Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Hmmm... Any speculation on what Silently has planned now that the mutation has been revealed?

Or are there other aspects of the mutation that we haven't seen yet?

I plan to reveal her magic in two chapters. Maybe 3 if I put in a Laura interlude.

There are no other aspects of Missy's mutation whatsoever. It is purely a hair color change.

Aw, I was hoping for elf ears.

Anyway! Quests! I think we ought to table hunting redneck cultists for a week or two, OTOH our window for halfway decent relations with the Protectorate (as opposed to the PRT or Alexandria and Legend) is going to be closing rapidly, maybe even by the end of the week. Might be best to make hay while the sun shines. Final Frontier is a do-anytime thing really, Bone of the Father is intriguing and IC-wise we ought to give Daddy's Little Girl honest consideration.

I kinda like the idea of doing Law and Order as a social instead of a quest. We don't have to be right in the heart of the insanity for once, it'd be kinda refreshing.

So, my idea of a to-do list:

1. Law & Order as a main quest. You don't drop that sort of hint and expect me not to go for it. This could be big.

2. Daddy's Little Girl,. it's is while since we had some good angst.

3. Hang with Kayleigh and Laura. Let's get them magic.

4. Train WITH Kayleigh and Laura, if one or both of them go for magic. Figuring out what we can do and how not to trip over each other in a fight is super important.

Elf ears? Given the comments on the coloration I'm more surprised we didn't get cat ears!

That said, Missy now looks suitably anime for a Nanoha mage/magical girl! I mean, she's got three toned hair, and at least two of the colours are totally impossible in nature!

When was the last time we had an update on Danny?
It was a LONG WHILE ago. Arc 9, maybe? *checks* Yep, 9.6.

I plan on a bonus social with Kayleigh and Laura since you've already voted to build K's Storage Device. After that, it'll take long enough that training won't happen until next week at the earliest.

I wanted to leave the choice to give her cat ears to you guys. It WOULD improve her hearing...

I suggest doing Law & Order, as well as socializing both Kay and Laura never mind the QM just shot that down.

I say Law & Order and hunting down Neo Nazis along with Laura.

I'm also gonna call it right now: the Fallen are gonna try to recruit Danny. It just seems so in line with this quest's sadism.
EDIT:

If there's any chance to retcon Missy's hair into cat ears, please do.

"Abnormal. Linker Core rank C. Unchanged from previous scan. No detected mana structure changes consistent with template installation."

You look over at Lacey and then back to your Device. "How is that possible?"

"Template installation failure occurred rarely in first decade of Immortal Assimilation Engine use. Complication with gene duplication process. Corrected. No further instances.

"Infinite Enhancement template possesses Rare Skill. Installation failed. Transcendent Gadgeteer template possesses no Rare Skill. Installation success. Theory. Mistress's Flare Mana Conversion Affinity Rare Skill interfered with gene duplication. Boost Device created but contained no template."

You think back to how much effort Frost Beam needed the one time you used it. That your mana affinity would work against you with other elemental spells is reasonable, so is it so hard to believe that it would fight against other such talents? "How did Galea handle that problem?"

"Immortal Assimilation Engine not designed to use natural Linker Core as energy source. Designed to pull energy from mana supply infrastructure. Method Mistress uses emergency protocol."
I'm very unsure about the meaning of this part of the chapter, can someone who understands this explain what's going on here?

Her hair's red, white and black. Pretty sure all of those exist?
I'm pretty sure that bright red isn't really natural...

To be fair I was assuming that we were dealing with anime red hair rather than regular old red hair, and the sort of bright white hair that only shows up in the same place.

Never mind the intermixing of colours that generally doesn't show up in humans outside of expensive hair styling and dyeing :D.

Might need @Silently Watches to weigh in here regarding the degree of Red we are dealing with and what the reference they are using for the new hairstyle is.

Visiting Danny would be a good idea, it has been a while.
Though, I too suggest Law & Order as a social event and Bone of Father as the second main quest.

From what I can tell, Immortal Assimilation Engine was designed to use a mama based infrastructure's resources to create Templates, sort of like how a regular tv in our world uses electricity to do its thing. Taylor possesses a Rare Skill in her own right and already has a Template. Between the three of those facts, attempting to create a non-Calamity Witch Template using Taylor as a mana source possesses a chance of failing, which just result in a regular Device mage.

We might want to have Tim make something IAE can draw power from in the future, or just make multiple Devices of an appropriate type so they can be used for parts.

I think that we do not need to both going to see Danny. He is better off not being a part of this and it would be painful for Taylor to see him and still not be able to do anything to help him. Just continue moving on with her life would be the best option as far as that goes.

As far as what we should do, I think that going with the Burn the Sinners quest and the Final Frontier quest would both be interesting and could have some good long term results. Also, we would still then participate in Law and Order as a social event and find out what is going on with it.

It's a one point buildslot, if we can't drum up enough support for it in the next Tim vote we are insufficiently anime for this quest.

Specifically IE and EK, as they have rare skills. Making a CW is fine, Flare for Flare, and TG is also fine since it doesn't have any rare skills at all.

