Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Why would any negotiation at all be required to complete the mission? We are not performing some extraordinarily complicated operation here, blowing up the thing that supplies power to the formation doesn't need special information.

I believe the post stated that the actual formation is buried too deep in the ruins to be easily accessible. I don't think we can just blow up the power supply. My take was that we're going to have to find the right way to manually shut it down properly.

The vote for that is run away.

Both other options have... arguable odds of turning into a fight.

You're right, but 1 results in us failing our mission. 2 has the best chances of avoiding the fight we don't need with the spiders' assistance. I'm fine with a fight if its unavoidable, but I don't believe 3 gives us sufficient benefits for conceding a fight as a inevitability.

Ah well, its time. Yrs is gonna call the vote any minute. I'm not actually upset with this outcome even though I was arguing for the other one. I just really dislike when people don't use factual and and textual evidence for their arguments. For instance, claiming that because LQ's not a reliable narrator, there's a chance for XYZ to happen. That's kinda crazy. I mean, if you go with that argument, you could really apply it to anything. As far as advocating for a certain vote, it sounds pretty thin.

[X] Enter and engage, but be prepared. Use the trappings of Cai authority and your own power to intimidate them into backing down. If they attack anyway, this is a grouping you can handle.

I miss uncle fungus

I agree, it's not really a big deal. I think it's an interesting move by Yrs because the move that looks more aggressive, 2, actually is the more cautious and diplomatic move, while 3 seems subtle, but actually concedes initiative and is more aggressive. It's not the end of the world or anything, but it is going to be higher risk socially, and I don't think these spiders will be hiding much loot.

*reads through every post after the update*

Is this the fabled vote salt I've heard about? Haven't encountered it since catching up. Fun ride tho. The discussion was all super engaging.

Hopefully, things will become immediately more clear as Ling Qi very explicitly lays out her thoughts, motivations, feelings, intentions, and philosophical commitments as they relate to her chosen course of action.

In that sense, this encounter is actually a really good way for @yrsillar to identify and correct any flaws in the thread's understanding of Ling Qi's diplomatic viewpoint! Finally, we will all be correct on the internet. The hallowed Nirvana, so close to our grasp at last!

also, I noticed the question, the reason you're looking for the power source was stated in update. The formation is too complex and damaged for Ling Qi to feel confident breaking it's surface elements without making the whole thing explode, which would obviously draw attention to the region, even if ling Qi and Xia Lin could probably dodge the blast.

Nope, it doesn't really compare to the worst salt-fests, where most participants walk away emotionally drained and/or sick of the discussion topic or at the very least annoyed.

The big thing is that most of the participants are actually okay with either outcome. There's just disagreement over what is optimal and whether any particular argument is correct.

As opposed to some of the big salt-fests where the other side is composed of complete monsters!

Even more annoying than being cast as a complete monster is being cast as someone casting the opposition as complete monsters. Completely tanks your credibility without even the fringe benefit of having enjoyed calling people complete monsters.

The cracks of the salt-wars run deepeth indeed.

I voted for option 3 simply because I see this as a perfect training opportunity. Subtle political maneuvering will be Ling Qi's direct job in CRX's court and option 3 is the closest one to what that's going to be like, as far as I understand.

Valid. "Wheedle as much useful intel as possible out of an enemy before they make their move and are no longer pretending to be friendly" is definitely a skill that seems relevant to court.

Did Ling Qi ever took any acting tutoring/classes?

since it was mentioned she practiced facial expressions in front of a mirror i think she is mostly self taught.

I voted 3 mainly because they violated the Sacred Rules of Hospitality, this ain't monkey territory but there has to be some standard's.
Then I was reminded of fungal uncle and I sad :V
