"Five-hundred dollars," Alchemist told him without bothering to turn around. "Per head."

"...That's all?"

"Yep," Alchemist agreed as he clicked 'Send' and sent his message off to a variety of institutes around the world. "That's all."
But this is America. It should be $500 to be entered into the system by the receptionist, $3000 to have the nurse ask you 5 boiler plate questions the doctor will ask again when they come in, then $4230 to have the doctor tell you to eat healthier, exercise more, and work less.

alchemists and batmans interactions are so funny to me for some reason. anyways thanks author

Aside from Batman playing straight man to Alchemist's antics, Batman is the closest thing Alchemist has to a peer and confidant.

Batman knows/understands the most about Alchemist's meta-knowledge, life situation, and mental state. The only other Justice League members who comes close are Wonder Woman (views Al as a "mad seer with delusions of sanity") and Doctor Fate (not to first time a "real" person has been trapped in "fiction" or vice versa).

It helps that Batman empathizes with the dilemma of a sane person pretending to be crazy to mask their fears and insecurities, a previously normal person ill-equipped for the burdens placed onto him and with no release or escape from said burdens.

This is Gotham, per head does NOT mean per person.
In this case it does. No one in Gotham knows how to keep some one alive missing their head or a body yet. One or the other is usually lethal in less than five minutes. If it was Metropolis, then you have to worry about partial cyborgification or alien tech doing something weird. Constantine would probably tell you if some one managed it with magic for the price of a LOT of decent beer.

Al has the polymorph spell, if some smart ass did tell him 1 head =/= 1 person, he'll probably turn them into an actual ass (hopefully temporarily).

Now I am thinking about the day they need deniable heroes that can react to big things publicly, but not be connected to the League. Cue Alchemist making some kind of Golems/Androids to fill that niche.

It could be pretty interesting if Alchemist entered a Super Hero game to farm items needed to make his pseudo heroes realistic, maybe a game with Micro Transactions translating to things like a blueprint for transformations. So like in the Avengers game they are shutting down, you can buy the Grey Hulk skin, and he gets an item/blueprint that he could put on a golem/android and it would turn to a life like version of said skin.

Actually it would be funny if Alchemist was conned while in the Avengers Game, namely the characters acted wooden and lifeless, and almost robotic. But cause of their interactions with him they come back to life, only pretending to still be like that, and they use this to essentially use him like an Ark. Because their world is ending and they are aware of it, basically cause of said shutdown.

It would be a funny thing with Al having to approach the League and introduce him to a lot of refugees from a shutdown game, who tricked him into bringing them back to DC Young Justice world. Though Batman while upset would likely see a use for them, namely as a resource to call on when things are dire. Seeing as they likely had Hank Pym shrink the Helicarrier to smuggle it into Alchemist's realm, well it would likely appeal to Bruce having access to the plans for a mobile command center like that.

Aside from Batman playing straight man to Alchemist's antics...
I think what's great is that alchemist also plays straight man to Batman's antics. They're both completely insane and completely logical in different ways. Batmans a pragmatic super genius but is still affected by superhero logic. Alchemist likes telling the truth but especially when the truth is completely unbelievable.

Another way of saying 'Per Person'

Per person he needs to heal

This is Gotham, per head does NOT mean per person.

In this case it does. No one in Gotham knows how to keep some one alive missing their head or a body yet. One or the other is usually lethal in less than five minutes. So no head?

Great chapter as always, Alchemist's shenanigans are always the most entertaining part of this story.

Anyone else think Alchemist might not just give the $500 to each person he heals? It isn't like he needs that money himself, at all.
So using the opportunity to both tweak Bruce's nose, yet make the situation better and lighten the load/stress of the man at the same time sounds like something right up his alley.

Its gonna be the various petty criminals that had there arms broken from the last time Alchemist, et all were in town.

I have re read and cought back up. is Freddy possessed or just pissed, Al's gonna need to explain the whole I'm sorry I sent you to get torn up didn't know I accidentally gave you guys feelings. Glad to see bruce and him are able to rib each other and not take it to personally, Talia thinks they have a different kind of relationship dosent she since I believe it was her who was spying on them talking on the roof that time. Jinx dose still have an egg of her own got it from the dragons in that final fantasy world when one of them sacrificed itself to make it.The green lanterns will probably be pretty devided on what to do about the whole bringing back magic thing if the one that's gonna visit even tells the others, also they get must get bored to, not all of the maltusions(probably misspelled that guardians of oa). Also fun random info humans and Martians used to be a merged species as in one, scared the shizbit out of the Oa folks before lanterns existed technically first thay took magic away hopeing it would weaken them started killing everything so thay had to let it trickle through limited most of it to earthish, they then divided them into what would become burning Martians and what they called the pale ones(pale as in hollow of weak)....humans, who by the way they considered a waste product in the process and full expected the weak things to die out nearly immediately. Imagine their surprise when they come to check on the Martians and modifie them into modern ones only to see humans still plodding along wacking sticks and rocks together. Also learned that not all of them rember this since it was a looooooonnnngggg time ago also i believe some shady shit whet down with all their memories, i think half of this happend before they ticked off dream and the other arond when they changed burning Martians into non burning ones was after. Also lots of ret cons.🤷‍♂️

dang that's...cheap...the average person may look at that and say it's not but...when just going to the doctor to be told it's a cold runs more than that? yeah it's a steal...and the fact that Bruce Wayne can say he brokered a charity deal out of it is also a big point.
I do wonder how long it would take before the Medical profession starts raising a stink over it though...because AL right here? is SEVERELY undercutting them.

I can't believe no one has commented on the army of trolls ready to start a flame war. I didn't even think about that until you mentioned it. Beautifully done sir.

Honestly, I get why it needs a lot of build up and prep work to flow right, but the more times I reread this the more I really truly want to watch Alchemist, Jinx, and Kar'yashlan tear Zeus asunder. Every little thing about him in this story makes me want his blood more and more. Maybe stuff him in Prometheus' tomb when they're done.

Al's team could probably take him, now. The rest of the pantheon, though? That'd be the real issue.

It's part of why the Poseidon Summoning is a big deal. It's an opportunity for Al to clear one of the biggest threats from the field in a non-lethal manner.

Yeah, killing Zeus is easy, and they can do it quick enough for him to not cause problems, but the rest can, and what they can do is devastating on every level, physically, socially, and economically they can ruin the world, along with the Titans getting ideas and causing more problems, it isn't wrong to say that the Greeks make their problems (except the entire Kronos situation) and make it everyone else's problem, cause their petty shits like that, with the exception of Hestia, Hades, and maybe Hephaestus, they aren't petty, or petty enough to fuck over people cause of something they did.
