had was natural.

Makoto's science textbook blames pollution and that's all I know.
Here's another thing - in anime, hair color is used to denote some characteristics, create an opinion about a character, or deceive expectations. And since we have an anime universe ... although there the signs of the zodiac work, as well as superstitions about blood groups.

Honestly, most of the time you are right and that in-universe hair color is probably more natural. Blues and purples are just meant to be different shades of black and the same with some shades of green and brown hair.

mh.. when would we even tell them about the senshi stuff, if they don't find out first?

At this point I think definitely not before Jadeite, but would/should we wait until the end of the whole DK arc?

Finally, after ten thousand years, I have caught up on the quest!

Good job on this story, @Lunaryon! I might not vote or post much but I'm really digging it!

No, I believe that he can't reach levels of vindictive, disproportional pettiness and small dick syndrome needed to be Lex Luthor.
Yeah...
Once Lex Luthor pretty much unlimited power as long as he did not attack Superman at one point. And Lex went and did it anyway...
So yeah, it is hard to match him in pettiness.:D
Edit: Though I may have misremembered something, and apparently the Lex vs superman rivalry is, well, something I am not sure about exactly considering in one comic Lex also sacrificed himself to save superman... 🤔 🤷‍♂️

Do What Ye Will, Harm None Part 2 - Arriving at the Hospital
So... I made a small mistake which I am fixing here.

Someone asked about a vote on calling the other two groupings of communicators, and I said that I'd make it a vote at the end of the event, and then forgot to do so.

So!
[ ][Com] Call the Uranus Moon Communicators
- ???
[ ][Com] Call the Pluto Communicator
- ???
-- Slight chance of Communicator Error
[ ][Com] Call both!

-- Slightly higher chance of Error than calling Pluto alone
[ ][Com] Call Neither

[X][Brek] Get breakfast with Kenji
Together, Usagi and her father go out for Breakfast, just the two of them. At first the two try to talk with one another. Asking about how their days have been, what Kenji's work is like, how Usagi is doing in school... But little by little the conversation starts to trail off.

Usagi doesn't mean to be secretive with her father, but there is so much happening in her life that he is unaware of, and that Usagi doesn't even know how she would begin to explain. Which means that time and time again, Usagi's answers tend towards the more vague and less informative. All in all, it creates a strange air for the meal, one that Usagi wishes that she had the ability to cross and climb over, but one that she doesn't know how to.

And while the thought of coming clean and admitting everything crosses the girl's mind... Well... At the very least, that is something that will have to wait until her Mother is out of the hospital. Of course, there is a part of the girl that wants to push it back even further.

Perhaps once Jadeite is taken care of?

In the end, the conversation and discussion over breakfast was stilted and unnatural, and it was clear that both father and daughter could feel it. Eventually, Kenji drops Usagi off at Naru's. There is a moment where the man's eyes bore into the girl, his expression strong and stern, but his eyes were warm with love. "You know that you can tell me anything, right?" He says, "I won't ever hate you, Bunny." He continues, smirking as he calls Usagi by the nickname that Usagi used to go by when she was much younger.

[FAILURE]

Usagi gives a brittle watery smile back at her father, before she hugs the man. Tight, but not tight enough to hurt, before she lets go. "Thanks Dad." She whispers back, before heading into the lobby of Osa-P.

With a soft sigh, Kenji returns to his car, eyes slipping up to the rear view mirror as he drives away. Something has happened to his daughter, something has changed. His little bunny has secrets now, things that she isn't willing to speak to him about. There is a part of Kenji that wants to grab his daughter, to shake her and demand that she tell him what she knows. That is a bad thought, one of his father's thoughts.

Kenji swore years ago that when, if, he ever had kids that he wouldn't treat them the way that his own father treated Kenji and his sister. The thought of Mia Tsukino causes Kenji to sigh again, shaking his head. It has been years since his sister cut him out of her life... And for the longest time, Kenji was... Okay with that. She didn't want to see him, and he didn't want to impose on her...

But now...

Now when his daughter is hiding secrets from him, his wife and son are in the hospital...

Kenji feels more alone now than he has in years, and they say that time heals all wounds. Slowly, Kenji's mind starts to spin, thoughts and plans and ideas forming and building like puzzle pieces, and ever so slowly, a plot begins to form.

While Kenji Tsukino starts to plot on how to put himself back in contact with family long lost, Usagi's feet patter across a roof top, before the girl kicks off, the wind blowing through her hair as she soars through the air, the busying streets below just starting to fill with people heading into work. If there is any one thing about being Sailor Moon that Usagi adores more than anything else...

