"I have a friend who specializes in security formations. I will make sure we have something more potent installed soon,"
Hmmm... I'm not sure if Ling Qi is talking about Xuan Shi or Li Suyin here. I think either of them would be really cool to have work on our house, but I'm more interested to see what Li Suyin is now able to do as a Green in regards to security formations. Having green constructs ready to be activated at a moment's notice would be really cool if a bit unnerving for our poor servants.

Very likely, or at least she'll make very good headway in doing so provided her ambition holds up under constant parental attention and supervision. Xiulan will no longer be constrained by discovering/acquiring resources herself. Since she is very on path for her family they likely have multiple sites and some expertise with making the drugs that will work best for Lanlan.
Lanlan: Daddy.
Dad: Yes pumpkin?
Lanlan: ive come upon a bottleneck, i need a place to do some tribulation, got any?
Dad: *signals with his eyes to someone behind her* sorry honey, all the places we have are in use. Maybe some other day.
.....
Purifier Soldiers outside: Ahhhhhhhh! *gets eaten fighting greens*

[X] Drop the thought, even with this incursion, they had been safe. Increase the security of the house, but let her family stay here. (-2 Green Stones, family remains in unsafe area)

[x] Send Mother, Biyu and the rest of the household away until things settled down. It might cost her, but she could settle her family in a barony a little further north, away from incursions. (-3 Green Stones, small political effort required, safe family, potential emotional conflict?)

Okay. Hear me out.
Xiulan is someone that we have told repeatedly to "be more careful" and she counters every time with "as if you're careful" because we're pretty reckless. But like.
We're not actually that reckless?
We cultivated many ways to be less of a glass cannon, to make sure that we could do "reckless" things while staying relatively safe. The problem is, Lanlan wouldn't have known just *how* tanky we were until the end of year tournament and she might have been in the hospital at that point. I think it's very important that just like everyone around Lanlan is trying to get her to be safer, we should find a way to tell her "don't be safer or slow down, just do this on top of everything else lolol"

She has practiced at length with Zhengui, which I am sure about now seeing the Flak Attacks that I remembered Zhengui practicing with her help. She has a Forest Fire Spirit (linhuo). TRF mechanically gives temp-health boxes and benefits from high Resolve. Wood is the agreement to us, to the ones she loves, that she will value her life outside of just burning it for power. Wood is the agreement to regrow and protect those that she cannot save with damage. Wood is something that we have integrated alongside our flighty and "disconnected" nature, despite the inherent conflict it would seem to have with our build.

For her arc, I think that Lanlan is going to come back with a 4th element kicked into her by her worried parents (or gained by tribulation due to Xiulan's stubbornness). I think Death is a large candidate if Lanlan was on a bad path. Plays into her fatalism about "rather be impactful than alive". Lake is strong for her, her Resolve allows her to keep up appearances of being unharmed even as she is torn apart by her build. It also plays into her love of material. Metal is strong for her, Yanmei has already carved part of the path up and the logic would help her make better decisions despite her emotions.
Wood though. Wood is about her connections and care that she feels for others. The thing is, she doesn't want to burn alone she just doesn't see a way to be connected while also being herself. Han Jian was one of the only people that allowed her that, and eventually even he had to shut her down because she was getting too passionate (overriding perhaps, what would be better sense).
We are one of her only close connections, and she almost saw us die because "she was too slow, too weak." But that's not it at all. We trusted her, *we trusted her* to be able to put the rat down so long as we endured for just a single hit. TRF was the resolve that we invoked that said "We trust our friends to finish the battle so long as we take this hit. We will stand tall over this lone assassin with the strength of the many."
And that's why we need to gift Lanlan our TRF. The problem was not that she was weak, the problem is that she sees herself as a lonely island in a sea of individuals. She has to save everyone. She has to protect everyone. She, she, she. Reminds me of us when we were younger.
We had to let people in at some point, and TRF was one of the main motivators that pushed on our own fear until we overcame it and embraced our connections. There is technically an amount of damage that can save someone, but if Lanlan is wanting more power to make sure she can save who she cares about she is definitely strong enough to cultivate TRF and learn how to Guard things that she doesn't want Burned <3

Lanlan must live! Lanlan for Wood! Lanlan for big hugs plis comeback soon T^T

Voting the opposition out of obligation

*Insert profound logic and reasoning of how this is totes a good idea and stuff that are basically "IT'S FOR THEIR OWN GOOD" kind of justification*

Yeah, no guarantee that "safe" place is safe and even less guarantee that move itself is safe. So what's the point...

