I do also think that any naval forces... who do we have who would be most able to take the shipyards intact? If we are liberating this system we kinda need to have shipyards right there and available to build up an SDF as fast as fucking possible.

Because it seems as if we're going to be inventing Bite and Hold Tactics this decade. :p

We already did that last time we attacked Neon :D

Joking aside, in a sense, this is a boon for us, because if they can be cleared and are willing to remain in service, that gives us a Surprise squadron they weren't anticipating to help protect Barbarun.

Wait, is only the Moon rebelling? Or are both planets doing it?
The moon has the majority of the rebels, with the planet having only a handful in comparison. Think a 80/20 split in size.
I've been thinking on what our worst possible opponent is, and concluded its Genestealer cultists.

Be aware that the Lamenters are currently engaged in the mysterious and eldritch pratice known as "Having A Think" about the entire situation, their place in the Glimmering Federation, the wider state of the Imperium, and the entirety of Humanity.

Hmm, can we ask them to commit to defense, in case an attack comes out from Gathin and makes some real progress/etc? Or would that be more likely to backfire than anything...

Also I'm hopeful that the Civilian worlds mean it'll only be a -1 to Med Services. After all, the Imperium does actually have doctors! Even entire medical schools and so on. It's just that they're usually very unevenly spread, to say the least.

Honestly, I don't think conquering the system changes too much, except maybe that we need to deal with the infra hit in upcoming turns. Definitely take precautions, but let's review the war plan again. Only phase 1 change is that we leave the Taurus' behind, and move up the defense line in phase 2 if Neon goes down instead of up.

Phase 1;
1.) The removal of all Void Construction and Warfare capabilities from Quintura Diablo, Brigach, Malras Zeta, Saget, and Kriegar.
2.) Rush construction of additional Space Defenses in Barbarun and Brotar to hold off a Neon incursion for enough time for reinforcements to arrive.
3. Reinforcement of Barbarun with the five Aries-Secundi left without an Andromeda with the proposed Fleet Composition.
4.) The destruction of the planetary military potential of all systems of Neon up to and including Kriegar.
5.) Setting the logistical groundwork for the invasion of Quintura Diablo and the rest of the Protectorate in the coming decades with the rush construction of a batch of Taurus'.
6.) Rush construction of an Andromeda to ferry all left-behind Voidships to defend Barbarun according to Phase 2 1.a., alongside the newly constructed Taurus', though they are left within Brotar.

We just keep pushing into Neon space, skipping destroying the void infastructure in Quintura Diablo for now. Up to and including Kriegar. Invade Quintura Diablo now. The primary thing that changes is that we leave the Taurus' in Quintura Diablo with a couple SAGs while the rest of the fleet keeps going forward, and the new andromeda ferries the new Taurus' there to help out as soon as they're done. We have 10 years to finish the invasion, supported by the local rebels.

Phase 2;
This is set to occur once the inevitable counter-attack occurs. Projections and intelligence indicated that Neon cannot take more than half its fleet from Valhidem without risking a collapse of the front.
1.a.1.) In case Neon attacks Barbarun, the fleet, then around Kriegar, will strike at Forge to destroy their shipyards and raze their military industry, ensuring that any losses taken by Neon are now practically permanent, trading Barbarun and its Defense Stations and Aries-Secundi for the time needed.
1.a.2.) Alternatively, if the fleet has taken too much damage that cannot be repaired with the aid of the Proofs, then the fleet will swing around and destroy the attacking Neon Fleet with a backstab in concert with the local defenders.
1.b.) In case Neon attacks Kriegar, a Fighting Retreat will commence with the #1 priority being the destruction of the Nova Cannon, should it be present. Systems will be traded for casualties and time.
2.) The rush construction and delivery of a batch of Crux to Barbarun, ferried by the newly constructed Andromeda to reinforce against a second Neon Retaliation fleet.

