You certainly do, of course, and I doubt you're alone - but would everyone who thinks there's one correct future agree on which future that is, hmm?

That's fair. But let me put it like this:

I think that what we are trying to do with the Wang and the cloud tribes and the polar nations is proof we want to crush the future of the King under the mountains. I think our backing of Lady Ren's vision of peaceful transfer of power means we want to crush the future of the emerald mourner.

There are some Ways we are not willing to tolerate, given the choice to exist in harmony with them.

Those paths aren't in harmony with ours then, are they? Both options allow crushing objectionable futures. That is not the distinction between them.

Our current goal is to help Renxiang overthrow her mother, and I'm sure everyone in the thread can agree to that. What comes after is hazier, but that's why we'll have to pull everyone together for a shared vision of the Emerald Seas since there's only one Emerald Seas and we'll all have to live in it.

I suppose I should also talk about music against the second element. "Harmony" is the exact opposite of "many ways". The vast vast vast majority of combinations lead only to cacophony. Even when there are multiple valid combinations they are more variants of each other than actually independent.

The normal way to have harmony is: there must be one leading melody. From that, all other voices must be carefully chosen such that they subordinate themselves to it (and don't conflict with each other either). Option 2 does not give us that.

(there are variations involving things like alternating melodies but those are even more restricted).

So we choose our vision of the future over theirs. Rather than choosing to bend ourselves to stay in harmony with them.

That is choosing A better future as why we communicate, not communicating to see and understand all the parallel ways.

More resilient how exactly? When you have multiple clans all vying for power with their own paths running in parallel, it's inevitable that they'll eventually diverge and come into conflict because as is Ling Qi's way, stillness is death.

In contrast, if everyone worked towards the same goal instead of their own individual goals that just so happen to intersect every now and then, everything would function a lot smoother.

The 'one future' version makes it significantly more common to stamp out other futures, it is certainly true. I do not consider that to be a good thing for us to make a default choice. It's something we need to do sometimes, sure, but stamping out other futures we don't like should be a last resort.