Well, actually, that would be the Vector that the powers have given to her. Direction and momentum that her life lacked before. Even in her head, Usagi can't help but grin as she uses one of the new terms she learned while preparing herself for her meeting with Alice in a regular sentence.

But getting back to the actual thought in her head, while the vector that her life was taking would easily be the thing she loves most about the powers and responsibility she has been given, and her friendships with the other Senshi (and of course, Naru) would be the second, then the third thing that she loved the most, the thing that she vowed to never let get boring is running along the roofs. The blur of speed and the whooshing sound of wind passing by her make the girl feel alive in a way that she really never had before.

Tucking her legs in, Sailor Moon lands in a roll, before exploding up off the rooftop with a mighty shove of a hand spring. Up, up, up into the air Sailor Moon soars, until she is stories and stories above the city streets. Spinning around, the girl looks all about her as she tries to find the best place to move to next on her journey towards the hospital. Eyes lock on the rooftop of a building blocks and blocks away. The girl locks her sight on the spot, her mind and soul and magic forming some kind of anchor. Having used the spell so often, she no longer even needs the incantation, and the world shatters, Usagi falling into another layer of the world.

It isn't even a moment before the fragmented under pinnings of the world restore themselves, and Usagi lands with a click clack of heels on the concrete stone of the office building's roof. There was another thing about how Usagi's life had changed that the girl hoped would never get boring, the sensation of stepping beyond the physical and allowing herself to see the deepest levels of the universe that scientists can only dream of.

That, and crossing nearly twenty minutes distance of the city in just a moment. Of course, having the power to teleport the way that Usagi does has it's own... difficulties.

Particularly the fact that her powers don't work the same way as they do for the other Senshi. Somehow, Usagi doesn't require massive amounts of horribly complicated math and physics and all sorts of things that go straight over the girl's head.

The thing is that if Ami wants to use her own Sailor Teleport spell, it requires so many extra steps that Usagi just doesn't have to deal with. Calculations of where she is, and where she is going, how they relate to each other, and even things like the movement of the Sun and the planets have to be accounted for.

Frankly, on this particular spell, Usagi can understand why the previous Sailor Mercury just used her computer to cast the spell, but... Ami isn't happy with just having the power to command space, no she has to do so as efficiently as possible.

Admittedly, Usagi thinks that the face that Ami makes when she is deep in thought is absolutely adorable. She scrunches up her nose in such a way that Usagi just wants to reach out and Boop her right on the nose. At the same time...

Landing on a rooftop, Usagi stumbles to a stop, before starting to look around, trying to get her bearings. Ever since Naru passed out doing... whatever it was that she did to Inuyasha's blade, the girl has been... ever so slightly different. Quicker to glance away from Usagi, quicker to pull back from hugs, and less allowing of even the slightest of accidental touches.

There is a part of Usagi that worries that she has done something to make Naru uncomfortable, or to make her friend unhappy with her. The girl doesn't know what it could be that she is doing, and she isn't sure how to fix things. At the same time, she doesn't seem to have any of the same reservations with the other Senshi, so it is possible that it might have something to do with that strange reaction towards the Moon Princess.

Usagi definitely hopes that it is the latter, because she doesn't have any idea of how she would even approach talking about the first. Though... If it is something having to do with the Moon Princess, then the best chance they have to deal with whatever it is would be Ami and the Mercury Computer.

On the other hand, if it isn't something involving Magic, and instead has to do with something else... Something to do with her, then having someone else with her when she goes to ask Naru about it might help keep things from being awkward.

It could also make things worse, but...

But letting it fester, leaving things alone, letting things stay like this. That would be the worst possible choice that the girl could have. What if things just kept getting worse and worse, leading to Naru cutting Usagi out of her life?

Usagi would hate that. So whatever is happening, magic or not, it'll be for the best to get it out in the open. Of course, that just leaves the question of when to do such a thing. Leaning against the edge of the railing atop the building, Usagi clicks her communicator open. A few button presses, and Naru's communicator starts to ring. After a moment, there is a click as the other side answers the call. "Yeah?" Naru asks, her voice still tired, but clearly awake.

"I'm not waking you up, am I?" Usagi asks, her courage all but vanishing in an instant.

"Nah, I'm fine. What's up?" Naru asks.

