So, as far as being a distraction Bloodborne is cool and all...but how did Alchemist turn it from memories playing a (interesting, but obviously fake) game into something that not only thoroughly convinced two psychics (who should nominally have MORE flexible and detailed attention for thoughts) that they were real, but also contained enough actual Eldritch Insight to drive Psimon (further) around the bend...and also make his brain writhe and not go into shock upon exposure to open air despite being mostly a pile of fat and neurons?

We know Alchemist has had Eldritchy knowledge before, but all of that has either been comic knowledge largely forbidden or beyond mortals inside the DC multiverse, or it's been his name that was specifically banned by Gaia. Not converting a normal memory unrelated to deep DC lore into something memetically hazardous (though how much so is a little hard to say as M'gann is literally an alien, and Psimon was predisposed to crazy).
Remember that the DREAMING is connected to the Greater OMNIVERSE, so the Outer Gods of Bloodborne can be created in DC (more like an iteration of them comes into being )if you Know the NAMES of such BEINGS to casue the to Arise in the DREAMING since they are IDEAS, which unfortunately Alchemist does know since he played the Game and Explored the Lore Which tells us theses things. So with them in the Memorys they Learned such things from an BABY OUTSIDER (Alchemist + Void Dragon)

So Psimon having the Knowledge of Names (possibly confirmation that the Omniverse is a thing) and him being a above average Psionic means his thoughts have more WEIGHT then Thousands of Regular Mortals Praying/ Thoughts. You can get where this is going.

But she had to admit. Anthropomorphized airplane pornography was incredibly distracting.

And also a seriously strong -What the ever loving hell is wrong with him?- moment.

All's fair in love and war! Doubly so if you combine the two. Also, another reminder that Miss Martian is a pure, sweet, naive cinnamon bun. Honestly, I'm surprised she hasn't run across worse normally.
-then that finally settled on to something called Bloodborne.

His eyes had seen too much! Had seen too much and understood so little!

A thousand eyes, open inside, to grant me sight to see the end... A thousand eyes; the curse of the wise. Into the madness I descend!

It would make for a better vacation than what I've already got planned for him. The culture, the food, the violence... Could make for a good little segment!

Poor Alchemist. Every time he tries to do something 'easy' or 'relaxing,' everything hits the fan. At this point, I almost don't want to suggest potentially dangerous visits just in case something else follows him home. Still gonna tho.

Speaking of! You know what I think would be an interesting visit? Metal Gear! Specifically, Revengeance so you can get one of those absolutely absurd power-suits, like what Sam has, that lets fit - but unaugmented - humans throw down with a Metal Gear. Admittedly, slightly redundant with Dragon-form covering his natural physical weaknesses, but man. Imagine that thing with his buffs! Plus, I kinda want to see Alchemist just fuck with Sam, Bladewolf, and Armstrong. That, and just sharing the memes that've cropped up over the years about it.

That's a little open for interpretation, but considering the fact that with this iteration of the Gamer all those game worlds are real and in DC a concept can have metaphysical weight... Even saying the name of a boss in a video game who's an eldritch being might draw them into your world. Plus, something that crops up in Gamer fics is the theme of memories of games being more real than they were before gamerification. Admittedly, that's to make Skills a little less jarring to learn, but the same could be going on here and Alchemist might not even realise it.

That, or it's purely DC fuckery because DC. Like, seriously, there's a lot of weird shit that happens completely on accident even without Names, elder beings, or primordial powers being involved.

And so begins the forging of Alchemist's Rogues Gallery! We had a bit of a false start with the Dovahkiin, but we're finally getting somewhere.

I just like the idea of Al bringing seven plagues down upon DC through psychic shenanigans or snooping magicians. Accidental dovahkiin, accidental eldritch abominations, accidental daemon invasions... you get the idea.

My interpretation is that Psymon's Bloodborne fit is basically psychosomatic. He is psychic and had had an idea forcibly implanted, and it is causing his powers to basically destroy him trying to match it. He's having hysterical symptoms of real Yharnam madness.

Alchemist's Guide on Counterintelligence Operations. Be absurd. Be honest. No one can tell the difference.

Very fun chapter. Not for Robin though. He's having a hard time being the only baseline human in the team. Which could be problematic down the line. With magic and powers on hand with Alchemist and Batman's no metahumans (?) rule in Gotham...

Also. Slightly disturbing with Psimon. The nature of the gamer and Alchemist's soul coming from a higher plane of creation where the media reflects a LOT of worlds and universes makes him a vector for a lot multiversal fuckery.

