We were given responsibility over one village, a village we are not protecting right now.
Coming here to give aid was the right decision, but given the size of the war party, i'm not comfortable leaving it to Zhengui and Xiulan.
We have 2 destinations, but only one of them is our responsibility, and is also not fully crewed because we are not there.
Also, i'd like to interact more with Zhengui, that's part of why we picked the village in the first place.
I was hoping that we will get advance in our skills, we have 4! that had a chance of upgrade in this scene. So for me nothing changed.
[X] Return
I would advise returning, in this fight we didn't have benefits of most of our Domain Insights. I wonder what we can do back to back with Zhengui and Xiulan, our SL 4. It's the same mystery box as going to third village but here we can fight at full power and maybe crash barbs before they could flee.
I don't want to go to the other village. I see merit in the other three options though. We could put our stealth to the test, return to friends and family, or maintain discipline.
This was much better imo. It's clear now that the reds were evacuated from LQ and then immediately left the battlefield rather than escaped by themselves.
Although Ling Qi was told to expect more than the typical half dozen raiders, getting over 100 raiders at just a single village seems like it would be beyond expectations. Since the situation appears to be defying expectations, either waiting for news or returning is the safest decisions. Helping the third village is also appropriate since Ling Qi is part of a larger group that should be cooperating within its ranks. But overextending by hunting down the war leaders when the situation is beyond the norm seems like an easy way to invite a poor outcome in the larger scheme of things.
] Help the other village
[This village is as secure as it can get, all things given, but the other will have had no reinforcements. While she had to hope that this had been the main force… she couldn't be certain. Approach less obviously this time though. She would not give the barbarians the benefit of seeing her coming again. Stealth approach to the final village, unknown enemy composition. Aids defense, but leaves first and second village to their own devices]
[] Return
[If the tribesman launched an attack even half as strong back at the first village, Ling Qi worried after Zhengui and Xiulan. Return and aid them as quickly as possible, though a less obvious approach will be better. Stealth Aproach to first village, leaves the second and third to their own devices. Unknown enemy comp. Aids Zhengui and Xiulan.]
[] ...Wait
[As galling as it is, you have no idea of what the situation is like in the other villages or the greater region at the moment. You do not know if the enemies are going to circle back and return or fly back to the Wall. Stay here, get your wound treated, help where you can, and wait for further intelligence, the messenger corps are still out there, and you told the man you left in charge of your scouts where you were going. Avoid haring off without knowing what's going on. Possible increased casualties due to delay. Possibly avoids wasting time or ending up out of position. Frustration.]
"Ma'am," he stood up and bowed as she stepped in. There was a touch of relief on the middle aged man's features. "I am glad my message reached you. There is a situation. One of the outriders in the northwestern village spotted several tribesman with bonded mounts below the cloudline to our west. Shortly thereafter, the northeastern village reported something similar. They are requesting support."
There is another reported strike force hitting that other village, and if it is as bad as this one, they also probably need help.
I don't think any of these are stupid choices. Right now either we should return to our turf to deal with the uptick in spirit activity we were warned about, we rush to the next village to possibly be the key aspect of their defense, or we sit still for a minute to wait for enough information to make that decision in an informed manner. The key piece of Intel for me is how well Xiulan and Zhengui are managing. Because if they are barely holding on then our decision is already made, that village is our responsibility.
Remember, their where expectations that a beast tide or something like that would hit LQ's own village due to the wakening of the big spirit. So it is not that returning is not defending something.
[] Return

Can't we use the Initiate's Viewing Pool technique to check on Zhengui and Xiulan, like Ling Qi was already doing in her scout routine, to see if this is actually necessary before running back to them? Or is our assigned village beyond even that range?

There was a definite improvement to the end, where it was clear Ling Qi was being matched by the Cloud Nomads, rather than just losing interest. The vote options are an improvement as well. Though I'm sure there were lessons hidden in the other choices, we just didn't have the information for our choices to be meaningful. Bit concerned by the "stealth approaches". It's definitely tactically sound, but it seems like it makes the lesson learned here "assassinate harder" instead of "work more closely with allies to overcome tough adversaries". We'll have to see how we play things moving forwards.
[] Hunt them down
[As long as they are out there, the barbarians could circle back at any time, let them retreat, make contact with Shen Hu, and then go dark and end this threat. You are stronger than any one barbarian, you are sure of it. Trail them as a shadow and strike the moment their guard is down, putting down one or more of their warleaders before they can get defenses up. Very high risk of overextension and injury. Leaves villages to their own defense. Ends threat of group. Loot?]
This is fairly sound in the broader strategic sense, given the mobility of barbarian forces. Opportunities to decisively strike at them can't be that numerous, and success here would be a boon to overall safety in the region. The problem is I just don't want to read this scene. It doesn't strike my interest.
[] Help the other village

This is my strategic preference. Continuing on to gain a fuller understanding of what's happened in the valley, while moving along the trajectory of our first action in response to the crisis. The problem is there's a really high chance we're too late or that we just vote for a stealth ambush when we get there. Neither of those possibilities strike me as interesting.
Strategically sound; it is her assigned village after all and currently has the fewest assigned officers stationed there. Feels like Ling Qi's motives would be selfishly driven though, and I'm not sure that's entirely what we want or would intend. Though who am I kidding, people are worried about our friend and child. Stealth approach leaves open the possibility of a stealth ambush opener, but given the presence of our allies, it at least feels less likely for that to dominate the scene relative actual cooperation. Get to see Zhengui and Xiulan having better teamwork than we do.

Perhaps the most strategically sound option of all, but also potentially boring and/or tragic. Waiting in the central-most location while things develop, so she can respond where she's most needed is a solid decision. Has Ling Qi digest her experiences with the aid of the presence of a friend, and process with the consequences close at hand. In the context of her SCS insight, this is actually an interesting challenge for her- I don't think they're opposed, because exercising patience is a kind of progress for her. No chance of stealth ambushing. Probably what I'm going to vote for.
I...am gonna vote for this one (that is until someone convinces me). I get that some people would find this the boring option, but I think staying here a bit and maybe cooling down (probably not since she's too frustrated) is what we need. We also may have a chance to talk with Shen Hu about what we could do
This option is an interesting mix. The more I think about it, the more I like it. We get to help out with disaster recovery, talk to Shen Hu who we have rapport with, rest a bit so we're in tip-top shape for future response, and we maximize the chance we'll be able to respond to the highest priority issue later, even if the problem might get worse because of the time delay. It's better to show up a bit late to the biggest crisis than guess wrong and miss it completely, I think.
At the same time, the wait is a huge challenge for Ling Qi. That's interesting. It's a high-tension experience. Should be interesting to read.
Trying to play defense on three fronts at once causes a lot of issues. If we can break this enemy force that does something to keep all the villages safer.
