Prince Aladdin Quest (Disney Villains *Almost* Victorious)

We may get such an action upon completing the basic training actions. And more stats are never a bad thing given what the rolls of this quest are like at times.

Really not a fan of Shan Yu's random bailout to return to the status quo, right when we could have had a serious shakeup in the China situation. It seems like a huge waste, and just makes the stakes of rival reports in general seem a lot lower.

I don't believe that's how training works. They're always available, but the DC to attain workable results increases with each success until we might as well not try. Anyway, they only give +1 on a success, a trait if the roll is over 95, or +2 if Chiron was assigned to help. Considering how Diamond in the Rough works, we're better off aiming for crits, or bringing Faria on adventures with Aladdin and using his teaching trait to gain stats on crits.

I appreciate the honest feedback. While I'm not going to retcon what I've already posted, I think from here on out there won't be any rerolls for Rival Reports offered.

I did want to see what happens when one of the "victorious" villains ends up loosing in the long run, unable to actually hold onto what they've gained, and it really did look like we'd see that with Shan-Yu. Oh well, Scar seems to be up on the chopping block as well, let's see what happens.

Depending on your actions you may get your chance sooner rather than later. Scar took that kneecapping coming off of a 90, so it's going to take several more hits to put him down.

I mean, going by canon, Scar's fall would come sooner or later, even if there's no Simba to take him down directly. He might hold on for a while, but the way he's overhunting his territory, and the way he treats even loyal subordinates, it's only a matter of time.

They're scrambling to turn back the tide while still keeping their defenses up; and have accepted assistance from Lemuria in the form of soldiers and even some clergy to deal with the influx of refugees' spiritual needs.

Crap. I was afraid of that.

If we don't take them over this turn Lemuria will probably get them.

I know people might be cautious of grabbing them now that the fish people are messing with it but I'd rather nip this in the bud then let them take the whole thing then deal with it.

Seems like we have our next crisis.

In my opinion, its a pretty drastic toss up. Either we pick up the nation, piss off Lemuria, and end up with potential enemy fish people infiltrators in our territory; or we let them have it and they get more sea access and man power and income.

I honestly would prefer to not piss off Lemuria directly by trying to take what they are making roads to get. It keeps potential fish cultists out of our empire and also doesnt give them reason to be mad at us. Right now we are a potential recruit and potential rival, I would rather not piss them off before we have to and make us only rivals.

A spy network that we establish next turn in the eastern satraps would be finished before the are folded into Lemuria if we roll well as well, meaning we would avoid having to risk potentially more difficult intrigue rolls initially while also giving us the potential to see what exactly happens to places Lemuria takes under its wing.

I think a spy network getting a foothold in a territory that we can use to gain a spy network in a rival nation once its dissolved into it is better than a potentially compromised region getting folded into our territory and pissing of the potential rival.

I almost feel sorry for him. ALMOST.
I legitimately do. I mean, he's an asshole... but I had high hopes in seeing Temujin in a different coat. I wanted to see that, as terrifying as it would have been for us.

As to our new neighbor... I am not anti-Cthulhu. I'd rather he not wake but I'd treat with those of his in good faith, if guarding myself as I would guard myself around anyone. The world is filled with dangerous powers but they need not be the enemy today.

The alternative? Cooperate. Help them in this move but make sure we keep a foot in the door as it were. Be an asset, if an independent one.

We aren't a hypocrite: If you can't take care of your affairs, another will do it for you. It doesn't need to be us and we should live and breath this truth.

They are playing the game in a way we can not in good faith, living those words, contest... whether or not there is something darker beneath their waves. So we should vocally give our approval and help as many as we can ourselves, even if we aren't the prime mover.

The issue is that this isn't Cthulhu himself we are dealing with. We are dealing with a hostile force of fish people who want to rise up and conquer the surface world in order to prepare it for their masters. Cthulu is a basically neutral natural disaster if more horrifying, the fish people are an army that want to conquer land dwellers and rule over us.

... They arent colonists or an ordinary people, they are an actively hostile race of cultists planning on taking over the world. You cant be allies with that without asking for them to twist you to being their servants.

You are aware that part of their life cycle involves killing humans to fertilize and feed their spawn, right?

Do we know that In-Character? Because otherwise, the action comes off as suddenly turning on a neutral party

Which is why we can just establish a spy network and let them have the region. I'm not asking to rush to steal the nation or attack them, but ANY plan that involves cooperating with them gives me a 1000 yard stare for a very good reason

Actually no. That would be more of an issue. From my experience with Lovecraft's works it has Deep Ones as either spawning by their own efforts (Deep One on Deep One) or as part of a hybrid life cycle where they mate with a human and produce human-passing children that take forty or so years to stop passing. And they predated human beings by whole ages of the earth. Being obligate parasitic wasp-equivalents would absolutely be news to me.

If that is the absolute truth then you are correct.

There really is no way to act that doesn't paint us as an opportunist. Even if they were known to us in their entirety we'd still need to make this into the world's friendliest cold war just to not have people fortifying themselves against us.

I'm not familiar with the needing human blood to hatch part, but given part of the deal to work with Innsmouth was human sacrifices, It would not surprise me if that was a part of the book I forgot about

To my understanding (full or flawed as it may be) Deep Ones are more human than other Lovecraftian Beings and as such considered more morally reprehensible than the other bigger things.

The big things are so far beyond humans that saying it's like people with ants is still wrong. On the other hand The Deep Ones are more cats actively playing with baby mice.

@TempestK Would establishing a spy network in the Eastern satraps result in us gaining a spy network foothold in Lemuria if it got dissolved into them? Because if so that would be an excellent strategic choice to avoid a likely much higher intrigue check

We've taken over two other countries in two turns. In what way is diplomatizing a third out of character for us?

The first had bandit trouble and corrupt nobles, the second bandit problems, and if we go for three it will be for... bandit problems.

I'd rather us get them than they be mind controlled or corrupted or whatever. We're pretty nice actually!

The issue here is that they likely already have infiltrators. Dissolving them into our nation would both piss of lemuria if they wanted the region, but also would result in the evil fish people cult having people in our territory without us having ANY way of knowing it.

They are coming for us anyway. I'd rather they be as limited as possible.

Their MO is to first infiltrate a nation and then begin subverting them until its too late to fight back. If we establish a spy network in the Eastern Satrap and let them have it we will eventually find out about the fishy bullshit happening, which will both give us an in universe reason to protect ourselves from that potential tactic as well as give us knowledge to help fight it.

I do not want any of them anywhere in our territory until we know what we are dealing with
