Side-note, but I wonder of Kohatu's fossilization/decay-by-degrees is going to come into play for the art we get here. Especially in terms of how it functions as a group defence art. Kohatu's been losing herself be degrees, but she's able to recapture some of her self when confronted with, well, company. In isolation, decay. In communication, growth. Something to keep a pin in, maybe.
[ ] How had Kohatu and Atamai come to be beneath the mountain?
Personally, this is the knowledge I'm much more curious about. It's closer to home, if that makes sense. Implicates, and is implicated by, the not-so-recent-nor-far past events which form the foundation of today. It's likely to uncover biases and inclinations, subtle and otherwise, that Ling Qi doesn't have the scope of experience to have fully grasped yet, but which are important lessons for her to internalize when dealing with larger politics.
That's partially motivated reasoning to justify testing my theories about how things went down, though. We know from a Shenhua/Linqin sidestory that the Hui were carrying out executions that Linqin was upset about, shortly before Shenhua's rebellion launched in earnest. She was an elder at the Argent Sect, so it's plausible they were related to the sect. Especially with the ducal/imperial struggle present in all the Great Sects. Maybe Kohatu and Atamai's master got caught up in that? On the flip side, maybe their master wanted to join Shenhua's rebellion, and the sect elders stopped and killed them because of that same delicate split in authority, and the oaths sworn under it. I wanna know! Buuuut....
[X] Where had Kohatu and Atamai come from?
This option is more likely to give Ling Qi a clearer picture of the contexts which make up Zhengui's underlying nature, which she's historically struggled with. Give her a story, a narrative, a sample of the intertwined notes -clearly sounded- which spell his song and she might have more success. If they're from a truly foreign land, then it's possible there's elements of his heritage, and his potential, we haven't had the perspective to identify. I want that perspective.
And getting an understanding of Zhengui is ultimately the prime objective, here. Hence, voting for this.
