You nod at your sword, ignoring Daiyu's exasperated sigh from behind you and kneel down to your sister. "Why don't you go with Daiyu and settle down at our new place? We'll be back later." You ruffle her hair as she pouts at you and step back, glancing over at the awkward group of girls that had been tagging along for the past few days. "The same offer is open to you." You aren't particularly worried about them trying anything, they're so weak that Una can probably take them all on by herself.
You turn back to your sword and grab her arm, lifting the two of you off the ground with some effort and heading....
South, for now.
/LINEBREAK\
It doesn't take particularly long before you pass from the mostly not on fire lands of your latest
benefactor and enter the warzone. It's quite obvious, seeing that what feels like every gun in a two mile radius turns on the two of you.
Sabina teleports downwards and a sea of fire rushes forwards after her, the intense heat slagging the shots aimed at you as it pushes down into the city. You decide that every person you can sense in front of you is an enemy and let your fire fall into the streets, exerting an effort to keep the space around Sabina clear, it would hardly be fair to steal
all of her kills after she's been so good lately.
It hardly takes three minutes to clear the mile around you and most of that was letting Sabina finish off her stragglers, leaving you with a profound feeling of disappointment.
These guys aren't like the Clocktower. You set down on a roof and wait for Sabina to make her way back to you, lifting her up with you as she suddenly teleports into your arms.
Or the Counter Force, at least they can put up some fight. This is hardly more effort than walking.
You move forwards until you are over the busiest section of ruined city and repeat, clearing it with barely any effort.
I'm spending more time making sure not to steal kills than actually fighting. You sigh as you wait for Sabina to finish and move on.
/LINEBREAK\
If asked about it, you could honestly say that you don't really remember the last hour or so. It was so...
mindless. Nothing these rebels had was even remotely a threat to you and as you tore further and further into their battle lines you were just left with a feeling of boredom. Sabina had stopped bothering half an hour ago, just draping herself over your back and looking over your shoulder, watching without really paying any attention.
You let out a sigh, feeling the camp underneath you rapidly melt to slag, the river of molten bullets that never came near you harmlessly splashing against the ground. "This was a complete waste of time." Sabina lets out an agreeing noise, but doesn't bother moving from her place on your back. You float a little higher, absently snuffing out the conflagration below as you look around. The trail of destruction behind you was blindingly obvious for anyone to follow but
nothing.
You'd run into a few shitty tanks that were completely helpless against your magic, the few anti-air emplacements were just as useless, the contents of the shells exploding or melting well before reaching you. Someone had fired a missile early on, but it had just exploded the moment it touched the edge of your fire. You hadn't felt it melt, but apparently they were perfectly happy to just explode against the edge of your heated range. Another minute of waiting doesn't bring anything, nor does another after.
There has to be something. You dredge up as much magic as you can, the heady feeling building under your skin as you stoke it higher. The arms loosely gripping you tighten as you take a deep breath and
let it go. Your magic blasts through the sky like a hurricane, announcing your presence wide and far as you catch your breath, feeling carefully for any response.
You almost give up hope before, a few minutes later, you feel something reverberate. An ache settles deep in your bones as the land beneath you heaves and something draws your eyes to the north, to a small range of hills, the peaks oddly spiky as they jut towards the sky. The earth shakes again and the hills move, an deep grinding noise overpowering everything else as they lift to the sky, a beast of monstrous proportions slowly rising from the earth in response to your challange.
Slowly, it turns to face you, a roar that shakes your bones tears forth from it's mouth as earth runs off of it's back.
You can feel Sabina still on your back, a smile pulling at her face as she leans further against you. "This one is
Mine!" Her weight vanishes from your back as she appears in front of you and you blast forwards without thinking, your top speed quickly letting you pass her sporadic teleportation.
"
As if I would let you!" The beast hunches as you approach, moving far more quickly than anything of that size should, the ache in your bones intensifying into a throbbing as it watches you approach with massive eyes.
