Of course you can also just turn them into a Fae Court and suddenly time doesn't exist as an absolute but rather only a measurement of how long the narrative needs to pass in its story.

as long as we act sovereign, most everybody will be willing to provisionally treat us as sovereign until we can actually take possession of the Moon.

I honestly don't think we'll be treated as sovereign until we have the actual country behind us.
Once we have that, if we ask to sign the Genocide Convention

...half-seriously half-jokingly... aren't we technically genociding the Dark Kingdom?

well, except MAYBE the 4 brainwashed generals, if we can manage it.

Then again, The Dark Kingdom quite literally doesn't have civilians. only soldiers/terrorists.
***And, based on them not having any substantial industrial technology, they probably don't.

we actually don't know this. Moon and Earth didn't seem to have industry (though it might have been there somewhere out of the manga pages/tv screen), but there's a whole solar system out there. Maybe Industry was all around Jupiter, for example, and the Moon was the equivalent of a place for rich people and the elite.
Well, I think the word 'sovereign' has been thoroughly semantically saturated for all of us. Unfortunately (for my ego at least, lol), I don't see any response to my idea for a formal privy council either, which was actually the most important idea in my first post. I really think we ought to do that during our next downtime, in some form or another. I have some potential structures, if anyone's interested.

In a way we're already doing that with the various advisor positions I think. Anything more detailed than that is not really necessary right now.

But that's at the far end of a sizeable chain of 'ifs.' And it might actually be less work to just build a moon colony.

[I cannot believe I'm saying that!]

magic and self-repairing ruins help a lot with that, to be fair ;)

About re-establishing formal ties with the Realm of Light.. are ALL of them like the mascottes?

Because, quite honestly, the ones with Nagisa and Honoka seem incompetent/annoying enough that they might actually make things HARDER for us if we try to get acknowledged on Earth.

agree with all the other points Simon makes.

Point is, by any reasonable standard they must have had "industrial technology," even if the operating principles were alien to that of today's Earthly science. And honestly I suspect they weren't as alien as we'd think, given that at least some of their artifacts ARE recognizably similar to the ones we design for similar purposes.
To be fair, I don't think it's IMPOSSIBLE for an artisan-like society to reach these sizes, depending on if an individual (or a small team) is capable of basically build spaceships one by one.

It DOES feel unlikely though. They probably had some kind of magic-based mass production process. Maybe giant rituals/spells powered by collectively gathered mana, or something like that, if we don't want to go with standard industry.

Alright, so the last rolls I need...

[x][Inu] Moon Shock!

No one is taken by the Bus this turn
[ALL AVAILABLE BACKUP HAS ARRIVED]
Wait.

Inuyasha blinks, the two disparate thoughts snapping together in his mind with a near audible click. She's looking for at the bus, expecting something she isn't seeing. What do buses do? They carry people!

So if she is looking for a person and they are not there, and she was on the bus, then they must have gotten on the bus together, but now the person is gone.

Disappeared. Just like Kagome.

And, even more- Inuyasha can't smell the demon because of the smell of the fuel, which would be even better at masking the smell if the Demon was on the bus!

Inuyasha takes a step forward, his hand dropping down to the sports bag at his waist, the compromise he and Kagome had come up with to allow him to carry his sword around during this age when swords were outlawed...

[CRITICAL SUCCESS]
But as he does so, there in the back of his mind, there is a voice that sounds almost like Kagome's telling him to go and get the Moon girl. He scowls at the thought, confident in the fact that he doesn't need any help. A voice almost like Sango's points out that just because he doesn't need the help doesn't mean that the help isn't useful, and a voice like Miroku's argues that they might be able to help get Kagome out of their shared enemy's hands, which would leave whoever did this open to getting beaten to death for taking Kagome.

Nodding to himself, The demon boy prepares to head back in order to speak to the Moon girl, but he takes a second moment to look over the woman looking back and forth for her allies. She has power, and if her people are missing, then that is yet another potential ally in the fight against whoever took Kagome. It would definitely be worth mentioning her to the Moon girl. She isn't the only one either. The last three people to step down from the bus also catch his attention.