Bloodborne Bialya, anyone?

Thanks for sharing.

So looks like Psimon is part of the Hunt? Will he have the powers from Bloodborne or will it all be in his head?

He can enter other universes, even ones that were games, for quests. Apparently he decided Bloodborne had good loot.

I was wondering whether M'Gann would have side effects from Bloodborne's Insight. I didn't expect it to affect Psimon.

I wonder whether M'Gann is immune due to being an alien? Or her strong will, although that wouldn't change the fact she gained Insight, just how she responds to it.

On the plus side, if she needs more eyes, she can just grow them.

Edit:

Bloodborne Bialya, anyone?

On the plus side, he only got Insight, not access to the Blood, so no Beasts.

On the other hand, Insight can easily spread. He probably doesn't have enough of it, nor is he smart enough, to make the Caryll Runes or summon Elder Gods. Access to the arcane is quite possible though, if they're willing to listen to the ramblings of a madman. Hell, even killing him wouldn't properly help. Just seeing him might inflict Insight due to his visible brain, and Madman's Insight spreads even after death.

Of course, that's all assuming he survives having his brain exposed.

Megan wouldn't be able to join them if she was actively shielding the team, as it would require enough effort and focus that she would be rendered immobile for the duration of her efforts and she wouldn't be able to facilitate mental communications.

That also meant that she wouldn't be able to monitor the enemy forces, or redirect them with mental prodding or commands.

A challenging mission had suddenly become very, very difficult!

And this is why the military tries not to have Special Snowflake Soldiers.

I remember a comment from another story.
To paraphrase: "Human Telepaths are incredibly uncommon. Not because it's impossible, but because everyone thinks in such a unique way that any mind-reader would come to the conclusion that everyone else is incurably insane."

I wonder if the 99 insight transferred over to Alchemist after this event. If not now then perhaps after he meets Simon says in person. Alchemist may subconsciously still think of Bloodborne as still a game, but having it thrust in your face could "unlock" your built up Insight. Which now I'm wondering how Terra-Chan will deal with a new stat forcefully adding itself to the system

Roll a Sanity check!

The "grant me eyes" thing was foreshadowed with the Nyan Cat Meme.
I was really expecting for Megan to grow eyes inside her brain and then complain about the darkness.

In the game, the Hunter really grows eyes inside their skull. You can see them by causing the camera to clip through the head and show the brain.

Well he is a Wyrmling Void Dragon so he naturally has Insight and then you have to add what ever he gained with the time he spent in the VOID interacting with any OUTSIDERS that where Interested in his floating soul that was surviving and Floating through the VOID (while probably shifting Sanity's) before Terra-chan decided to adopt the Baby OUTSIDER and raise him on GAMER MILK.

Ah, one expects Psimon to be repeating the chant soon enough.

Grant us eyes, grant us eyes! Plant eyes on our brains, to cleanse our beastly idiocy!

Why would Alchemists MEMORY of the GAME Bloodborne have an Eldritch effect on Psimon?
Well you see, as many Bloodborne fans will tell you the lore is deep, complex, and demands deep contemplation and theory crafting to understand what's happening. Then Al got some Eldritch Truth, people usually connect information to something within their sense of scale, saying something is X feet long doesn't quite grok the way saying something is however many football fields long. So, rather than watching Al's Bloodborne run, Psimon and M'gann watched the Twitch stream with live commentary on all the the Eldritch shenanigans and the otherworldly forces at play.

In response to how Bloodborne could infect Psimon-

The reality of DC is much closer to fiction than truth.
Something that helps a bit, considering otherwise J'onn would have been asking Alchemist why he thinks of everything as though it looks like a cartoon.

An initial scene, for a scrapped version of this story in which Alchemist says 'Fuck the hero thing entirely!' and would have gone on to do business involved Alchemist being enthralled by Queen Bee and then explaining to her that she's not real. She's just an imaginary character in a childrens cartoon.

Then when she would argue about it, he'd tell her to look at her hands. Look at her fingerprints. Really, really look at them. Every curve and whorl... That doesn't exist because the show wasn't made with that kind of budget.

Cue her Zero Summing out of reality when she realizes she doesn't exist.

"Look at your hands, they don't have fingerprints!"

"What are fingerprints and why should my hands have them?"

"..."

"I think one of us is delusional, but everybody in the world would agree it's not me."