This part is different - but only if the Neon response comes down the Kreigar instead of up towards Barbarun. If they go towards Barbarun, the only change is that we now have Quintura Diablo. If they go down towards Quintura Diablo instead, then we still can trade the systems of Kreigar and Brigach for casualties and time. And then we have whatever Quintura Diablo can make as an SDF in ~10 years to help out. In the worse case scenario, we can retreat further to Brotar, and Neon might be distracted trying to retake Quintura Diablo and not go for the knockout.

Finally, let's try to think about how Neon will react to this. I think it'll make them more likely to go down, try to prevent us from fully taking Quintura Diablo. I think that's a good thing - I'd prefer not to use Barbarun as ablative armor if we didn't have to, and bleeding them of ships and time through Kreigar and Brigach is my preferred strategy. If we can slow them down, they'll need to go turn around to deal with Chaos.

Be aware that the Lamenters are currently engaged in the mysterious and eldritch pratice known as "Having A Think" about the entire situation, their place in the Glimmering Federation, the wider state of the Imperium, and the entirety of Humanity.
I think this means we 1000% need to support them next turn. This is probably the tipping point in how involved they are with us in the future. Alternatively, we can ask them to investigate potential chaos corruption in Quintura Diablo? That might be a bad idea.

Several of the Ciaphas Cain Novels have great depictions of Genestealer Cults if you need a reference. Including Cults where the Hive Fleets are nowhere nearby.

There was a neat situation where the Cultists appeared to be three separate factions until Cain figured out their defensive placements conveniently overlapped in too many places.

Plus I doubt you haven't already considered it.

Edit:
Emperor's Finest, that's the one!

Thread's literally playing the "Bet It All On Societal Buffs" Faction that grows stronger the more it cleaves to its chosen ideology and wonders why good stuff happens when they start doing just that. :V
Well... When you say it like that. But it is 40k so it's kinda hard to believe it.

So we help them get away from the Imperium nastiness, teach them about the Star Child and the rest we decide later I guess.

... Ahh, I think I get it.

It's our acts in Gathin coming back to roost, huh?

We upheld ourselves with the strictest discipline, while theirs collapsed trivially, and a lot of their senior officers got BLAMMED because they choked when it actually mattered. We evidently had at least a polite understanding with a Chapter of the Angels of Death, and not only did we allow them to stand up against Chaos, but we didn't strike in their moment of weakness and left on schedule, letting them prevent a major strongpoint from falling to the Archenemy.

There were too many witnesses to that whole business for it to be buried, and so Word got Out. And they're starting to wonder. "Hey, if these guys are supported by the Angels of Death, and and they fought the Archenemy with even better discipline than we did. Are we sure we're working for the right successor state right now?"

Couple this with their--presumably massive--investments, probably funded by stripping their territories bare of every stray scrap of manpower and material they could squeeze, and cutting their defenses to the bone so that Neon could take Valhidem--and unlike most Imperial forces, they can't put dudes from out of the region into the defenses and garrisons because that's how you make sure they have no investment in the local forces and thus will happily conduct any atrocity they want. If they're getting scout reports too, they'll see how prosperous our territories are becoming, look at their own poverty despite a vastly greater industrial base--and tongues have started to wag, huh?

I can't believe they surrendered. No, really I can't. I'm staring at it and all I can think is "what the fuck just happened".

At least there will be less blood shed(sorry Khorne maybe another time) so I guess playing "the good guys" was worth it and considering the god we are worshipping the only choice that works.
I personally think that (not!chaos) Alpha Legioners, not used to dealing with good guys, are trying to "stop" us from weakening the neon too much by giving us a planet to tie us down to some extent while slightly boosting our fleet so we won't be as bloodthirst/scared of neon.

I am sure that those ships and rebels on both planets have a few Alpha infiltrations, which are probably there to learn what the hell our deal is; there probably will be some chaos-aligned ones to basically purge the legion and let us know that Neon is likely to compromise and is likely fall to chaos.

