I guess the language of sharing a goal isn't quite right... Maybe:

The True Way is the way that can accommodate all other ways which are in harmony.

The 'one future' version makes it significantly more common to stamp out other futures, it is certainly true. I do not consider that to be a good thing for us to make a default choice. It's something we need to do sometimes, sure, but stamping out other futures we don't like should be a last resort.

We do need an ethical statement about whom it is permissible to use force against and why. It seems like we've been dodging making that statement for a while, but all the hints we've been getting are that we cannot wield SheIn without it.

So how would you phase it, if not in this manner?

This one is more friendly with differences than readers might think on first glance. It's still about the differences, and doesn't actually say it's reducing those differences, just pointing them in the same direction.

I still prefer this route. Looking at our concentric geopolitical circumstances, it feels more fitting. We've got all sorts of different actors, not all in the same or compatible frameworks, running through our interests. Putting everyone on the same page doesn't seem workable, but that doesn't mean we can't direct them in ways to our (and their) benefit.

I also think it's pretty rare for high realm cultivator's to retain this kind of perspective, so I'd like to anchor it somewhat. Cause it'll be funny when we do keep it.

Communication as a concept is very much the wrong place to make that statement, I think. So I wouldn't make it here. I agree we need one, but this is not the time or place to make it. We are defining what Communication is and is for here, not making a more general statement about the world or morality per se. It speaks to our goals more than what means will be used to achieve said goals.

We need a 'means' statement to talk about ethics, not an 'ends' statement.

But communication is our overarching Way. I don't think we can avoid entangling the two.

It's not about avoiding entangling them, it's about the fact that neither choice here makes an ethical statement at all. They talk about end goals of the use of communication, not what means are appropriate to achieve those ends. Ethical limits require that the thing we be defining talk about means rather than ends, and this definition just doesn't do that.

You missed your opening bracket, vote won't be counted otherwise.

Anyway, before I vote, I think the options tie into Ling Qi's ideas of power and leadership. Option One is the leader -either priest, lord, general, or whatever- who convinces people to follow in their way, to carry out the work and ideal into a new generation. Not anything that takes away choice, but it is still very much about teaching others to see the world the way you do.

The second choice is about convincing others to bend their purposes towards your own. Instead of a priest teaching disciples his philosophy and principles, it's a group of priests who seek to find how their beliefs can help each other. Instead of a ruler laying out decrees and teaching how to enact just laws, it's scholars and legal experts debating and discussing what makes a law just, and what kind of decrees should come from them.

Both of them are teamwork. Both of them are cooperation and the choice of standing together, but it's in the details they differ.

It lets people work together while doing it their own way.

Oh, we're definitely preserving choice, but #1, but deciding that there is a correct future, pretty directly sets us up to think we know better than everyone else and try and force our vision of the future in ways that are...less than ideal. The second option doesn't have that issue nearly as much.

No, it doesn't. There is no meaning in the first vote choice that the one way is a Pre-defined correct way chosen by LQ. choice insights already take care of that problem. One way could be LQ's way, CRX's way, empress's way, cloud people's way, or white sky way depending upon the circumstance. The most likely scenario is 90%-95% of the time it would be a compromise way of consolidating the input of all the stakeholders

we are not arguing here about whether LQ forces her way or not. That is a done deal. The choice here is as a communicator if LQ is in a meeting with parties A and B,
  • whether she tries to find a way that gets X% of what A wants and Y % of what B wants
  • or A and B get 100% of what they wish to and LQ's purpose is to smooth out friction and coordinate them, of course, there are scenario's where only one of them will work. But by the nature of the cultivation, LQ will be supernaturally good at one scenario and in exchange be unsuited to other.
So basically this is a choice of what specialization as a diplomat we are. This is not about whether we become a dominator that disregards choice.

I don't think that Unity really fits well with all of the Choice stuff we've built up so far.

Ultimately, there is only one future, and we have an idea of what it should look like. That doesn't mean we won't ever change that idea or that we couldn't be convinced that the actions of others are a better path to it, but some things we would not allow to exist because we disagree they should. I do not think that the preservation of the paths of others should take priority over reaching the better future, even if the former is important too. It's a priority, but I do not think it should be the highest priority.

This seems like an acknowledgement that even at the end of LQ's Way that will still be people with other ways/Ways; that things may yet shift from her end goal in the future?
