Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Are we allowed to ask questions?
Like if any of our friends are supposed to be on either mission?
I want to utilize our mobile hard point and hit the barbarians, but if any of our friends are going to be in the ground I want to go.

[] Assault the Cloud Tribe Ritual Site (Offensive Mission, Objectives: Kill and capture enemy combatants, gather intelligence, Survive)
[] Defend the Geomantic Forts (Defensive Mission, Objective: Hold the Line, Defend production students, Survive)

It's good that CRX chose well there. Both CRX and Ling Qi are very good at both of those. The Cloud Tribe Assault would greatly benefit from Ling Qi's scouting and "you don't leave" abilities (and CRX' artillery and support), while the Geomantic Fort mission would greatly benefit from Ling Qi being a mobile hard point (and CRX artillery and support).

So, my take here is that there is three main points that we should be looking at: Cloud Tribe vs Underdark enemies,"Kill/Capture" reputation vs "Defend students" reputations, and "Who would likely be our allies for the mission".

I am actually more interested in the Cloud Tribe than the underdark, myself, as I find their plot thread more intriguing.

As for "Kill vs Defend", I am unsure what I prefer.

It feels like the assault mission is more likely to have our high end offensive friends there (Liao Zhu, maybe Allingge), while Defend is likely to have production students about formations and defensive allies (Xuan Shi, Shen Hu). Wang Chao could be in either.

"That said, I must congratulate you on reaching the Green Foundation Stage," her liege said. "It is an impressive achievement."

"Only as impressive as yours," Ling Qi said. Cai Renxiang was fully foundation and had beaten her by the better part of a month, but the gap in base cultivation was closing.
Threshold, not Foundation.

I am in favor of the Defend option, but the assault does have an objective of gather intelligence which our spying skills may benefit.
The unsaid major component of "Assault" is the reputation it would get us with those that do not wish for the Barbarian threat to be ignored, whereas the "Defend" option has the likely chance for more Sect reputation and thus potential points.

CRX showing off with like A rank tea-making skills, Wang casually explaining the uncomfortable reality of how to make conquest that works; overall pretty nice.

Mission-wise, I'm leaning offensive because ritual site means juicy secrets, and more pragmatically we've seen that we're fine on point-defense but have yet to properly stress-test hammer+anvil mobile hardpoint tactics (LQ's relative lack of dps is offset by CRX's CRX-ness and control-wise we're pretty ok).

My understanding is that the defensive option is doing basically what Wang Chao was ranting about doing: creating a fort in enemy territory to claim it.

Speaking of higher realm cultivators fighting downstairs, I'm willing to bet that Elder Jiao is fully supporting the idea of higher realms being able to fight down under. His work failed down there and given his pride I bet he is itching to get some payback.

Although, I also bet that Elder Jiao's revenge will be very slow, very thorough, and served very cold.

[X] Assault the Cloud Tribe Ritual Site (Offensive Mission, Objectives: Kill and capture enemy combatants, gather intelligence, Survive)
Underground, both of them are essentially in a "shoot stuff" mission, which may make it more difficult for both of them to show off. This may be different above ground, where Cai helps be killy and with capture, while we help gather intelligence.

Hmm.. Would underground option have Renshu there? He's pretty talented, he's skilled in making hideouts, he's skilled in fighting underground.

Maybe? He seems more focused on the hidden and secreted locations. This fortress seems to be more in line with Sun Liling's fortress in the Outer Sect. A big fat announcement that we are here and you can not move us.

Yes, but Wang Chao's Clan is more interested in knowing that the Duchess supports the efforts of those that deal with the Cloud Tribes. Chao supports the war obviously, but we are not going to be the deciding factor in a war across an area the size of Europe. We can, however be part of a decent show by CRX giving a nod that those Clans that defend the Wall are not far from the Ducal clan's thoughts.

Personally, I'm all for either option, because while Shishigui would be fun to see how BADLY they react to CRX I also want to give LWT a spin in full combat flight.

I want to fight the Cloud Nomad some more, their storyline is pretty interesting. Plus it's a capture mission and we are good at that it theory. We might want to practice that.

I am very interested in learning more about the Cloud Tribe. It seems like they present a very interesting contrast to the culture and cultivation practices of the Empire.

We're pretty much perfect for both of these, but I think I'm leaning towards the Cloud tribe option. Between Wind Thief and the fact that we just had an underdark mission the offense option is just barely more attractive. However if we are doing this we are making sure to find a way to use Zhengui on this mission no matter what.

I'm feeling cloud barbarians for some reason. Not entirely sure why, maybe that something in Ling Qi isn't good for defense in this fashion, maybe the Qi drain down below...Probably the Qi drain.

I just want a chance at meeting the bard barbarian again. He was cool. We don't really have any music cultivators in direct opposition to us and I remember Ruan saying music cultivation is hard, putting your heart out into a fight for everyone to see. Understanding what he was saying and having a dialog without words was so so cool.

You're right, our husbandu pool needs some spicing up.

Hmm.

I think Ling QI is pretty damned good at both of these, so the real question is which do we think will better show off cooperation with CRX.

I think I can see ways we could work that either way, but I think the attack might result in Ling Qi acting followed by CRX acting, where the defense will have both working together more continuously? I'm not sure I want cooperation to mean Ling Qi delivering a CRX warhead to the target.
You say that... but what if we ever get a non-damaging Eagle Yeet technique?

Friendly Yeeting sounds marvellously fun.

I'm leaning towards the defensive right now as it plays slightly more to our strengths than the offence does, with Zhengui and all. And it makes me think that we will have more people to buff with our Rank 0 domain effect, which is nice to hand out :)

Edit: Yep, read some good arguments. Am leaning towards the nomads choice now.

Wouldn't the defensive mission play into what we've been practicing with Zhengui lately? Seems to flow well thematically, though I will wait for more discussion before making a final choice.
