Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
"Yes," whispered the larger spider. "Have the traitors been driven from the great Heavenly Pillar?"

Ling Qi smile was bright indeed as she nodded. She had heard enough, both from her liege and the history books and people to qualify the last generation of the Hui as such. "Though it seems the fight is ongoing."
Ah yes good old Fey "I cannot lie, but will totally take liberties with the truth if you give me reason to do so".

Hanyi leapt off of her back with a laugh as she passed over Zhengui, grasping onto one of the three spiders there.
Ling Qi alighted upon the creatures bleeding back and sang of hoarfrost, and ichor froze as lethal cold crept into the beasts wounded body.

Spiders got literally ROFLstomped haha.

Wonder what Xia Lin is thinking about that. Maybe just as shocked as the spiders as how quick that fight was.

Now time to loot them!

Are they even?
We kinda don't have much intel on how they usually act that isn't absolutely mired in imperial propaganda about how they're unsophisticated savages.
Nomads do not generally engage in advanced intrigue like that. High level backstabbing is an emergent product of highly stratified civilization, its a skillset mainly useful if you wish to avoid conflict while also weakening your enemies, where for a nomad, thats a great way for everyone to die to external threats.

The Cloud Nomads are self professed to be unhappy about negotiating with the underground, but they did so anyway. Not particularly fitting them.

"My apologies again," Ling Qi said obsequiously. She even meant it, after all, it was rude of her to conflate the spiders above with these, so crudely intending to betray hospitality.
It'd be nice to have a spot of tea with the spiders topside, they must love the juicy gossip we'd share and have a laugh at the story of the spider hobo's below :V

And this is the reason there are hospitality laws.
Never know when the random traveler you tried to murk turns out to be extremely well equipped for whupping your ass.

Imagine if you had tried to pull this shit on a splinter of the Reveler.

I was thinking about all those stories about god's hiding as poor old people earlier on the previous vote, their warning's and teach you to be polite in case such a thing were to occur.

Lol yeah it's one thing to read the reports and intellectually know that a Cai would never suffer an incompetent to pal around with them. It's another to meet that person, who outwardly seems like a flighty musician who has a comedy routine as her spririt host. Then they casually walk into an known ambush, trip the trap, and grind their enemies under their boot with the weight of an epoch's worth of glacial might

Well, that worked out adequately, I suppose. I still would have rather tried telling them what they were messing with and tried gotting the cooperation of a surviving Hui, but ah well. Watching Ling Qi absolutely stomp on people is delightfully fun too.
In what world do you see the Duchess allowing a surviving Hui to continue surviving beyond the moment they came to her attention?

She should chat with people about going on Adventure with Ling Qi. :D

All the time providing real time updates on the position of each hidden spider moving around.

Wait, do you need reason?
  1. Sincerity is the measure by which the worthiness of the self and ones guests should be measured.
Ling Qi put honesty and self-truth into her Way. She can't lie to herself without violating her own truths, and she's not going to lie to others if she can at all help it. But technical truths are still completely sincere, it's not her fault someone lacks the clarity to divine the truth within those 'deceptive' words.

Yes as Fey have a sliding scale of truthfulness, and are often inhuman in logic meaning they can do some amusing jumps through hoops if you give them reason to do so.
Well, it was a joke. I thought more of the Aes Sedai in wheel of time, as they too can't lie and deceive in the same way, but seldom do they tell the truth unless they have actual reason to do so.
They just seem to deceive and keep secrets for fun

'Lord Scribbler' sounds like he'll be an interesting antagonist, a writing-based spymaster of the Hui that we can't just defeat but who uses other characters and intrigue against us. Ling Qi and Xia Lin travels around investigating where CRX and Meng Dan points them, Ling Qi steals documents that they may match their own administrative skills against. All the while Gan Guangli plays defense by inspiring loyalty in our own institutions.