The first is a tall blonde haired girl. She looks like a boy, but she smells decidedly feminine, but even that is more than a little buried under the crinkly smell that prefaces the few tornadoes that Inuyasha had seen in his life. Wind Magic, and Wind Magic an order of power more than the Lightning lady.

The second is a shorter green haired girl... She smells... almost like a dragon of the sea, just... missing that particular fish smell that sea dragons have.

Then the last of the three. A petite red headed girl easily a few years younger than the two she is traveling with, and who smells... Different. Familiar. But Inuyasha can't target where in his memories he has smelled the smell of the girl's magic before...

Whatever the source, that is three more people who might be able to help in the fight against the Demon that has taken Kagome. With that the boy slips back among the trees, vanishing into the shadows like he was never there, with nary a mortal soul having seen him.

Naru steps down off the bus, first looking around the entrance to the shrine before glancing over to Michiru and her boyfriend. There is another flash of jealousy, not unlike that strange anger that the girl feels towards the idea of the Moon Princess, but this is even more disconnected and distant, so she manages to push the sensation down with ease. "So..." the girl starts to ask, before going quiet and giving another quick glance around to make sure that no one is eavesdropping. "You're sure that Uranus will be able to arrive on time?" The girl asks, looking to Michiru.

The green haired girl just smiles, giving a slight nod as an answer. "Don't worry, Uranus is closer than you think." The girl says as she leans back against Tenou.

Naru pouts, "I still don't understand why Uranus doesn't want me to know her secret identity."

Tenou smiles, "Maybe she wants to feel like a superhero," The boy says, "Like Clark Kent talking to Lois Lane about Superman without the reporter knowing that she is talking to him at the moment."

Michiru elbows her boyfriend, a smile on her face. "It's more than Uranus is shy, and she'd prefer that as few people know her secret as possible. Maybe once she gets used to the Princess knowing her secret identity she'll open up to a few others." There is an odd look that quickly crosses Tenou's face at that statement, but Naru isn't entirely sure what it is.

Naru pauses, turning and looking to the trees far in the distance. The girl isn't sure exactly why she turned... but there was something... A gaze wanders across the trees for a moment, trying to spot something, anything...

But no, there isn't a thing out of place. However, turning she does manage to spot something else that is out of place. Standing there, eyes slowly trailing over the group that had piled off from the bus is a woman, maybe thirty at the oldest, with short black hair and eyes that seem to almost sparkle in the daylight. Naru can see both the badge on her chest, and the subtle bulge of a weapon at the side of her hip. She seems... confused, and more than a little concerned.

If Naru were a more confident person, she would go and ask the woman what was wrong, but instead she and her two high schooler allies start their way up the steps towards the Shinto shrine.

Up the steps they go, one foot in front of the other, again and again and again, until they finally reach the final of the cherry red Tori gates, and the ground flattens out to reveal the whole temple complex before them.

"Oh, my my..." An old priest says with a grin, stepping up to the group. "You truly are blessed, my young sir, to have such a beauty on your arm, and another following after."

Tenou laughs, "What can I say, some people are just lucky."

"True, true." The man says, nodding along with the tall blonde boy.

"Grandfather." A beautiful dark haired girl says, "Are you flirting with everything that moves again?" She asks, a scowl on her face.

"Nonsense," Tenou says, sliding up next to the shrine maiden, "He's just sharing a laugh with me over our shared fine tastes. And I must say, if this is what a shrine maiden looks like, then I wouldn't mind working here myself part time."

Down at the base of the hill, a bus pulls out of the Shrine's stop, turning a corner to pass into a hill under the shrine. A shiver runs down Rei's back, her eyes sharpening as she takes a step away from Tenou, hissing. "An evil spirit?" The question throws everyone off guard, even more so when the girl pulls out a Ofuda that Naru and her two friends can both feel brimming with magical power. "BEGONE EVIL SPIRIT!"

Be it by magic, or by the sheer force with which Rei throws the mystical charm, but Tenou's head is knocked back, the teenager stumbling back even as the charm stays attached where it landed. The moment passes, and all of a sudden Rei Hino, the miko of the shrine goes from filled with righteous anger to confused and embarrassed. "I'm so sorry. I don't know what came over me."

