Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

Cerys is a strong teenage girl? I remember reading in the beginning that Cerys was chastising herself for not exercising when running away from Demon of Due.
Morgan just nods her head and waves you off. "You can stop now, don't need to push yourself, we're just trying them out." You nod as you slide out of the bars, not breathing hard but your muscles groaning in protest regardless. "Looks like you have more burst strength than endurance, though you are no slouch there either. You get a lot of exercise?" You nod again as you make your way to your feet, following Morgan as she makes her way to another machine. "You were pulling at my weight and I've been doing this for years.

I think this says otherwise.
Una is a little below average for her age, though.

Edit: By the way, I took out the vote on permanent Reinforcement for now. Controlling the strength is all good and well, but it would be far too much for regular use outside of battle.
I would rather opt for training to use the strength properly while fighting.

Alright, let me see... if this all goes through, we can take the last damage Spell, healing, better armour, Limitless, Levitate and the damage reduction on Ignition Aura from the pile of small things yet to do; the one that is separate from "train Spell/Ability".

I might be mistaken, but that leaves only the damage-spike on Reinforcement and Boosted Flight on this particular list, right?

Hmmm... I think one of the most important things to train is magic control. Training magic seems to come down to this a lot, so the better we are at it, the better we are period.

Maybe we should ask if there are specific control exercises we could do to help with that?

I doubt it, seeing that everyone does magic their own way.
Magic Control is basically to stretch your magic into areas you are only fleetingly acquainted with, playing around with what you can do and seeing what new things you can make of it as well as how easily you can keep these stable.

Come to think of it, what with the whole 'reputation influences magical girl powers' bit, does this mean that if that story spreads far enough then our survival ability might get stronger? Or does it mean that more magical girls in the future might gain that ability upon becoming an MG?

Kind of both?

The in-story reason as to why you grow stronger faster over time is people Believing that you are strong, and you believing that you are strong. So you are.
Crystal explicitly stated that the universe worked similarly to Gurren Lagann in how Determination > Everything

"I'm pulling a mishmash from a wide collection of sources. A I described in the Data Mine, magic is powered by belief and willpower in this setting. If you believe it's possible, then the only thing holding you back is the will to see it through.

Goddess Gold is the best example there. She has the unshakable belief that she can wipe out a planet in a single blow. A well as the raw willpower to see it happen. The numbers are there to simply give you an idea of how much faith she has in her abilities.

Magical Growth is theoretically limitless. Humanity, hell even the Fairies, have yet to see a logical cap ever be reached. There are magical beings out there so powerful they create entire universes all the time.

Determinators are the scariest sons of bitches in this setting.

Kamina would be so fucking OP in this setting the setting itself would eject him on principle."

So yes, it is entirely possible that it can enhance your save from death. (It already has)

Also yes, future MG's are more likely to be able to survive horrific injuries like you had. Though how this manifests is going to differ wildly and it's not a guaranteed thing.

I really wish we would get to see these things... I do not like having ??? in the character sheet, such as with Armoured Soul currently. We have no idea what it does or how we can find out what it does.

It is good to know we get upgrades, though.

By the way, we are also playing a Determinator. Which means bad things for the guys that are up against us later.

--[X] Use off-time, travel-time and time away from the animals to practice with Ignition Aura; it does protect you from damage... can you improve that protection?
Is it really alright to train the ability that set everything on fire inside transportation (and outside magical barrier)?

Well, I was just going with what I was asked to do. If it was me, we would not use Ignition Aura at all during these segments. Can take out travel-time, though.
However, we are capable of forming it properly... so Cerys should be capable of stopping it from setting anything on fire.

Will take it out for safety, though.

The problem with this is, while Cerys certainly can put the fires out immediately, but that thing was on fire for a brief moment. Ignition Aura is instant, human reflexes are not.
This can cause issues inside a car full of flammable material.

Also, she would stall out the car because she would have to not stop the combustion in the engine but stop it just outside of the combustion areas.
It gets complicated from there, just know that it isn't a good idea.

You can stall anything with an engine though, silver lining.

Maybe you should add a few verbs to apply for the new spell? Like disintegrate, decay, break, destroy, ruin, etc.

You should specify to not use both at the same time. :p

Last time I tried specifying, Rukia told me I would just get Alpha and Omega... they do read what we are discussing, so they know what we want. If Cerys makes a spell and what we want is feasible, we probably will get it.

Additionally, I doubt that Cerys will do that without being explicitely prompted to.

Well yes, A&O is basically a cloud of magic (centered around us) that disintegrate things. But we're aiming to create a projectile, not an aura/cloud.

Ugh... sometimes I hate those details, really. I love them, too.

I am not adding decay or ruin, though; those are Affinities and might do something bad.
How about corroding? That should fit Disintegrate or Shred pretty well.

My ideal spell would be something like Halt, but instead of freezing every movements, it breaks the bonds of the target.

Maybe we could call it Decay or Break?