Taking a breath, Usagi steels her courage. "So..." Usagi begins, "I don't mean to pry, but you've been acting... different ever since we met Rei. Or... I guess more ever since you did that thing to Inuyasha's sword."

"Ah..." Naru makes a sound, "I... had kind of hoped that you hadn't noticed."

"Do you..." Usagi starts to ask, trying to figure out how to word her question. "Do you think it's Princess related?" She asks, and Naru is quiet for a moment.

"Huh." The girl says simply. "You know, I hadn't really thought about that. It might be." There is something else in Naru's voice, but Usagi can't tell what it is.

"Want to talk about it... Like.. Wednesday?" Usagi asks, "We could grab Ami and her fancy computer and see if there was anything before the Fall that might explain what's happening?"

"...Sure." Naru says, but her heart isn't in it.

"Hey." Usagi says quietly, "We don't have to if you don't want to. I don't... I just don't... I don't want things to be bad between us. You're my best friend. I don't want to lose that."

There is a sigh on the other end of the communicator, before. "Yeah." she sounds almost like she is about to cry. "I don't want to lose you either."

"...I've somehow made this awkward, haven't I?"

"Hmm... Oh, no!" Naru says, but she still sounds like she's about to cry. "I'm just chopping onions for ramen. My eyes are killing me."

"...Oh, okay." Usagi says, feeling like she might have been having a slightly different conversation with her friend than her friend was having with her. "Anyways, I'm off to go and try to save people!"

"Good luck!" Naru says, before she hums. "My compact spell makes gems..." she mutters, "I wonder what would happen if I used it on an onion."

....Ok. That was a statement that Usagi wanted no part of. "Talk to you later." Usagi says simply.

"See ya, Usa." Naru responds, and then there is a click, the conversation having ended. Hopping up, Usagi stands on the edge of the building, barely sparing a glance down at the ground, before her eyes slide out towards the sky line, trying to spot the Hospital.

Ah! There it is.

Once more, Usagi slides out of space, slipping between the world and the other that lays beneath it, before she slides back out. Unfortunately, it seems that the girl's aim was just a little off, and she slips back into the real world at a level that leaves the roof right at the halfway point of her shins.

Usagi pitches forward, hands snapping out to catch herself after she trips over the floor.

"No one must ever know." The girl says aloud, promising to never admit what just happened to anyone.

On Monday, Usagi makes her way back to the Hospital, a better plan in mind to try and deal with those effected by the Dark Kingdom, and potentially the Oblivion as well.

Standing on the roof of the Hospital, Sailor Moon has two different ideas of how to handle her plan to help individuals.

The first plan is much simpler, but it comes with the downside of not being able to distinctly tell how effective your work is, but it also prevents Sailor Moon from being found out by the people working in the hospital. And that plan is to simply move across the roof of the building, casting her Lunar Healing Burst spell through the roof and into the rooms below blindly.

The other plan is a lot more... personal, but has a lot more risk to it. Usagi's Disguise Pen gives her the ability to take on the appearance and skills of a particular role, so taking on the role of a Doctor or a Nurse would allow Usagi to move through the Hospital with impunity, passing through the different rooms of the Hospital and visiting the affected individually, which would make it possible to see the effects of the healing magic directly onto the patients. However, there is a non zero chance of people realizing that something is wrong, and identifying you are not a member of staff.

[ ][Hospital] Heal safely from the Roof
- Heal without putting yourself at Risk, but lacking the ability to see the specifics on how your abilities are affecting the patients
[ ][Hospital] Use the Disguise Pen to visit the Patients individually
- See the patients directly, and see how your magic affects them, but put yourself at risk of being discovered

I really want to go inside but also Usagi's Intrigue score is utterly terrible. That is actually a pretty good bonus with the pen, let's risk it for a biscuit.

Good point; how big is the disguise pen bonus? +2?

Actually, looking at the disguise pen description, in this case it'll be (Learning (14) + Intrigue (5)) × 1.1 = 20.9 effective bonus. That actually seems good enough to me.

It's only a small chance of a communicator error if we just call Pluto. Maybe she can tell us what the group on Neptune is?
[X][Com] Call the Pluto Communicator

Tempting as it is to have fun with disguises, Usagi might get asked to do actual medical work, and she is not a licensed medical worker. The pen might give her the skills of one, but giving medical aid without having an actual license to do so is probably illegal, or at least puts her at risk of getting sued if anyone finds out. Plus, as mentioned by others, Usagi's Intrigue score is terrible.