However, Michiru is anything but angry, instead giggling softly. "No, no. It's fine. Maybe eyes will learn not to wander."

From his position a few steps back, Tenou can't help but throw in his own two cents. "Would it be better, or worse if I said I was imagining you in the Miko's outfit."

Before she can answer, the Miko tenses again, turning back. "Naru!" Usagi says as she turns the corner, Luna following close behind with the red robed demon boy that Usagi and Ami met a few weeks ago. "You're here. Are the others?"

Oddly, it is Tenou who reacts first, eyes slightly widening, first at Usagi, then at the boy behind her. "I..." Naru starts, eyes flicking to Rei. "Yes."

"Luna can't find either Makoto or Ami." That... that is bad news. "But we've figured it out. It's the buses."

Rei turns back to Usagi, a confused look on her face. "What's the buses?"

"The source of the disappearances. Not sure how, or why," The reincarnated princess explains, not even stopping as she continues past the girl. "Good news is that if everyone else is here, then we've got what we need to handle it." Usagi says to the priestess, "So the disappearances should stop by this time tomorrow." The girl says, completely ignoring the confused look on Rei's face.

With nothing else to do, Usagi's allies start to follow behind the girl, heading back down the stairs. Completely uncaring of the Member of the police speaking into a phone, Usagi's eyes are laser focused first on the spot where the bus had been a few moments before. Carefully she stops, dropping down to a crouch and feeling the ground.

"Inuyasha," The girl says, and the red robbed boy perks up a hair, "Can you smell either the Demon, or your missing friend?"

Inuyasha drops down not just to a crouch, but full onto all fours, sniffing at the ground. "No..." he starts to say, before he pauses. "Wait... I know that shampoo. Yes." Step by crawling step, the boy moves forward, closer and closer to the tunnel that passes under the shrine.

As he begins to get closer, the boy starts to move faster and faster, before popping back up to his feet and all but sprinting down the tunnel, until he reaches a point just about half way down the tunnel.

Coming to a stop so fast that she literally slides for a moment, Inuyasha glares at a spot in the air. "There!" He growls out. "There... In there." He says, "But I don't know how to get in."

Unnoticed by all but one of the group of Senshi and allies, two figures have been slowly following after the Senshi. One a priestess who wondered what the hell Usagi meant by what she said, the other a police officer only out of the Hospital by a few days, who found herself already back on the job, not for a desire to do so, but for a lack of others who can do the things that she can do.

"So how are we planning on getting in?" Luna asks. Kimiko blinks, surprised at seeing a talking... cat.

Wait. She had read a recent file about such a thing not to long ago.

Meanwhile, Rei simply stares at the cat, her mind flickering back to the way that she would find her grandfather in what almost looked to be conversation with a pair of crows from time to time.

"I wish Mercury was here..." Usagi grumbles, glaring at the spot in the air. "She'd be able to figure out a way in..."

"I might have a way in." Inuyasha says, unzipping a long duffle bag he has been wearing this entire time. Then he stops, one hand snapping up and knocking the cap off his head. Instantly, a pair of canine ears popped up, and it was all that either Rei or Kimiko could do to keep themselves from gasping in surprise.

"Right, everyone around here has magic. Don't need to hide these anymore." The boy says, sounding finally relaxed. Then, with a single motion, he draws forth a sword. Not just any sword, no, the sheath sparks with light as a blade impossibly wide and long is drawn forth. Taking a step forward, the boy slashes at the air, and... for the briefest of moments, the blade and the air both seem to shimmer, but... beyond that... nothing.

Usagi stares at the air for a moment, "Try that again." She orders, and though the boy gives a 'Tch', he nods. He gives another mighty swing, to the same result.

[ ][Usa] Stone
- It's like Inuyasha's sword isn't hard enough to pierce through the barrier, but thankfully Naru's magic can make things harder. Maybe if she used her spell on the sword, then that would be able to pierce through the barrier.
[ ][Usa] Blessed
- Usagi's own magic is seemingly built for exactly the purpose of fighting the Dark Kingdom. She was surely got to have some ability to enhance Inuyasha's blade to be able to pierce the veil.
[ ][Usa] Portal
- It isn't everyone, But if Usagi times it right, she might be able to use Sailor Teleport to get through the barrier, and if she is careful, she might be able to hold the portal open herself.

is this one of those votes where if the option fails, one of the other options will be picked till either all of the options have been selected or they all fail or, will something happen to interfere if we fail the first one?

