[X][Research1] Cheap Steel (29/60) [Industrial][Open]

Cheap steel is critical for rails cost reductions, and rails should be providing drips to telegraphy anyway.

I'm of a mind to go thermodynamics over electromagnetic theory, mostly because better steam engines and more IC increasers are going to be gated behind it. Don't get me wrong, both electromagnetism and thermodynamics are enormous gateway techs, but since thermodynamics is an industrial, we can combo it with cheap steel and an industrial research boost or two to one turn both options. Getting the most bang for our buck, if you will, since we need cheap steel asap anyway.

Information theory ho!

Yes. It is a different set of theory and evidence from Darwin, but it is basically "Here is a coherent framework by which species can change over time"
Personally, I loved how you wrote that, especially towards the end. You drew in a lot of concepts we've been tinkering with over the course of these quests. "Darwin's" attitude about god and creation was great example of it. Thank you.

Looking at it, I'd say that it's an attitude that (if it's wide spread) could result in a stronger Social Darwinist movement.

It's unique and fitting due to the way the world developed, in part because of our actions. It'll have to be seen if it's for the better. Lets hope the not!Catholic Church is as stubborn as it was in the otl, because the not!protestants are likely going to be useless against this.

Electromagetism may unlock electric motors and generators. I bet we can unlock hydro power with it.

Is it bad that I want a civ option to go with broadcast power over lined power? Tesla had an interesting idea. Edison just had an idea that could actually make money.

I wonder how long it will be until the Sketch get Geopolitics theory. We're checking all the boxes for a continental Eurasian power controlling the "Heartland".

AN on Romantic Paternalism:

The Highlanders and the Saffron Islanders are eligible for getting sphered by us. If they refuse our ambassadors, our Royalists will immediately start calling for benevolent annexation to bring the poor backward idiots in line, for their own good.

Also if the Black Sheep do fracture, both halves of the former Black Sheep Empire will become Secondary Powers and be eligible for getting sphered by us. The Eastern Black Sheep can get back up to a Great Power rank by annexing the Maharathan, but that's unlikely to work out well for them.

Ehem it's finally time them...

Gylmaryn Paternalism here we go! Eating everything and everyone as cutely as Kirby!

With Paternalism coming up I think Beh becomes a big question. Stymyr gets sphered HARD, but Beh also has a good deal of Hes influence and Hes may see an attempt to sphere them as a counter to their influence and spark WW1 to stop "DC aggressive diplomacy".

I think we should avoid trying to cut Hes out of Beh. If we sphere Beh it should be expressly a shared sphere between Hes and us. Perhaps enforced neutrality with Beh forced to act as a buffer state. Both DC and Hes agree to support Beh indeoendance VS any agressor (exspecially the other) and Beh signs a defensive pact with both the DC and Hes.

Hes gets REALLY solid assurance that Ochior will fail if they want to move north. Hes and DC get a neutral buffer state jointly sphered and mostly ignored so the two best armies in the world don't rub shoulders.

And seeing as any DC X Hes war is gonna happen in Beh lands ANYWAY, agreeing to side with the defender isn't arduous when they are gonna ether be enough to hold the line or fold like a house of cards with little middle ground.

Harken upon my words, ye who vote for electromagnetic theory! I have objections to raise, for I am of the opinion that thermodynamics are superior, not only because they will allow for more efficient steam engines and guns, as has been mentioned, but because a boost industrial research action would catch both Thermodynamics and Cheap Steel - making our research more efficient.

Sold due to double dipping research boosts.

yep also sold on that. Industry is what we need the most, so the more efficient it is to boost it the better.

I also hope explosives are an industrial tech. Triple dipping sounds so much fun.

We just need 8 more electro votes to switch sides.

Anyway, here's to making a case for Electromagnetic Theory.

Doing it gives us both an extra supporter for spectroscopy and Hiding in the Rinbow. THermodynamics only supports spectroscopy.

Hiding in the Rainbow has stalled and requires further advancements (among other things), choose a project