Which bonds? I do not really get what you mean.
Do you mean to interrupt Bind/Lockdown/Total Lockdown? Dispell?

Additionally, I would rather not give it a name before we have it.

First, I think he means Atomic Bonds.

Second, please don't name things beforehand.
I am fine with you suggesting names, but there is a theme to your character that you haven't discovered fully yet, which is why I name things what I do. (Usually)

Alright then, let us play the guessing game.

What do we have?

Plasma Sphere

[Aff. Beginning]

Thermal Spear
[Aff. Beginning]

Push
[Aff. N/A for some reason]

Halt
[Aff. End]

Ignition Aura
-The fires of creation

Armoured Soul
--I reject my limits.

Thermal Control

Alpha and Omega
I am the end of all things.
We know we basically flip entropy the bird and do what we want. Our Affinities are Beginning and End, the former being connected to Thermal Control (due to both spells derived from it having the Affinity). Halt could even fit the fact that (if I remember correctly) during the heat death of the universe, all movement ceases.
Armoured Soul probably comes from us being a Knight while Alpha and Omega... is different. Connected to our End-Affinity, I remember people stating that this term is usually associated with god.

We are not a god; however, we are a Knight. Crusaders would come to mind in that regard.
Rukia said we have not yet figured it out completely... and we are Magical Girls of Gaia.

So my best guess right now would be that we are basically agents of god (Gaia), empowered to the point where only god (Gaia) herself will be our equal at the end of our journey.
In one word... what would that make? Saviour?

A hint: Did you ever wonder why an ability named Alpha and Omega, The beginning and The End, can only end things?

Oh great... here we are again, with cryptic hints I can not work with.
I will think about it... but my first response would be balancing reasons; if it could create as well, we would be far more broken than we already will be :V

That aside, Cerys' flavour text on the Ability calls her the "Knight of the End".
Hm.
Beginning to... bring forth destruction?
Beginning of the End?

Hm...
We create means to destroy... is what we do and have done ever since we started. All our more important things are connected to End in some way, even Ignition Aura for setting everything on fire. Even Thermal Control for either setting fire to consume or ending all movement by taking away all heat.

Someone take up my musings please... or maybe I do it later.

The void before anything existed/after everything has ceased to exist? I.e. Before the Beginning and after the End? And the theme might have something to do with how the world was born and will die from the same thing, lots of heat?

It begins with nothing, then everything was born, then everything died, and it ends with nothing.

Or something like that. I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm confusing myself.

Edit: It's the ci~ircle of life! And it's rules us a~all!
Edit2: Well, I have a hunch that it's some kind of circle, even if that circle isn't life.
Edit3: Rebirth? The Phoenix that's born from the ashes of it's own death? I'm suddenly getting dragon's dogma flashbacks.

That aside, maybe Cerys' flavour text on the Ability calls her the "Knight of the End".
Plate Armor calls her the 'Knight of Infinity'.

It doesn't take all that long, perhaps five minute or so before you start feeling energy start trickling back in, energy that doesn't come from you. Your own energy was replenishing normally, the bubble wasn't taking any more or leaking any, still letting that feeling of safety permeate the air around you. You puzzle over this for a while, but don't manage to figure anything out. It just seems to come from nowhere. The energy isn't entering your limbs or coming from the air or ground, and it's not coming from you. It's just kind of.. appearing inside you.

A hint: Did you ever wonder why an ability named Alpha and Omega, The Beginning and The End, can only end things?

It is your Super Ability for a reason.
well, it also gives us more magic energy to play with, most likely from the destroyed area.

Nice update.
It's chilling to see how cold and professional Cerys is when talking about her near death with Karen.
Is it that she has no self preservation besides the need to protect Una or i she just used to that kind of danger?

[X] Naron

On thing to consider is if Cerys should replace basic education on the mornings with more training.
Ether this week but possibly until she feels she is strong enough again.
OC It plays on the child soldier themes she has.
IC it could be Cerys trying to quickly get better, motivated by her near death.

Regarding Alpha and Omega I'll repeat, awesome ability that is the opposite of what our build wants.
We want overwhelming Alfa strikes, not trying to drag the fight out to 7+ turns (when it begins to outpace our normal damage).
Unless it has some additional upgrade or Level 10 unlock that does a major change, it's simply not that good.

Thank goodness the vote was not yet called... let me take out the part about Ignition Aura very quickly.
I just realised that if this particular roll goes bad, Cerys might incapacitate herself and render the more important part with Regeneration moot.

Plus, it is connected directly to Cerys' soul... and I do not want to mess around with that before we had another level up on Magic Control.

We already have alpha-strikes, though. Alpha and Omega shines when something comes that takes all of our other damage as if it was nothing. It is made to destroy tanks.
Plus, the growth might increase later on... and even if not, it would still start out at ~2.4mil damage on level 50, doubling that number each turn.

All that said, I really can not work with this kind of hint.
@Sinarblood, any ideas?