Law and Order is... yeah, that's happening. What is interesting though is that Danny is a main quest; I get the feeling that the idea someone put forward, where he won't regain his memories, but it'll be possible for him to make new memories will come up from this. It won't be a happy questline for either of them, but are we really going to stop Taylor getting her dad back, even if it'll be a massive readjustment for them both?

That said, more gangs getting into the city is bad, and doing stuff with the remains of the Triumvirate is cool... Final Frontier doesn't really matter much when we do it though.

Burn the Sinners I want to start after we get all of our new mages in line, not before. The first part probably won't involve combat anyway, but I'd still like to be fully prepared. So let's leave that alone for one week? Still need to start it soon to get it done though.

Kayleigh's getting her device now, and there's a bonus social on that, but what about going on patrol with Laura as part of recruiting her as a social event?
I kind of want to do something with Missy as the second social, because Missy. Part one of her big thing is done, and this upheaval is probably for the better... but we should still definitely be there during it rather than wandering off just after the linker core's growing. Maybe the confrontation with Miss Militia happens for her and we take her on another trip to an alternate earth as a cooldown thing?
I'm clearly rationalising. I just want more Missy.

Specifically IE has a Rare Skill and Taylor's Rare Skill may have caused a problem in copying it over. TE didn't have a Rare Skill that needed to be implanted, which is how Tim is unaffected by it.

We might want to have Tim make something IAE can draw power from in the future, or just make multiple Devices of an appropriate type so they can be used for parts.
So my first reading was wrong, but I'll explain it anyway:
My first thought was "IAE was designed to use your emergency method (IE Canisters)" but it seems that was backwards, and instead it's saying "Pulling mana directly from you is the emergency method"

Either way, hooking up to a Mana Generator might fix the issue, but unless we separate IAE and Perfect Storm (BAD BAD BAD IDEA) it's going to be like sticking our fingers in a nuclear reactor instead of being squeezed dry like a sponge in a machine press.

I have Absolute-Zero Kelvin interest in doing Daddy's Little Girl, personally. We ditched the Privateers, Daddy's functionally dead and a new person now, move on.

Bone of the Father seems like one of those things we don't want to let fester lest it become a mandatory new arc cleaning it up >_> so not a bad use of the slot if nothing else is pressing immensely.

I'd like to do Burn the Sinners, /because/ it sounds like just getting the info from the Triumvirate and starting plans, and major plot quests like this have a tendency to be multi-part and capable of being unfinished if we stall too much. Our track record suggests starting it early (Silently is fully aware we desire to take as many of our Magical Girl Squad along as we can, so hopefully we'll get some clear enough warnings on how to juggle that timeline. )

Law and Order, definitely a good idea to do yellow events when we can manage, and keeps a pulse on whats happening in the city. Especially if its something like "as we stand here speech-ifying, our Mage Squads are taking out the known gang hideouts on this jumbotron here." and we need to extract Laura in a hurry. But hey, it can go in a social slot!! So put it in a social one.

For the last social.... personally I'd like to do the Missy/Kayleigh/Laura japan trip now, even if schools already started :( maybe the weekends good enough... especially if she wants to be out of town for a bit. Better to patch up the failed vacation sooner than later, and fits with introducing them to new-hair MissyMage and anime-binged KayleighMage to really push Laura over the line.

Only if thats totally vetoed (because theres another event planned with them) would I want to do some other social, like putting new mages through their paces..... but wait, when did we vote for Kayleigh to have a STORAGE device for certain ????? I thought there was still talk on the merits of Armed device for its better Barrier ? (Even if we have Tim gadgeteer up some sort of AI in a cellphone to help her coordinate with more advanced users on the team).

I'm sorry but I can't find what the yellow task entries mean in post 1 (at a quick look, I didn't expand all spoilers). What's the significance of the color change, please?

Thanks!

If I remember correctly, yellow events are time-sensitive and will disappear if not taken this vote.
Yep, that's how they've worked every other time they've shown up. Can't go to a press conference that's over and such.

Vote closed. Uh, looks like Plan More Mages wins.
[X] Plan More Mages
-[X] Experiment further with LCM and try to see how mutations can be managed or directed (2 slots)
-[X] Brew Linker Core mutagenic serum for Missy (1 slot, 1 tech point)
-[X] Storage Device for Kayleigh, bracelet (1 slot)
-[X] Pop Grey Boy's bubbles (2 slots)

The discussion on the merits of an Armed Device, minor as they are, started after the vote was in progress. She'll have a chance to play around with magic sooner and start accumulating XP after her mini-social, but we'll need to build some Guns for her to use for her Gunslinger build before she's properly combat-capable. Probably a flight harness of some sort too, so she isn't ground-bound unlike everyone else.

It also makes sense, for Kayleigh, as our 'token normal' to have a Device that isn't strictly designed for combat; an Armed Device is, by definition, a weapon. I think it fits her better, the lack of Knight's Armor not mattering that much. Taylor still tanked a RPG to the face with just a Barrier Jacket, unless I've got my timeline wrong.

I am in favour of Law and Order (as a social thing), Burn the Sinners and Final Frontier. I'm not sure what the last social vote should be.
