Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
"You're the one that kept the initiation ceremony going after the Elder and the core disciples got dragged into a fight."
Holy shit, Suyin!

I think that's at least as impressive as what Ling Qi pulled off in our fight. If she hadn't, the Sect probably would have failed to build that beachhead. Definitely worth a reward.
"Still, while your words pleased many, it has not pleased the Sect,"
... though we won't be getting one, I see.

[] Xuan Shi could use more friends and contacts, he had met Suyin before too. Perhaps you could him a favor and introduce them again before asking a favor in turn?

Wouldn't this come of extremely condescending if viewed in a poor light? Like we are trying to give him a pity friend (I don't think he would believe we have any matchmaking inclinations) because of our rejection. Maybe not the best move.

No? It is what he wanted us to do for him TBH. And we had this talk with Su Ling and the Ma sisters - we're introducing potential friends, not a treasure.

(Shouldn't this vote say: "(...)you could owe him a favor(...)"?) @yrsillar

Nice update! I tend towards this, because the answer to loneliness is shared interests between people. Suyin and Xuan Shi are crafters at heart and Shi noted wanting to benefit from us before. This could be great start. Also, getting to the bottom of his heart problems with the heroic Suying at our side will be easier, than without. Suying of all peopleknwos Loneliness in a sea of people, because of her academic focus.

Blegh.....really not happy about dragging Xuan Shi along on this trip, just let the dude try and work on his situation with Kongyou on his own for a bit first BEFORE letting us start metagaming on how to vote for the options to abort the plotline before it even starts.
He's not coming on the trip, we're asking him for advice and resources on dealing with foreigners. Different.

Also, I'd like to point out that we already owe Xuan Shi a favor that he has not yet asked us to repay.

Oh, I 100% agree. My concern is the perception, not the reality. Specifically, the fact that he has some sort of angst/tragedy spirit attached to him, I could see it twisting our good intentions into something a little less noble. Though, of course, the spirit (forget the name) can't overplay its hand if it wants to stick around so maybe I'm being overly cautious. Still think it's worth considering, though.

He was feeling lonely and wanted to be friends with us, and perhaps something more if we were interested. I can't see this is as coming off as anything other than awkward. Of course we could introduce him to our other friends but shouldn't we do that when we want to actually hang out and not...in return for a favor?

"I think it costs us little to try, save for pride," Lin Hai mused. "And the Empire certainly has a surplus of that."
Lin Hai continues to be great. Ling Qi's not the only one to laugh at this.

The woman's gold furred ears flicked irritably. "Do not concern yourself little nightkin, you are certainly no kindred to the children of Dawn. It would please this one if we could exist in mutual silence."
Kitsune and Nogitsune? Some kind of split among the foxes, anyway. Her line implies a fair bit of knowledge about Su Ling, though - because the obvious reason for a fox of one side of the split to dislike one on the other side isn't the possibility they might be related.

Given her relation to Lin Hai, I wonder how much her implied distaste for Su Ling is real, and how much is intended to force Su Ling to recognize what she's doing by assuming every fox she meets is like her mother.

Lin Hai is being his [Absolutely Fabulous] self as usual. And I gotta say Ling Qi adapts quickly to all kinds of people even though she is somewhat of a prude. It's a cute inconsequential personality quirk I'm growing fond of.

Since meeting the Duchess tends to be such a mind-melting ordeal, I'm surprised LQ doesn't get some WIL stat experience every time they meet. Although Duchess-farming would be kinda broken though.

No. He wanted to be friends with us because he noticed that our friends became more and picked up friends of their own when we became interested. He wanted us to do something for him like what we (apparently) did with Meizhen, who has now picked up two friends in addition to Ling Qi.

It really doesn't matter if we're doing it as a way to help pay for a favor. Any action we did, even if we did just want to hang out, is a (potential) favor, and it's not like we'll count it as helping to pay for a favor if Xuan Shi doesn't like it or isn't appreciative of it. It's offering something that Xuan Shi might want, and Xuan Shi will tell us implicitly or explicitly if he accepts it.

He has previously said that he wanted to interact with us to have some of our ability to make friends rub off on him. Arranging introductions seems like a natural follow up on that.

As for Kongyou trying to pull some shenanigans, her current approach is to try to suggest that LQ is scared of him. I think she literally can't make him think poorly of us, just of himself.

"Hey Xuan Shi, remember how last time we spent time together I kind of freaked out at the idea you might be interested in me? And how my very obvious fear of the idea hurt you personally in a way that damaged your self esteem? Well, forget about that and meet my friend, a cute girl with self esteem issues who enjoys books and formations and might just slot into the 'broken bird who needs love to truly heal' character archetype."

Unless we're trying to play matchmaker, I'm going to suggest not doing this.

Between her end of the year project, her recent performance, and the Sect basically shouting 'she's our favorite child' to one and all I don't see making introductions being awkward at all (unless sabotaged by a certain spirit). Setting up a friendly meeting between a rising star and a member of a ducal clan is doing a favor for them both.

"Hey Xuan Shi, remember how you said a lot of your interest in me came from being lonely and wanting to make friends by being pulled along by my social activities? Well here is one of my friends. Also if I had the ability to peer into your mind I would know how much you wanted friends, which I totally can't but the voices that scream math at me can."

because thats what this seems to be following more so to me.
