Inca Darwin, eh? Makes me wonder where Marx ended up....

Logically speaking, not!Marx could quite possibly show up somewhere in the Dual Crown. "The nobles increasingly shove pollution into our cities and restrict our rights, while the Crown Princess runs off to play with rocks," etc. If he doesn't, though, and we dodge turning into the Union of Ymaryn Socialist Republics or w/e, we can definitely expect him and not!Mao to open up a can of popular uprising on our well-endowed southeasterner friend with a very nice chair and a largely theoretical empire.

Organic Chemistry (10/40-50?) [Science][Chemistry][Open]

10 + 14 = 24. Not a chance in hell?
[] [Science] Collaborate with extra funding (-1 temp SoL, boost Science research, Kielmyr gain significant information on Spectroscopy, significantly boost chemistry knowledge for both groups, small chance of metalight knowledge leaking)
It is by no means a sure thing, but this definitely pushes it into the realm of possibility.

Probably another 10 points, so we'll get 34/40-50? for organic chemistry. That does mean we'll have a chance of completing it next turn.
I'd be pretty surprised if a one time, unique boost that involves us learning from a nation with far more advanced chemistry was worth less than a single Support Scientific Research.

Hell, even the wording would suggest it does more:
Support Scientific Research - 1 PW: -1 temp SoL, boosts Science type research
[] [Science] Collaboration would be useful (Kielmyr gain information on Spectroscopy, boost chemistry knowledge for both groups, tiny chance of metalight knowledge leaking)
[] [Science] Collaborate with extra funding (-1 temp SoL, boost Science research, Kielmyr gain significant information on Spectroscopy, significantly boost chemistry knowledge for both groups, small chance of metalight knowledge leaking)

Like I said, by no means a sure thing, but certainly possible.

Good news everyone!

Due to increased science funding and collaboration between international academics, a naval officer from the Mapanca has been able to publish his treatise on the birds observed on islands off the coast of his home.

I am certain this will be in no way controversial and lead to no terrible ideas using his work as a cloak of legitimacy.
I feel like some Syffrin powers will be even more inclined to dismiss this than in OTL as it comes from a different religious and intellectual group.

Hold on a minute. We know that those Heavenly Army guys may have picked up some former SKF members and that the Feds could have developed their ideology into something more sustainable if they were further along in social tech.

*pause*

@Academia Nut What's the chance that Hong Xiuquan absorbs the powers of Marx to create.... Religious Marxism? *dun dun dun*

For those a little slow on the uptake or the hows and whys:
The novel and upsetting effect of evolutionary biology was to change the conception of nature. Nature was no longer a harmony; it was a scene of struggle. "Nature red in tooth an claw." Elimination of the weak was natural, and it might even be considered good insofar as it contributed to evolutionary progress. Such conceptions challenged traditional religious ideas about morality and virtue: indeed, the potential critique of Christian ethics posed a greater threat to religious values than the revision of the biblical account of creation. Darwin's theory asserted that there were no fixed species or perfected forms. Change was everlasting; and everything seemed relative to time, place, and enviroment. There were no highter notions of good and bad; a good organism was one that survived where others perished.; adaptation replaced virtue; outside of successful adaptation there was nothing "right."

The test was, in short, success; the "fit" were those who survived. Here Darwinism merged with the with the new realism and realpolitik.

Such at least were the implications if one generalized from science, carrying over scientific findings into human affairs, and the prestige of science was so great that this is precisely what many people wished to do. With the popularization of biological evolution, a school of social theorists known as Social Darwinists actively applied the ideas of the struggle for existence and survival of the fittest to human society. Their doctrines were put to various political and cultural uses, to show that some people were naturally superiour to others, such as whites and blacks, or Nordics and Latins, or Germans and Slavs (or vice versa), or non-Jews and Jews; or that the upper and middle classes, comfortable and contented, deserved those blessings because they had proved themselves "fitter" than the shiftless poor, or that big business in the nature of things had to take over the smaller concerns; or that some states as the British and German Empires, were bound to rise, or that war was morally a fine thing, proving the virility and survival value of those who fought. These ideas gave new meanings to national wars and to the claims for cultural or racial superiority, and were used to justify late 19th century imperialism.

Don't forget to mention the fact that we can actively manufacture ubermenschen with green metalight.

Or, at least, tallmenschen.
I don't know how, but I just know that someone, somewhere will find a way to claim that the effects of this magic light obviously prove his own "genetic superiority". People can be dumb like that.....

Honestly, it's going to be trivial to do this.

1) It's a fact that green meta-light has a lesser effect on lesser species
2) It's pretty much a given that metalight facilities available to the poor/undesirables will be significantly worse

Since both rich and poor have metalight facilities, and the poor benefit less from metalight, obviously they must be inferior.

Only if you read it that way.

Certain species are smart or very smart, but metalight have no literal effects.

Don't forget they're all nobles!

Beat me to it.

But it's worse, considering that we are not currently, nor are we likely to in the near future, admit that metalight is a thing, while we have a current batch of nobles who were grown up on metagreen reaching age at the moment.

Remember, it's a national secret, and it's in our best interests to keep it under wraps for as long as possible while we get super ahead in the tech.
