which of these two options is which?"I don't care." Familiar blue eyes flick upwards from where they are glued to the floor, framed by a face a little older and... rougher than what matched your memories. She tries to murmur something in response, but you just hold her tighter, dropping your chin atop her head and finding that you don't need to bend quite as far as you expected. "What matters is that you are here, by my side." The constant pressure pressing in on you from reality, demanding that you stop existing is even less consequential. "And it's going to stay that way, no matter what."
She shakes silently against you, but the strength of her grip only grows stronger and you feel something settle into place. This is how things should be. You glance around, not having dropped your guard even as you comforted her, silently watching the sea of flames crawl across the landscape. A handful of the creatures infesting the area skulk in the ruins of the buildings furthest from the two of you, but you haven't forgotten how willing they were to rush over the corpses of their allies when they thought you weak.
You were perfectly willing to stand vigil over her for as long as needed, but staying out in the open here didn't seem all that safe, especially when you could feel the air shuddering every so often as some fight far of in the distance shook the world. Nudging her a little, she gathers herself much faster than you remember- but well, it wasn't really what you remembered, was it? Pointless. You shake off the thought and sigh, sending a glare at a distant pack of the red creatures and sending them scattering back out of sight. "This would be much easier if I had the others, Daiyu at least."
She nods for a moment before freezing, a small flush of red creeping down the back of her neck as she turns away from you and coughs several times. "Y-yes, right I... don't know if they are really...?" Your lips purse at the implication, that part of you wanting to scoff at the absurdity of the idea, while the rest of you tries not to think about what it means. Later. "I don't think I can do it?" her voice is quiet, but your big sister instincts tell you there is something she isn't saying. "Sorry-" she rushes before pausing, and you catch the edge of a smile in her voice. "big sister."
You don't like it when she lies to you, even if it's more of a white lie, but... you can guess what goes unsaid. I don't want to go away either.
"Right." You let go of her and rest a hand on her shoulder, being careful to avoid pinching the fabric of her dress between the metal of your gauntlet. "Then I'll just have to do it all myself." You cast a look towards the direction the frequent booming and flashes of multi-coloured light is coming from, obviously some kind of massive fight, but she'd said that the Counter-Force -symbol is the same?- army base was in that direction. Your... memories of dealing with them probably were a little biased, all things considered, but they at least had an army you could use as an ablative layer.
On the other hand... You tighten your grip on her for a second, thinking about that demand constantly weighing down on you, commanding you to no longer be here. This place... everything she had told you made you want to pull her closer, the endless war and eternal enemy? She would never be safe here, even if you ground the universe to dust beneath your feet, there were powers far beyond even that. Your memories, the place you call home and the friends you had -that she made you- around you?
That was a place where you could keep her safe, provide her happiness an be the big sister you wanted to be. A quiet village at the base of the mountains, the softly burbling stream trickling as you pulled the tray from the oven, catching the scent of freshly cooked bread and called for-
What did it matter what reality thought of your dreams?
I don't care.
What matters is that she is here, by my side.
And it's going to stay that way, no matter what.

As soon as I know which option is which.
It seems that I might have made the vote choices too oblique. As soon as I know which option is which.
As best I can tell the choices are "stay here", wherever "here" is, vs "take her away with you", whoever "her" is. I know my personal preference, but I don't know which of those corresponds to which vote option.