Go Naru!
Prove your worth!
Her magic is probably the easiest to combine at least. Though I think I'd prefer they both try.

Oh that's canon and I'm just an idiot. I'm still interested in Lunaryon's exploration of it.

The description of thinking with portals sounds extra risky, so it's either this or Blessed. And really, how often does Naru have a chance to shine?

[X][Usa] Stone

I think Portal is more likely to work in general, but then again, I don't know enough about Inuyasha to definitively say that his sword can't cut the portal open with some boosts, and Portal sounds a bit more risky too. Plus, it gives Naru a chance to help in a tangible way.

Honestly, she's almost certainly way younger then that. The other Senshi were already around and established when she was born, the curse from Queen Nehellenia who'd been alive for a while...

Honestly, my guess is that she was 22 at the time of death, as that's the age Usagi, in the manga, takes up the name/position.
It's possible and in keeping with Princess Serenity being relatively young and untried- powerful, but incapable of using that power to save herself.

Well, two things:
1) Queen Serenity was actually from outside the Solar System that set up shop on the Moon. So "billions of years" is not impossible.
2) Time Travel is a known thing, and the Space-Time Door predates Sailor Pluto. So humans before humans evolved isn't impossible.
...Now that you mention it, that's a very valid point. Time travel makes it plausible that humanity evolved on Earth,* went back in time, and set up a civilization, probably keeping Earth as a nature preserve because, well, humans were evolving there.

It might, @Lunaryon now that I think about it, explain why Earth was relatively disadvantaged in the last years of the Silver Millennium.

Suppose Earth was a nature preserve on which ancestral humanity was very meticulously left alone while the rest of the solar system was extensively developed by time-traveling wizards. Suppose that first contact with Earth's civilization only occurred after the seminal event where some time-traveling wizard was known to have transported themselves a million years or so into the distant past to found that civilization. From Earth's perspective, very suddenly, the skies open up and a richer, more sophisticated culture greets them... but it is accustomed to viewing Earth very much as the poor relations of the Solar System, and Earth simply cannot match anything that they now have.

Am I making sense?

Dark Kingdom youma are effectively self-replicating magitech war machines that live off of life energy. Come to think of it, it's entirely possible that they were created for that purpose, because they don't work without sapient beings to prey upon.

we actually don't know this. Moon and Earth didn't seem to have industry (though it might have been there somewhere out of the manga pages/tv screen), but there's a whole solar system out there. Maybe Industry was all around Jupiter, for example, and the Moon was the equivalent of a place for rich people and the elite.
What do you mean by "don't have industry?" I'm not clear on this. The fact that we see idyllic bits doesn't mean there weren't productive bits elsewhere, though, yes- it's not like a normal royal palace has a factory complex next door.

[This also ties into my hypothesis that the Jusenkyo Springs actually ARE a Silver Millennium Superfund site where magical contamination got into the groundwater, and that they never got round to cleaning up before the Fall :p ]

magic and self-repairing ruins help a lot with that, to be fair ;)

In a word, yes. I have a very funny image of an exasperated Luna demanding to speak with their manager.

Essentially, Inuyasha's sword is known to full on eat useful magical enchantments put on it and gain those benefits permanently.

Well, not exactly the best first impression between Uranus and Mars, though it at least seemed to result in some general amusement rather than lingering aggravation.

It would have been much easier to open the gate to the pocket dimension if Mercury had been on the relevant side, but it cannot be helped, same with Jupiter's absence.

Personally my bet is that it is about Haruka's sexuality. Remember it is 1992 and while it certainly could be worse it still isn't a good time to be openly lesbian. Haruka presents as male not because she identifies so but because it makes her life easier. It lets her openly present Michiru as her girlfriend and gets more respect in her racing career.

This is why I think Michiru is gently ribbing her about being shy. Haruka just isn't confident enough to be openly homosexual or deal with the discrimination of being a woman in a very male industry. So she hides herself away behind a false male identity.