The uprisings themself are likely a secret test of character, we obviously didn't plan to take any territory the Hydra probably saw that by looking at our fleet composition (and if not, then they decided to help us take system quicker so we may fortify quicker) and decided to trigger their plants by simply telling citizens the (partial) truth about us and Neon the one on Minor being a gift and lure while the one on Major being both a test of skill and character?
Are we willing and able to adapt our plans?
Will we abandon the innocents when it is unfavourable for us to save them?
Can humanity we be both strong and good?

The Lamenter thing isn't largely covered by Action Investment, it's covered by being a Worthy Successor to the Imperium, that can be strong and better for the people than the original version. So far, we've been getting straight-As there I believe.

Are we sure we're working for the right successor state right now?"

Don't forget that we did ditch the imperial Aesthetic, so that definitely makes this much harder to pull off. And only the moon is in major rebellion. But yeah, this is the kind of snowball that causes rebellions. The problem is that they almost always fall to chaos, but we have good protections against that.

Which brings me to the next point - if we don't get involved in the rebellion now, then they're probably going to get all chaos-y. That's just what happens, especially with chaos in shouting distance.

Without fail. Imperials only have two settings. Chaos Cultist or Dogmabot. We need to intercept them mid-faction change and turn them navy blue instead. Wololo

BTW, yes, I am suggesting that by going full iconoclast/Starchild, we have a chance of getting the Alpha Legion's successor chapter; the Omega Chapter with a slightly taller chapter master than normal

If Omegon being alive is still a thing, yeah, he'd probably like the cut of our jib. And he's straight up, undoubtedly the Weakest Primarch in every respect, so he wouldn't even be game breaking.

Snip

Ok it wasn't as bad as I thought, which is a good thing.

Yep. Space marine's having a think is such an eldritch practice because it induces something called, ahem.

IDEAS

So if we can give them some help next turn I think we can at least make them neutral if the imperium called on them. Now granted our actions are not the full 3 these next few turns, so we might need to revisit the idea when we see our results.

Can humanity we be both strong and good?
Ah the good old fashioned we don't know what alpha is doing. Honestly knowing them we could either be a minor point in their plan, a back up plan, a major corner stone, or they don't care about us to much and are testing us.

I am also left to wonder if it's just this planet rebelling or if we are about to enter the Neon vs Super Neon civil war. Also...yeah definitely a "Need more intel" moment. Well no plan survives first contact and all that.

*Looks at your Research Perk literally stating that you get Local Hereteks on your side by offering to allow them to research. Automatically.*
Yeah, wonder why any planet, especially those who know about you after you burned down their shipyards capable of building Heavy Cruisers, would have a percentage of people who'd be eager to join you.
Its the Hereteks?
Neon is about to lose a system to us because of blueballed toasterfuckers?

Enjoying the first visible outing of that perk!

Not a small one either, this is likely the most developed single system in the Protectorate outside of their heartlands.

There's a solid chance it won't actually cost us much Inf to seize and integrate it, and a non-zero chance that we'll have gains. A Civilized World by definition is stable and self-sufficient, and requires no direct attention to support. (Though in exchange, they don't produce much of value either.)

@Alectai i dunno i like your plan. Changing plans to support the rebels smells like a good idea to me since:
A.) It means there exist people within Neon willing to defect to our side, be it this moon and possibly other places too, so long as we stick to our moralea and willingless to lend a helping hand against chaos.
B.) Oh sweet those surrendering ships mean WE get more ships.
C.) Oh those surrendering military personel meams WE get more personel.
D.) We can sit down their ships pilots and crew members for some intel gathering on what Neon has been up to.
E.) We should peobably submit them to bloodwork and gene testing for any defects under inferior Neon medical care, because we have free healthcare! (That one guy mentioned genestealers, and now im worried theyre gonna steal our jeans!)
F.) Hey more psykers for our choirs. The mutant population loves us!
H.) More infrustructure for us!

...

What about my plan says we don't do that shit?

This is basically "Pause for a few weeks to send for ground forces to support the rebels, and while we're doing this, figure out What The Fuck, once we know What The Fuck, continue the Plan based on what we learn."