"You will have to begin preparing for the journey home soon," Yanmei said quietly, standing up from her seat on the divan. The bowl containing the ruined flesh from her arm vanished in a flash of heat.

"Wait, why must I?" Xiulan began, only for the answer to come to her before she could even finish her words.

"The Sect is at war, little sister. The Gu are no cowards, but the family cannot afford to risk the both us," her Elder Sister said, not turning back to look at her as she swept out of the room. "Rest now, Xiulan, your energies are still unbalanced."

Xiulan stared after her for a moment in silence, and then began to laugh. ...Getting what she wanted indeed.
My Xiulan + Suyin Friendship plan..... 😢

The problem with that is, Xuilan might have already crossed the Rubicon when it comes to her way, and TRF might not be compatible with it. It would still be a useful art for her defense, but unless she's got a bunch of open meridians not in use, then she'd have to pull other arts to make room for it, and that might hurt her ability to fight more than lacking a high-end defensive art would. The same could hold true for opening more meridians to slot it over more family arts.

I feel Lanlan leaving the Sect is gonna hit Ling Qi hard even if they remain penpals.

Meizhen hasn't, and Suzhen was also remarked to be perfectly civil, but I was under the impression that they were the exception rather than norm.

Though, I have to say, for all that Meizhen is consider polite and diplomatic for a Bai, she routinally commits social faux passes with fear aura/killing intent.
Naw, Meizhen is considered socially awkward for a Bai, she engages in little of the usual politicking and intrigue.
So since she's bad at playing the game she doesn't, she just stands at the side radiating the "I'm the most proper Bai lady, do not approach unless you have a good reason"
Hey now. How could you possibly forget the time she called Liling an arrogant tart?
Only ever in private, with Ling Qi alone.
I still say that Wood would be a suitably ambitiously aligned element to coordinate with Xiulan's inclinations, while providing some desperately needed hardiness.

Her tribulation seems to have broke her ability to do Water(and possibly Metal) anymore, and its Way related so hmm. Her Way has something to do with Ambition, and its telling that she can't even tolerate lack of it in those close to her. She disdains what she sees as weakness.

From that, I think she likely can't do Earth, Water, Lake or Wind without some new insight.
Wood and Mountain depends on her Way specifics, and she's never been rational enough for Metal to be compatible to begin with.
Thunder she should have no issue with, but I don't think it would be doing much helping.

She'd be surprisingly compatible with Darkness(Passion, Desire, Want), but I have no idea how Dark Sun could go.
You put safe in quotes as if you don't think they'll be safer there. Well, the vote says pretty clearly that they will be.

The vote is presented from Ling Qi's perspective. Ling Qi still thinks this is merely a local assault. Not enough War to get the broader thrust, or perhaps just more focused on individual matters than strategic.
The problem with that is, Xuilan might have already crossed the Rubicon when it comes to her way, and TRF might not be compatible with it. I'm very sure that she has defensive arts, its strongly in the Sun theme.

As we are going to Have a Barony close to the border one day might as well find out what works and what doesn't now while still close to the relative safety of the sect

Bai Meizhen was considered socially awkward for a Bai, which is why she surprised all her competitors in the family when she brought home the CRX alliance. CRX herself considers Meizhen a deft political player from the start, though, and I think Meizhen having to play with CRX forced her to patch up her social weakness.
Only ever in private, with Ling Qi alone.
While it was, well, in an arguable socially acceptable place, it definitely wasn't in private:
"Did you believe..." Bai Meizhen wheezed, her voice slightly lisped by her bleeding lips. "That the Bai would not develop counters to the abominable fusion of imperial and barbarian arts, you arrogant tart?"

"You think we're gonna lose to a few measly…" the red haired girl slurred as her eyes rolled up in her head and she collapsed, already dissolving into mist.
