Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
hmmmm

[] Speak with Xuan Shi when he comes to finish the work on your Mothers house. It will be the most comfortable for you both.

I know Xuan Shi needs friends and all, but I think I'll take the slow roll approach

[] Xuan Shi could use more friends and contacts, he had met Suyin before too. Perhaps you could him a favor and introduce them again before asking a favor in turn?

Turtle boi must not be left with that horrid nighmare spirit alone.

"It's not just the talisman," Li Suyin said glumly.

"She's getting promoted into the upper five hundred," Su Ling said flippantly. "Can't think of anyone who deserves it more though."

Does this mean Suyin will outrank Bao Qingling? Might make the next time they meet up pretty funny.

Even if there is an initial misunderstanding, the dude needs less toxic relationships, and giving him more acquaintances that aren't Kongyou is a good thing.

The perfect is the enemy of the good here.

I feel like this might be a potential trade-off arranged, between 'optimize for most intel on dealing with foreigners' and 'optimize for helping Xuan Shi's personal troubles'. I'm not confident enough to say we should vote with that in mind, but it's another lens we could look through to try and understand what each option will lead to.

I'm all for helping xuan shi make more friends but the second option here really comes off as setting him up on a blind date and uhhhh that's horrible timing from just recently turning him down .

Maybe in a more social setting with more people introducing him to, or letting him network?

Isnt LQ birthday soon? We should have a party and introduce him to different people there.

I'm hesitant in introducing him to a girl (who already has a boyfriend) to a guy we just rejected. There are some real unfortunate implications here that Kongyou especially would twist.

Ignoring the votes for a moment, one thing I think that was setup in this chapter that no one has commentated on is that I don't think Qi is going to get that much of a rank up for the last mission. Mainly because the Sect isn't super happy with her at the moment.

Moreover, I feel Suyin's promotion serves a pretty interesting narrative presence, even if I feel a little unsure of how she got that much of one. I have a feeling she is underselling her role about what she told us, but until then her promotion seems far more sizable than I would expect. Either way, the actual narrative ramifications are interesting, especially in the giant resource jump for both crafting and cultivating she gained.

The promotion isn't entirely due to merit, the sect is also trying to tie her closer to them so that she sticks around rather than becoming a retainer or something. Basically, it's partially due to her future potential on top of her current accomplishments.

Li Suyin doesn't have a boyfriend.

And it's weird to assume that disciples cannot be friends without romantic interest. This is a connection that we're offering that would be of use to both because they have shared interests.

It's so strange how much you guys are freaking out over introducing two people with similar interests together. We do this all the time if we can get away with it because it's helpful if our friends are friends with each other instead of weirdly siloed off.

I mean, we pretty much got told how she did it.
"Oh come off it Suyin," Su Ling replied, rolling her eyes. "You're the one that kept the initiation ceremony going after the Elder and the core disciples got dragged into a fight."
When the underground mission, which was meant to establish a base, almost collapsed because everyone got drawn to fight, Suyin was the one who kept the formations meant to establish the base going. If she hadn't done that then the whole mission would have been for nothing.

Also unlike us she's not attached to anyone so the sect has a chance to keep her, and they want to do so.

She looked up, meeting his eyes and this time it was Xuan Shi who looked away. "...Those who spend their days in thy presence are fulfilled. Miss Ling seems to have skill for defeating the isolation of others, and thou art always surrounded by friends and companions. This one… had perhaps hoped to capture some of that for himself."
Xuan Shi has told us explicitly that he hopes we will help him with his loneliness and lack of friends. That's what this will be read as, not setting him up with a girlfriend. Note how transnational the vote reads: Perhaps you could [do?] him a favor and introduce them again before asking a favor in turn?

We're giving him what he requested, no more nor less.

On second thought, did @yrsillar mean "(...) do him a favor(...)"? 😅

This might go REALLY badly, but its our best chance to blow the whole thing open and look into the Nightmare situation before it gets worse.
EDIT: To elaborate, this is because of her prophetic abilities, among other things.

Suyin has no prophetic abilities.

Kongyou has convinced Xuan Shi that he has terrified us by admitting his interest in us.

Trying to keep our friends away from him is only going to feed into that narrative. "Xuan Shi? Oh he's a creep. You should stay away for your own good."

So far as I can tell, the only real reason not to introduce Xuan Shi is that we'd be afraid it'd look like a further rejection. It'd be one thing if we had another strong reason to do otherwise (@Inferno Vulpix pointing out that "there may be a trade-off in which gets us more information" was a good catch!), but as it stands, we have to be intensely aware that there's a probably-malicious nightmare spirit at his ear... And if they're anything like Sixiang, we can't be confident in hiding anything from them. True, they can always lie, but why make it easy?

Now is the time to be as honest and direct as we can possibly be. The less room there is to twist our actions and our choices, the better.

Doesn't she have Du Feng, the boy who made the flying carpet? They seemed pretty clearly together. Also its the context of rejecting him, and then introducing him to a girl soon after. That looks setting someone up.

They will probably be a bit irriterad. But they cant sabotage her that much, due to having to sabotage CRX at the same time if they do. As CRX gave LQ the OK for the whole thing and the fact that LQ has very officially saved two missions now from more losses.

LQ and CRX getting the go ahead from the Duchess is also a shield.

I think Suyin can be a good influence for Xuan Shi. She might be someone he can talk to and confide into, which is way better than his nightmare spirit 'friend'. Ling Qi is too busy to care for him all of the time >w>
